Mr. President . . . yet Another Czar?

So, one year after the so called beginning of the collapse of the economy, that was really already officially in recession the year before, our President announced that he wants more banking regulation. Our government in control of money management is very much akin to the fox guarding the hen house. But then if President Obama can manage legislation to regulate our health and our money, what will he have left to conquer in the remaining three years of his term? I thought George W. Bush was a control freak, but he doesn't hold a candle to our current President. I had originally typed "pales in comparison" but you know, if we aren't approving of the current administration, it is somehow now, interpreted to be racist . . . At least when G.W. started gaining control, there had been an actual crisis, created or not, there was a crisis that actually involved human life. Now, here it's only money, over and over and over again. It's still only money. He talks about health care and people not getting the best, but in reality, no one is turned away from an emergency room. And I just can't help but laugh at all the Medicare recipients that are against "socialized medicine." If he really wants to regulate something that will address both health care and waste, he needs to go after the insurance companies. They control the health care and they are now in the banking business. I just can't help but wonder just how much the Insurance Banking business affected our economic collapse. Instead of more invasive government over we the people, deal with the insurance companies. That's enough bureaucracy and red tape to keep insurance and Congress busy and off our backs for years to come. As for the President managing the banking industry . . . Cash for clunkers ran out of money, how many months and weeks short of the original plan? and oh, it had to be refinanced as well. Mr. President, I think you need to just stick to campaigning and eloquent speaking.

Over the Top and Gone Way Too Far!

The South African runner, Caster Semenya, has really been treated horribly by the media. She's the woman that beat all records in the 800m something. Anyway, there was a question regarding her gender and possibly performance enhancement drugs. Well, she's cleared on the drug deal and "media word" is, she's outwardly a female, but has internal male organs. Since the rumored claim states internal, obviously this is not something she is trying to hide, but rather was hidden from her. I realize I'm old fashioned in my view, but I've always considered the best gender test to simply be a mirror when getting out of the shower. As a general rule of thumb, what you see is what you are. Oh, I know, according to TV talk shows, there are "women in men's bodies" and vice versa. But this is an 18 year old young woman that has all external evidence of being a female. I read that her voice was rather deep, so is mine. I read that her muscles are very toned. I wish mine were, and I've seen some females that are. Of course her speed is what really raised the question of gender. She is fast! I looked at her picture at the time of the race and I saw her picture on the front of the magazine and IMHO, she looks like an athlete. I've seen a number of female athletes that do not look terribly feminine at the time of their competition, and look rather chiseled and firm even in dresses. She was quite attractive on the magazine cover, though. The IAAF has not confirmed what the media has claimed, which is really the point of my blog. If what the media is claiming is true, which is unconfirmed, she is still a female that was not using performance enhancing drugs. She has the higher testosterone level in her body, naturally. Good for her! Some women with high testosterone can't beat world records, they just have a mustache. I do think this is the tackiest of all tacky and a horrible invasion of her privacy. She shouldn't have to read, even a rumored account about herself, and if it is true, all the worse that this has been made public, the way it has. She is outwardly female and if she either lacks ovaries or has both ovaries and testicles, she certainly shouldn't have to read it on the internet. If it is true, she has a lot to deal with. If she's a woman without ovaries, let her have her race, she can't have children, and now with this breaking "news" she can't have her life back, either. Her life will never be the same, whether this is fact or fiction. I don't know how anyone could do this to an 18 year old girl that had just won the race of a lifetime.
I used to think journalism was a worthy career, but it seems it's been inundated with busy bodies, gossips, and meddlers. This story is not news, it's unconfirmed.

The Big Speech

Our President is really determined to "give" us health care. He feels as strongly about our health care as the last President felt about war. And health care and war just cost so much! I'm even thinking war contributes to the rising costs of health care. So, knowing our President is a persuasive and gifted orator, will he get the votes needed to give us what most of us already have and don't want? He really is an eloquent speaker, but the campaigning time is over. Now he has to lead and deliver. It's so hard to do that when someone doesn't want to actually pin themselves down with a potentially unpopular stand. As I've watched this Presidency, he just really doesn't strike me as a leader, as much as he's a speaker and a campaigner. I don't think he was expecting his popularity to be changing so rapidly. Well, perhaps he'll pull yet another rabbit out of his hat and win the people, but I'm thinking the tide has turned . . . already.

KUDOS to Laura Bush

I was truly impressed today by the former first lady. But then, she's had years of experience and practice in being a tactful diplomat. I am not of a conservative leaning, but I truly had to applaud and acknowledge her statement, which basically stated, "The office of the President is to be respected." I know I heard several times, through the Bush administration, the quoting of Romans 13:1, 2. Well, G~D's Word stands forever, so therefore, it still applies, and I truly applaud Laura Bush for bringing that fact to our attention. Presidents have been addressing the young people of this nation for years. This is hardly the first administration with an agenda or an outreach to the youth.

The President's Speech to Young People

I'm sure most Americans have gotten something in their Inbox today about the upcoming speech the President is planning to have simulcast through public schools. Of course, the e-mails contain inflammatory information to persuade the reader against the "other party." Those for the speech are all up in arms about the closed minded intolerant conservative ultra right wing, and the ultra right wing is sure President Obama wants kindergartners to become communists, so they recommend keeping the children home from school that day. Could be we are finally seeing what happens to a country that teaches blind loyalty to it's leaders. President Obama is certainly not the first president to address the young people or attempt to influence them, and whether we like it or not, he is the president. I remember through the last administration, being verbally smacked by the ultra conservatives with Romans 13:1, 2. Still stands today, folks. I've got an idea that might just be too moderate to be American. Why don't we have all the social liberals that want to teach our children to share and give to everyone equally, teach it by example, rather than words. Reality check here. Liberal democratic representatives do not live lower than the big business conservative representatives, now do they ? . . . And for all the ultra conservatives that want to keep their kids home from school that day. What are you going to teach them? Book burning? Why don't parents take back the responsibility of teaching their children. I attended both liberal college and ultra conservative religious college and I don't believe what I heard either place. All closed minded extremists and ultras of every leaning have one thing in common. They have all been brainwashed and programmed and believe everyone else has been too. Some of us still prefer to actually talk to G~D and think for ourselves, and teach our children to do the same. Then you don't have to worry so much about who tries to influence them, if they've learned the truth.

Come on Now Pfizer

This is going to sound just a little bit smug, on my part, and even though I am not directly involved, I felt just a bit of self-righteous glee over the headline that Pfizer will be paying over $2B in fines and whatever . . . As I read the article, the company obviously promises to implement new policy and procedure. Which I think now translates to: new ways around this old rule, and more persuasive lobbyists! Every big company is always sorry and always takes responsibility when they get caught, right? Seems they were actually promoting a few meds making claims that had not been FDA approved for the claims, and although the term kick back wasn't used, there was plenty of rewarding those in positions to write prescriptions. The four medications in question had been FDA approved for something, but when some of the "side effects" produced positive results in some other physical issue, Pfizer indicated the claims began to "take on a life of their own." The court says otherwise. Clearly these big corporations know the rules, and you'd think with the product that's being made, they would want a certain level of trust from the consumer. So why didn't they just do it right? And I just can't help but wonder. If Pfizer has over 2 billion to toss around over carelessness, why not reduce the price of prescriptions? That might do wonders on the cost of health care, without a big bill to reform it.

Operation Iraqi Freedom

I've made no bones about how I feel about the war in Iraq. Clearly, it had nothing to do with 9/11 and now nearly 8 years after 9/11 we've spent billions upon billions in Iraq, lost more lives than were lost on 9/11, and still no one knows where Osama bin Laden even is, or if he's dead or alive . . . or if he really even did it!
I realize we have made a puppet government in Iraq and called it freedom, but an article I read at CNN just turned my stomach.
The headline was about a woman that is on death row, fearing the death penalty. Oh, I know, here in compassionate America, the majority still believe in the death penalty, but a word in the caption really caused me great angst. This woman is on death row for accessory to murder, which indicates she is not the murderer, but the person that she was supposedly the accessory to, is still free and apparently has moved on in life. So, for those that still embrace capital punishment as part of a civilized nation, consider the fact that a murderer is walking loose, and the government knows it, both Iraq's government and America's government.

Death Panels . . . Really?

I've been thinking and griping about this health care reform bill. In some ways, I don't really see it so differently from Medicare and Medicaid. After all, both of those systems are socialized medicine and that seems to be reaching a number of people that wouldn't, otherwise; have health care. What seems to be upsetting everyone is the "counseling for end of life care" clause. I've thought about the phrase that has been coined: Death Panels and frankly I think, this is America, of course our government is going to eventually decide who lives and when we die. But meanwhile, I've thought of the perfect way to approach this situation. First, let's get the people that may be facing the end of life counseling session, right with G~D so they don't have to be afraid to die. Then when we as a nation are right with G~D, we can trust HIM in life and death, rather than other humans. Maybe the fact that somewhere deep in our souls we know our faith is in humanity, rather than G~D, which is good reason to be afraid to die. We could even opt out of the socialized medicine, if we choose to stand on faith and pay the 2.5% penalty, which is a very small price to pay to take a stand for our faith. As for the Death Panel. I think one simple question would help me, if down the road; I chose to trust TPTB rather than G~D. If someone looked at me and informed me that I had exceeded what I paid in, after 13 SS checks, and I had obviously already been on the dole for 5 years, and asked this, I think it would be simple. So, Mrs. Beisinger, your grandchildren have been financing your lifestyle for the last 5 years minus your 13 months you paid in. How much more of your grandchildren's wages would you like devoted to your lifestyle and fear?

H1N1 Vaccines

Maybe I'm becoming too cynical, but this headline just really caught my attention, and then when I got to read some of the comments and questions regarding the apparent decisions of Health and Human Services, I just really wanted to go on a tangent. But I thought better of that. No sense taking one comment out of hundreds and bantering about that endlessly. The world already has one Glenn Beck, and he's more than enough! Back to the H1N1, or swine flu vaccine. With all the animal rights groups, we no longer test pharmaceuticals on animals, no, this is being tested on children!!! And parents are signing the kids up for it. They trust the "scientific authorities." Well, I've noticed every generation since the advent of vaccines has developed some pretty serious auto immune and chronic illnesses. Of course the "scientific authorities" say there is no correlation to increased percentage, but I don't bow down in faith to the medical community and authority of scientific research. Then in the comments portion beneath the article, some person wrote in concerned that children and pregnant women would receive vaccinations before their 92 year old mother. I have the perfect idea. Since the American tradition has now become to take care of the old ones ahead of the children, since America's older generations have never had a chance in life . . . let's give all the adults who think they should be first, the chance to test these vaccines to see if they are safe for the children! Besides being greedy and materialistic, perhaps the problem with America, is our lack of concern for the children.

What No COLA?

In the midst of soaring unemployment statistics, home foreclosures, vehicle repossessions, middle income children having to brown bag it to school, and plummeting deflation, just why should there be an increased Cost of Living Allowance for Social Security recipients? I mean really? Our country has maxed out with the concept of being paid to not produce, as it is. Now there is a big brouhaha brewing over no raise for those that have "earned it" by staying alive another year. Why don't we simply admit that for the most part, a large percentage of Americans do define the Constitutional right in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; as being paid to do nothing and produce nothing! Aren't raises usually performance based? It would appear we now have that a large percentage of Americans that believe they are doing such a great job at collecting for non-productivity, they deserve a raise! I read an article the other day that gave the figure that 50 million people in America are collecting Social Security or Disability. Clearly the recession cannot be nearing an end, if the percentage of the population with the most expendable financial resources do not get a raise.

Real Insight . . .

The Cash for Clunkers program is coming to an end, Monday. It's been so wildly popular that it is to be discontinued early for fear of lack of funding. Now the claim on this Cash for Clunkers deal is this. All dealers will be reimbursed once they "get the proper paperwork," one plant in Alabama called back 1,000 laid off workers, and GM and Chrysler, who couldn't keep their own business running have already offered advances to the dealerships that have not received the promised funding so far. To my best calculations, only about 15% of the first billion has been sent to the dealerships, the rest of the applications were either rejected or not yet processed, but according to White House sources, they will be. This Cash for Clunkers deal was supposed to be offered from July to November, but after the first week had to be subsidized by 200%. I've shared my thoughts about possible repercussions of this "offer" but last night I thought of something else. What if the proposed health care reform has the same results, once it's passed and signed? What if the funds run out before the sick people are well? From everything I've read about Massachusetts coverage, the wait for doctors is much longer than it was before Governor Mitt Romney signed it into law. And since the wait for doctors is longer, more people go to the ER, which where the costs are the most astronomical. According to what I've read, President Obama is merely trying to expand nationally what Governor Romney instituted in Massachusetts, and it's not working there. The doctor's schedules are too full and the funds are exhausted. If this health care reform is as well planned as the Cash for Clunkers program, we are looking at a very small window of opportunity for first come first serve!

So Now What Gives?

I read that Congress has indeed allotted $2Billion more for the "Cash for Clunkers" deal, but I also read there has been a major glitch, and I'm thinking that so-called glitch is actually rather strategic. It seems only 2% of the "Cash for Clunkers" vouchers have been redeemed by the government, meaning 98% of the "Cash for Clunkers" deals have left the car dealerships in two binds. One, they aren't getting their money that has already been credited to the deal, and two, now they are stuck with vehicles that cannot be resold, but must be destroyed. Kind of makes me wonder if this is how several more dealerships will be closed. Not only has our government managed once again, to not keep up with it's word, it's given the go ahead to continue the "deals" and it's rejecting many of the dealership applications for small errors in completing the forms. Now, isn't that a surprise? I'm really beginning to wonder why any small or privately owned business even keeps trying. Perhaps these smaller or privately owned businesses stay simply because they can't afford to go overseas or outsource. It can't possibly still be, "in pursuit of the American dream." This situation kind of reminds me of when Pharaoh just kept demanding more product, but provided less to work with.

To Eunice Kennedy Shriver

I couldn't help but realize a correlation in the passing of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, an obviously staunch life-long democrat and the very vocal and athletic female republican, Sarah Palin. The entire Kennedy family was noted for many things, but their athletic ability and interest was in the forefront almost as much as their politics. It was Eunice Kennedy Shriver that founded the Special Olympics. As I read the information surrounding her death, it was stated many times that the Special Olympics began in her backyard. Well, I'm sure being a Kennedy in the early 60's helped that noteworthy cause and endeavor, but she did it, none the less and she gave many children an opportunity to compete and shine that wouldn't have otherwise even been included in anything. Eunice Kennedy Shriver was an outspoken woman on many topics, just as Sarah Palin is, and I couldn't help but realize, Sarah Palin's special needs son, born into an outdoorsy athletic family will someday be able to compete in athletic events, thanks to the democrat, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
I don't agree with either woman's extreme and for the most part opposing politics, but I can't help but notice, they certainly could have come to terms on this topic.

Assessing Priorities

In the past several days, I've had to address and assess priorities, and I simply couldn't be online, but I'm back . . .
I've decided both sides of the political aisle actually meet behind the scenes in darkness. We the people won't actually see it, but there is a "tossing" back and forth for effect which amounts to little more than hateful, hypnotic mantra for their faithful followers. It's clear that this health care reform is ultimately going to pass in some way, it's really only a matter of bringing the already socialized health systems of medicare and medicaid together and including a few more folks. It's sort of raising the limit of income and lowering the age requirement to participate. The illegals will still have their ER medical care and the taxpayers will simply pay more taxes. The fact that there are 1000 pages to this bill tells me two things. It was not all put together just since the end of January, and the arguing over the details is just theatre. TPTB, which include well beyond Washington, as in big money and high stakes, like the pharmaceutical companies, insurance, health care providers, etc. are also playing and have a claim in the process, as well. And we the people will ultimately have to go along with what is decided to keep our jobs. It's presented right now, that the employers will bear the burden and government will "assist." Right, any time the government is "going to help" there is going to be a problem! Ultimately, the small businesses will do the math and decide one of two things. Either it's just not worth the hassle to keep the doors open or it's worth the 6% penalty to just let the government offer the coverage. If they decide to shutter, we'll be faced with more unemployment, so more government dependency and finally, required government managed health care to collect unemployment or be gainfully employed. Health care is too big of an industry in this country, through need of services, stock investments, and employment. Health care affects most of America. Once the government manages to manage it, the government, which includes politicians from both sides of the aisle, will be able to affect most Americans.

Now That It's Government Motors

I understand the cash for clunker campaign is already running short of cash, with more clunkers to go. I'm rather surprised at the American public that doesn't mind tax dollars going on this project. And I'm really disappointed that the government couldn't have come up with this idea while General Motors and Chrysler were still afloat! Interesting idea now, don't you think? And why not have offered the stimulus money the same way they have the cash for clunkers? If TPTB are going to print money and legislate for our tax money to get thrown around, why not give it to the people? And what a lovely way to give the illusion that the economy is bouncing back? A surge of new car sales will look good in the data and stats for what a month or two? That's right, they had planned to go til November with this idea, then hoping the holiday sales rode them right on out the year. What a plan? But who is really going to come out on this deal. Ford has already advertised taking the cars back if you lose your job and what Chrysler dealers are left have new bosses, and GM is already government owned. So when the waive dies down, and the car payments are due, then what?

Correction on Yesterday's Blog

Although Michael Vick has been reinstated, he hasn't exactly been invited to a team, just yet. And so, he gets to join the practices and the offers may or may not come in from there. He's not yet 30, I'm guessing someone can find a way around someone else protesting. This is America, after all! We love our football and we certainly love our political feuding. Which leads me to the next political hot potato . . . Health Care. I find it fascinating that so many people are passing around the latest scare tactic via e-mail, when we've already been told Congress is going on vacation without passing the bill. And we already know it's President Obama's number one priority for Americans. So, the internet will be a buzz with everyone encouraging a.k.a. "trying to scare" their fellow citizens into voting differently in 2010 and 2012. Funny, I didn't get one single e-mail from these same people about how the USA Patriot Act was going to steal my freedom. When you think about it, if anyone does before they hit "Fw: Send;" the government doesn't protect my freedom, G~D does, and doctors don't heal, G~D does. So if it costs me 2% of my income to not be in the health care program and stand up for what I believe, so be it. The USA Patriot Act doesn't have any percentage allowed to opt out of that 1000 pages of craziness!

Reinstatement for Vick

I find this particular headline interesting. He was released from federal prison just last week and the NFL has already said he could be reinstated with provisions. I am just waiting for PETA to protest football, now, but that isn't the point of my blog. Michael Vick had a very lucrative career in the NFL and still felt the need to make money both illegally and cruelly. He went to federal prison, will be on parole for 3 years or something and he's already been basically welcomed back to his old job! I've counseled people for years that have small legal scrapes that can't find a job. Now that unemployment is at an all time high, he's got a job and many folks that have actually been showing up to work to take care of their job don't. I can't help but wonder what would have been different, if Michael Vick had been just some ordinary guy that got busted for dog fighting and cruelty to animals. First, I'm guessing he would have had a much longer sentence and a much later opportunity for parole. I'm also guessing when he did get out, he'd be pounding the pavement quite awhile looking for work. We've got a real double standard here in America when it comes to employment opportunity and the criminal justice system in general. Must be why so many lawmakers didn't feel the need to pay their taxes until being investigated for a higher office.

CARS

I did a bit of research on this cash for clunker program from our government. Seems anything that is less than 25 years old and been legally on the road the past year sucking gasoline to the tune of less than 18 miles per gallon meets the criteria. I couldn't help but wonder about something else. Now that vehicles will not start without their computerized or chipped key, what a great way to truly control the people. We won't have to worry about the price of gasoline if somebody somewhere just hits the button that turns off everyone's key chip. And what a great way to get rid of the vehicles that do not have the "smart chip" or whatever it is. That's the other part of the deal. The dealers that take them in on trade will actually get the CA$H from the government, but the vehicles are to be crushed, not resold. Our government is going to eliminate all vehicles that are traded in, in this program. So, I'm guessing, once the license and registration data bank confirms all the chip free cars off the road, we'll be hearing the next part of the plan from the new Government Motors.

As An Outside Observer

I am neither Mormon nor gay, so I feel that I can give a completely unbiased opinion to the events that have unfolded in Salt Lake City. I have visited Salt Lake City, and enjoyed the Great Salt Lake, for what that is worth. Now, to the issue at hand. Two guys cut across Mormon "property" after leaving a concert and apparently got caught up in their moment and kissed. When the security guards asked them to stop their behavior and to leave, the situation became an "issue." I read that today there was a protest over the situation. I have a question and a comment and then I'll just leave the gay issue to those that have the issue.
What if 2 Mormon "brothers" or missionaries came into a gay bar on a Saturday night and insisted that their "views" be listened to and tolerated? What if, instead of a kiss, they handed out tracts? Wouldn't that be some sort of intolerance issue and anti-gay issue? If 2 Mormon "missionaries" insisted that everyone listen to their schpeel in the middle of the gay bar, wouldn't that be some sort of gay gripe-issue, also? As a person that is neither gay nor Mormon, it seems to me that there are more gay rights than religious freedoms . . .

Analysis

Not the psychological kind, although it seems many Americans may qualify. I'm talking about analyzing everyone else's motives and next steps. I guess it would be political and economic analysis. And since I don't plan to blog again until near the end of the week, I'm going to analyze or pseudo analyze just a couple of things in the news. First, the Sarah Palin resignation. Rush Limbaugh isn't talking yet. Oh, he's given her some coverage, but since she's a conservative, he's not going to dissect her non-reason answer that she said was her reasons! While I'm on Sarah, I think the best coverage she could manage and the most attention she can get is to go after the media using the media. You know, her own talk show or something, so she's out front every day, the spot light is on her, but she gets to choose the topic. You know, there's enough room for Rush and Sean in the conservative pundit camp, but would there be for two women. Can you see the proverbial cat fight between Sarah and Ann Coulter? Who would want to miss that?
Now to GM, which from the news report this morning is about to become Government Motors, co-owned by Canada and the US, bringing the two countries that much closer. Now, if this is what happens when government helps, what do you think will happen to health care? Does anyone really believe government involvement is only going to offer choices and assistance? When does more government really ever offer the people a choice? And how much does the assistance really cost in the long run? I'm not looking forward to a warranty on my vehicle backed by the government, I can't imagine trusting my body to Washington. So, will the US and Canada combine their efforts in providing health care, as well?

Against my Better Judgment

The topic of this blog is Sarah Palin. That woman has never ceased to amaze me. She appears to love attention, she seems willing to go to any length to maintain the spot light, and yet while she wants all eyes upon her, she has rules! I have to admit, when I saw her parade her family before the NRC, I was less than impressed. The pregnant teen-age daughter accompanied by the "baby daddy" was just over the top! Especially if you claim to promote conservative family values. And I was less than impressed when I read about her "do or die" speech and travel itinerary the day her youngest son was born. Interesting anti-choice stand to take while taking every possible chance for a complication. I guess I just considered her to be pretty nonsensical and perhaps that explains why she doesn't understand the response she gets. She appeared to parade her kids like political props, but then said, kids should be off limits. Fine, leave the unwed father in Alaska for the convention. Don't parade the daughter that's not going to high school, then get her plastered on the front of People in a cap and gown, with baby. It just doesn't make sense to want the things Sarah Palin wants, both ways! And now, to avoid being a lame duck, she's resigning with some lame reason why it's good for the state of Alaska. Well, I would agree with her there. I do think Alaska will be just fine if Sarah goes home and tends to her family and her values. But you have to wonder if she's planning on spending time in the limelight heading for a 2012 campaign. Frankly, after seeing the way she does things, she doesn't seem to "work and play well with others." As easily offended as she is, and as confusing as her actions and answers have been, I don't think Sarah P has any business being very close to the red phone or the red button.
In all fairness to Sarah, maybe she's decided to spend some time home raising her children.

IOUs

I'm really amazed that our government continues to act as if it's business as usual. The state of California has officially issued IOUs that a couple of banks will honor until July 10th and as for those whose banks won't honor them, they can be redeemed or cashed or whatever October 2. I read that most of them are going to residents that have been awaiting their state income tax refund. Doesn't this just make you shake your head? Way back in the last century, the dollar didn't have a value of it's own, it merely represented the silver that backed it. It was 1965 that declared the dollar to be of value simply by the special paper it was written on. And checks were used to represent a dollar amount in the bank. And so today, we have IOU's to represent checks because there are no dollars to actually back the checks. And we have all realized there is nothing to back the dollars being printed in Washington. How soon will it be before the currency all gets changed again and reads something crazy like "backed by good faith credit" or something equally meaningless? I'm thinking this urgency to recreate our currency is over bigger issues than would be counterfeiters. In my game ECONAMOK, we also included IOUs for government use. And just like our game, the government doesn't have to accept them for payment of taxes, but the players all get them for various "acts of kindness" expressed by the government, like tax refunds and the like. I truly thought, two years ago, when I came up with this idea for the ECONAMOK game, it was a parody, not prophecy!

POWWWER!

With our electric bill from our rural Cooperative, New-Mac, came the regular newsletter. The newsletter explains to us every month what "they" are doing for us or to us and how we must cooperate with the cooperative, like we're co-owners or something. This month's article was entitled, "Understanding the Issues." I realize there are political issues, but what I've noticed is the "new roof" on a building that appears to be less than 20 years old and the notice of 2 annual increases based solely upon the fact that there wasn't an increase in 17 years. Well, I'm happy for those that didn't see an increase for 17 years, but I'm one of those customers/members that saw two increases in less than 4 years and all I've noticed is a new roof on the buildings, two lanes now for making payments, a hassle when I call and programmed rhetoric! Well, back to the newsletter: which states in Understanding the Issues:
"Adding to the uncertainties facing consumers today are the discussions going on in Washington, D.C, where Congress is considering what to do about the climate change issue. In a nutshell, they are debating putting limits and taxes on the release of carbon dioxide into the air."
Congress is planning to tax us for exhaling? . . . not for breathing, per se, but for returning carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. If this becomes law, then the Obama administration has exceeded the Bush administration in Power! Clearly, we can all understand how our nation taxes, but just how will our government impose "limits?"
Just when you thought income taxes were outrageous. And just when you thought you understood personal property taxes, not to mention real estate tax, but a tax on breathing? . . . or a limit . . .

Beef Recall, Swine Flu and Health Care

I've posted on these topics separately, but today, it just seems so much is "coming together!" Something like half a million pounds of beef may be tainted with E-coli, as well as E-coli found in favorite swimming holes and wading streams. With fewer deaths than 100, swine flue is labeled a pandemic, and our Congress and President want to give us all health care. There is a race between countries and companies as to who will come up with the swine flu vaccine the quickest and in the greatest quantity, and there is discussion of whether or not it should be mandatory. Excuse me, I think somewhere I should be able to make a few decisions regarding my health and I think any organization that incites this kind of fear when less than 100 deaths have actually occurred should not be doing anyone's thinking for them at all! How many will die from the vaccines? I realize, most people will be buying into the fear by next fall, but let's consider a few things logically. Every year on average, 36,000 people die of the flu and flu related complications, but we don't call that pandemic or even epidemic, do we? AIDS is much more wide spread and although it's called a pandemic, nobody is quarantining or even releasing specific information about that disease. That pandemic is still still being managed on the "dating honor system." I realize science and government and politicians world wide will continue with the "protective banter" and explanations that defy logic, but the reality is, what is going to happen has already been made clear, and it will continue to unfold regardless of recalls, vaccines, and political programs.

Politics In the News

Of course, I'm sure anyone reading this blog has by now heard of the deaths of three prominent entertainers, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson. Our prayers go out to their families, as they grieve the losses of their loved ones. Americans are an interesting lot. When celebrities die, many people who did not know them grieve their passing. And when politicians err or sin, many pass their judgment or make excuses as if they are personally involved, which is the topic of this blog. Mark Sanford has certainly made a splash. Although the comments come as no surprise, I do find it interesting how the morality and blame changes according to party lines. The excuses and the blame have absolutely nothing to do with morality or right or wrong, simply politics! The same people that just 10 short years ago that the impeachment and asked for the resignation of President Clinton are now making excuses and well blaming the media, of course. They are not even addressing the adultery factor, just the timing by the media. I actually heard Ann Coulter tell the guest host on the Dennis Miller show, just yesterday, that the media knew about this 'situation' last December. So that means all the pundits knew about this last December. Where was the outrage last December? And all the tolerant democrats that want his resignation! What's with that? He didn't leave the state in any sort of problem. They have a lieutenant governor and good grief American news is covered around the world, so I'm sure if anything major happened in South Carolina, it would have made the news in South America. I think in listening to this, the thing that offends me most is that he didn't spend Father's Day with his children. And I think I agree with his wife, his political career makes no difference to me. I am appalled at the conservative pundits who won't even address the real issue. And I am disgusted by the liberal politicians who are pointing fingers. I don't want to hear about tolerance from anyone pointing a finger and I don't want to hear about family values from anyone making excuses, or tossing distractions. Regardless of state business, regardless of marital difficulties and regardless of his policy regarding "foreign affairs," the man should have spent Father's Day with his children, all of whom I believe are sons, and for whom he should be setting an example.

My Recent Thoughts on the Middle East

I don't know that I've blogged too much about Israel since the change of command in America, but I think it's time to make a few observations about the Middle East in general. Iran appears to be proof that free elections do not necessarily bring a government the people are happy with and the rest of the world wants to deal with. We are leaving the air over Afghanistan to put more troops in harms way, and here we thought this was a done deal before we started Iraq. Now, Iraq is still Iraq, so who knows about that from day to day. Israel on the other hand is getting some seriously bad advice from allies. Here is my thought. Since Hamas and Fatah have now split the Palestinians and one group is in Gaza while the other continues on the West Bank, Israel has a real dilemma. Since the Palestinians have split into two factions, there is no way, any other entity, much less Israel can please both groups at the same time. I would have thought any number of US Presidents and Congressmen could see that, but either they truly are that dumb or simply working for "the beast." With some of our politicians it really is difficult to ascertain. Former Presidents Carter and Bush 43 should be aware of the difficulties both factions have between themselves, so there is no way to suit them. If they are not willing to come together to organize an actual country, just what do they expect out of Israel or anyone else? My guess is, continual concession and accommodation. Well, that's ridiculous. If I were Netanyahu, I would dig in my heels and tell the leaders of Hamas, Fatah, and the US, until they can present a united and specific list for peaceful negotiations toward a 2 state solution, stay home and don't keep slinging accusations or rockets! I don't believe there is or has been any US politician that cannot see these two things. 1. With the Palestinians split, Israel concedes two directions. And 2. Jerusalem is very much on the drawing board and desired to be divided by everyone except Benjamin Netanyahu and G~D.

Can You Imagine . . .

A gay wedding coordinator? I think most of us can picture that image fairly quickly, but now there are wedding coordinators that are advertising to cater gay weddings which are now becoming common place in six states, and making the headlines regularly. As a woman who is "openly straight," I have contemplated this state licensure regarding marriage for some time, now. As a matter of fact, I told my husband if we had it all to do over again, I would not want a state license, but rather simply have a religious ceremony and legally change my name. Marriage is considered a part of our religious beliefs, and I don't like the government in the middle of my beliefs. I raised a few hackles on a cnn comment site with that comment, but you know, I think we really need to quit arguing religion vs. ________________ (fill in blank). I don't think my religious beliefs should be forced on anyone, anymore than secular beliefs or alternative lifestyles be forced into my acceptance. If two men or two women want to spend their lives together and say my beliefs are inappropriate for them, fine, but in this land of freedom, shouldn't I have the same right? When homosexuality came out of the closet, it was termed an alternative lifestyle. Now they want to be married, so what's the alternative portion of the lifestyle? Many of the comments and political tide seem to suggest that religious heterosexuals are the minority alternative lifestyle. An atheist also commented on my comment, which by the way, was only a comment on another comment, but I digress. Anyway, the atheist thought marriage should be strictly through government because they didn't want any religion in their ceremony. Here's my idea. I think the gays should do what they want, because they will anyway, and I am tired of hearing how to wear the kid gloves. I'm fine with acceptance of them choosing their lifestyle, with all due respect, we'll have our different beliefs and hopefully be nice about it, but so far here in America, I'm entitled to have my perspective, even if it does not suit someone else's political agenda. I don't think we heterosexuals have to get into the closet, just because they came out. And as for the atheists and secularists, great get your G~D less license and ceremony, but atheism and secular humanism are belief systems, and a belief system is really very similar to "religion." What I would truly like to see is for all those that want their marriage rights according to their own specs through the state to be able to do that. I would like to have a simple religious ceremony without the "blessing of the state," but the recognition, by the government of my religious marriage. Oh, I know, that would just open the door for someone else to come up with something else to argue about, because after all, this is America!

Bigger Government

Can our government get any bigger? At this rate we'll need a sponsoring country soon, perhaps more than one. We are a rather large and needy society with a government that has a voracious appetite for power and the inability to self-sustain. Our Congress keeps telling us how much they want to do for us, but the reality is the pharmaceutical and insurance lobby, along with big business in general, have a greater influence on Congress than we the voters, ever will. Our President appears to be determined to provide us with a government that will oversee every area of our lives and he seems to believe he should be quite influential internationally as well. I don't know if all this hunger for power is his personal trait or just goes with living in the White House. I do think if the men living in the White House want the rest of the world to answer to them, they need to remember, governments that cannot sustain themselves tend to run out of power when the support beneath them, gives out.

Really, This Happened in America?

I'm used to reading about some sort of morality offense in one of the Arab nations, but those nations base their laws on their religion. So, whether we agree or disagree, think it's outrageous, or too strict or whatever, the laws are the laws of that nation and the citizens are aware of those laws, presumably before they are broken. Now, here I read in some city in Maine, a young man was not given his diploma because when his name was called, he stood and took a bow and blew a kiss toward his family, specifically his mother. The principal then chose to humiliate him in front of the crowd and sent him back to his seat WITHOUT his diploma. I personally find this ridiculous, on the part of the educator, but it raised more concerns than that. The educator is already where they are in life, with apparently just a control issue or two, so I really am not so concerned with that individual. But what has this taught the young man. He wasn't making out with his girl-friend nor did he drop his gown to streak the commencement, he blew a kiss to his mother. Considering the young man had completed 12 years of school, 13 including kindergarten and a single kiss that made no human contact at all, now precludes him from receiving what he earned, indicates our education system is an even bigger mockery than I had already thought. If he was going to be humiliated and denied what he had already earned, I think a number of kids would have wished they'd have done something more outrageous and show stopping. This is just one more example in American headlines in which the young people are literally being goaded to make the crime match the punishment. I truly hope his mother manages to obtain his transcript and the history around his lack of a diploma. It really made me wonder, when we read the headlines about kids that get violent at school, if it's peer pressure or outrageous examples of control? I'm sure the superintendent or the school board will set things right, but this young man's moment has passed and by my perspective, his principal was much more disorderly than any student could have been. And when the educator pulled this ridiculous display of control, the young man simply went back to his seat. He's not even my son, and I'm proud of him!

What Do You Mean . . . No List of Visitors

Dear Mr. President:
I believe you will find, if you check the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, as well as the Declaration of Independence, that there is no fine print giving you sole ownership of the White House. We the people own the White House and we have a right to know who comes and goes. It really is that simple. Now, while you are rallying the "programmed" to believe the last administration held secrets, therefore it is acceptable; may I remind you, that that administration also used the term: "transparent." As life played out, it meant nothing then, and it is appearing that it means nothing now.
Mr. President, if the names of the guests in the White House cannot be shared and revealed to the owners of the White House, then you truly do not have an administration of transparency.
Have what you want, you "won," but let's just all make it "very clear" that we have a different definition of "transparency."

I Can't Get Over This

President Obama has done what I thought was impossible. He has finally made me agree with the American Medical Association. George W. Bush managed to accomplish a number of policies I completely disagreed with, but he never caused me to agree with Rush Limbaugh or members of the medical profession! This health care mess is really getting to me. I realize most of America doesn't believe we can trust G~D for healing, and apparently the idea of going to heaven isn't actually appealing to those espousing the idea. The other morning, I awoke to some evangelist on the radio shouting to his audience, "Do you want to see Jesus?" That was when I told my husband, they ought to pass the plates and have everyone put their medicine bottles in. If they really are believing for a miracle or really want to see the streets of gold, then put down their pills and they'd get one or the other. I guess that's where faith would be involved, not knowing which way it would turn out . . . But I digress, back to President Obama. I've got a plan for his health program. Clearly he wants to control everything, I understand that. George W. Bush already put a lot into place for this big plan and without a doubt, President Obama is not wasting any time grabbing more power. Back to my plan. Since health care and the pharmaceutical industry really is simply big business, let's handle this like the business it is. I think it makes sense for employees to pay taxes on the employer provided health plan. It is, after all, part of their income. This alone, about 20 years ago, might have saved GM. Next, any procedure that someone elects to have, there should be some sort of "income tax" assessed on the cost over the deductible. Can you imagine the tax base increase? If someone wants a $250,000.00 procedure on their $100.00 premiums, then fine, but let them pay taxes on their "gift." Treat insurance coverage just like winning the lottery or the grand prize on a game show. I'm fine with continuing to pay my taxes for medicare and medicaid, but I don't want health care from anyone but G~D, and I don't want any mandatory requirement for insurance from my government. It's a business, if I don't invest for my personal consumption, turn me down at the door. It's really that simple. Leave the health care to the consumers that are benefiting and let the rest of us just keep paying our taxes. I don't think doctors are "healers" or are "called," as the President said to them today. I think they are pharmaceutical salesmen with power issues. I know what I believe, and I don't want my government legislating more laws against my beliefs for my presumed benefit! I already have a health care contract and I am very satisfied with my health care provider.

When the Facts are Compared

I'll be the first to admit, just because I read something in the news, it doesn't mean I think I actually have the correct information. I am going to share an interesting contrast in solutions for two families that share similar tragedies. One, I've blogged about before and the second happened quite recently. The first situation is the one in which the mother of an eleven year old girl that died of undiagnosed diabetes, was found "guilty of reckless homicide" and is facing up to 25 years in prison. Now, I don't necessarily agree with everything in their belief system, but I do live in America and Congress is not supposed to make any laws against any religion. A mother praying for her child is not homicide, the child did not die of injuries or wounds at the mother's hand . . . At any rate, the woman faced criminal charges and her husband is also facing the same charges. The second situation involves a man that was also an undiagnosed diabetic. He died in the emergency room, however; after waiting for seven hours to be seen. I read that he tried to leave twice, only to lose consciousness and be brought back into the ER by security. He continued to suffer in the waiting room until his death, according to the report. Now, the difference? His family can file a "wrongful death" law suit against the hospital. That's all. No criminal charges, no charges of negligence, and no one person in particular is held responsible. Just wrongful death, lots of paperwork, a couple of lawyers will make some money, and the institution will continue with their present methods. Maybe there will be a settlement, and maybe the family will simply discover that they cannot hold the hospital accountable. The outcome remains to be seen. What caught my eye, of course, is the difference in which the law is dispensed, when faith is involved.

What Perverse Stupidity

And no, I'm not referring to David Letterman, I'm talking about Sarah Palin and her schmendrik husband. The audacity of this woman simply astounds me. To even think that someone would suggest something sexual about an under aged girl fits my definition of perverse. The entire world presumed he was referring to the 18 year old, who has been plastered on magazines for months and appeared on talk shows like a political prop. No one in their right mind, pardon the pun, would think David Letterman was referring to the younger daughter. That presumption, in my book, is perversion. Truth be told, Sarah, nobody cares that much about whether you appeared or didn't appear and what family members attend your functions, so it was only natural to really just make fun of all the "real people" things Sarah has liked to parade in front of the country. Sarah is the one that has called all the sexual attention to her "campaigning" by making teens famous for their irresponsible behavior. And now, Bristol is the poster girl for abstinence. Please! Those of us that really are living real lives find this just a bit questionable. The evangelical right has certainly changed their stand in the last thirty years, only they used to hide the girls in shame, not parade them. And the girls were the ones blamed, not the rest of the world for not keeping their mouths shut. Ah, American conservatism, what a shining example of values and morality. Do what you want, seek all the attention you can grab and then blame someone else. Nice touch, there folks. All this has done is made me realize how much I enjoyed David Letterman when I used to have a TV. He's made some lousy jokes through the years, but mostly he's funny, and contemporary with political issues. He may have some jokes that bomb, but I have never heard or read that he has condoned or even suggested anything sexually perverse involving under aged children. Palins, that's your suggestion, not his. And just for the record, I believe David Letterman has been a comedian much longer than Sarah has been a politician. So, all things considered, if David Letterman was suggesting inappropriate material, I think it would have surfaced by now. Unlike trooper-gate, and family travel at the state's expense, I do believe David Letterman feels he owes a certain accountability for which he takes responsibility! Seems his answers to the accusations were much more socially acceptable than the accusations and the response to his invitation.

A Circus

The political headlines are getting ridiculous. We have people concerned with President Obama's favorite food, Michelle Obama's biceps, and Sarah Palin's attendance at the GOP fundraiser was on again, off again, and made a headline every time it changed. The real problem here, is the election was only 6 months ago, meaning the campaigning appears to be perpetual at this point. And the American public appears to be comfortable with no life and treating politicians like celebrities. I haven't personally read about Michelle Obama's personal trainer or work out schedule, and I had no idea President Obama's diet was such an issue until I happened on to a story about a Pizza place in which the patrons are willing to wait 2 hours to be seated. Unbeknownst to me when I began reading, it was because Candidate Obama had eaten there when on the campaign trail, and said it was great. I only mention it here, because as I read, it seems the owner was invited to fix pizza at the White House in April. What caught my eye was the fact that the trip was self-financed. He was invited to come cook and serve on his own dime!!! And he's happy to have done so. He went from Missouri to Washington DC to cook on his own dime and the Obamas went to NY for dinner and theatre and it was our dime! What gives with this President of ours? He can get people eating out of his hand and paying to feed him!
Now on to Sarah Palin, all I can say is she is still managing to stay in the headlines, no matter how ridiculous she looks doing so. So, the American political circus continues. And you know many clowns will put in an appearance in one of the three rings before 2012?

Empire Building

Things are certainly moving fast. I'm one of the few Americans that doesn't think President Obama has managed all this in just a few short months. I remember e-banking established in the last administration, as well as e-medical records. I also know, if anything good is coming from any decisions, it's simply the grace of G~D, but to be honest, I don't see much good coming from any of the decisions made in this new century, from either side of the aisle or the citizens for that matter. I just finished reading about "Clear Fly." It's the biometric card for getting through the airport without having to be treated like cattle or walk through the body scanner. Now that President Obama is telling PM Netanyahu how Israel should be run, and promising the Arab countries to keep Israel in tow, I look for this Empire to build even more rapidly. Again, don't get me wrong. American Presidents have long been telling the rest of the world what to do and what is expected. America is just kind of the self appointed "earth monitor" much in the tradition of ancient Rome. As a matter of fact, it's getting clearer and clear to see the Roman Empire is really still alive and well, just renamed, America. And the more convenience, security, and power "we the people are promised," the more most of us will bow down and accept it, and depending upon the side of the aisle that it is presented, will ask for more! The left side of the aisle will offer health care and education and their constituents will tout the greatness of the Empire. The right of the aisle will promise protection and private prosperity and those constituents will laud and applaud. It matters not which side of the aisle takes more power and makes more promises, it's all coming and quicker than we think!

Have You Noticed?

Gasoline prices are going up again! Of course everyone can't help but notice that, but I've noticed something else. Last year when the gas price skyrocketed, many independents closed. Not only did they have FOR SALE signs up for awhile, but once they did finally close, the tanks were dug up. Those places will not reopen as gas stations. And a number of independent convenience stores that have remained open, no longer sell gas, and their tanks have also been removed. I find it interestingly alarming that while we the people are concerned with the government taking over the auto industry, the gasoline is going to be hard to find. Even if we can still afford it, the stations are getting fewer and farther between. I remember when Candidate Obama went campaigning in other countries and I commented that I thought he wanted to be President of the world. Well, now he's President of America and President of GM, so who knows? Maybe it will be one industry take-over at a time, rather than winning the countries one by one. Really when you think about the grand scheme of it all, America is a relatively recent flash in the pan, and the auto industry even newer, so we average folk may end up back to what worked for thousands of years. We may find ourselves on foot or horseback with the autos and gasoline supply reserved and made available for just the elite few in Washington and the UN, of course.

I couldn't help but notice all the uproar about President Obama's speech in Egypt. I'll be honest about my opinion. I don't think he's a secret Muslim, I think he's open about his desire to be whatever his audience expects . . . When he was campaigning, women in jihab were asked to move out of camera range while he spoke "Christianese," and now he's in Egypt quoting the Koran. In all fairness, I think he wowed AIPAC with a few quotes of Talmud along the way. I have to admit it, the guy is good at giving his crowd what they want to hear. He remains distantly aloof while speaking of relating to them. It's a trait very few have. It goes far beyond charisma, but I digress. He did conclude his speech in Egypt with some very interesting quotes that confirmed a question I raised in one of my books. In reading a commentary at CNN, written by a Muslim, the quotes are as follows:
"Finally, in the spirit of his event, President Obama concluded his remarkable Cairo address by highlighting the individual mandates for peace in each of the major Abrahamic religions.
He said that, "The Holy Quran tells us, 'O mankind! We have ... made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.' ... The Talmud tells us: 'The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace. ...'"
"The Holy Bible tells us, 'Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.' ... The people of the world can live together in peace. We know that is God's vision. Now, that must be our work here on Earth."
I didn't see a clear reference to peace in the Quran quote, but the President apparently believed that to be in the indication . . .
So, if the three major religions all say they espouse PEACE, clearly a piece of the puzzle is being overlooked, politically. I did notice that the Torah was not actually quoted, so I'll share a few quotes I have found.

Extravagance In Common

I've had a hard time feeling like I can relate to our President or that he in any way can relate to me. He just seems to have suddenly appeared and taken charge. President Obama doesn't seem to me, to be able to relate to the average American at all. Oh, I know, he's got a following, but usually leaders are, in fact, "not one of the crowd." When President Bush - W. was elected, although I wasn't born with a silver spoon, I could see his supposed relevance in the political arena. It was like a family business. And when President Clinton was elected, it was easy to see that he was in fact completely sold out to politics and had been gleaned for decades, and I'm sure we can go back and see some sort of theme of Americana in each President, but I am having problems seeing it in Barack Obama. This has nothing to do with his complexion, but rather his distance. I know the big debate about his birth certificate, and maybe, maybe not, but clearly he did not spend his formative years in America. And the fact that his name was changed to something less traditionally American also seems foreign, as I watch him. But the fact that I cannot relate, has nothing to do with his name or his sudden rise to power, it's the fact that he is so confident in his new power while remaining so detached. He's apologizing to foreign countries and planning to tax us to death. It just seems he's oblivious to the things that have been consistent through our history. As I watched his high handedness with GM, I couldn't help but think, perhaps if GM hadn't spent a fortune building bullet proof Escalades for politicians, the company might be in better shape now, or maybe they were paid quite well by the tax payers and this is simply a matter of their thinking the company was bullet proof . . .
This past week-end, though, I finally found a way to relate to the Obamas, and of all things, it's in the area of extravagance as a couple. I read that the President had promised his wife, after the election, he'd take her to a Broadway show. When my husband makes a promise to me, and when he gets around to keeping it, it comes out of our budget. Now there were nearly three months between the election and the Inauguration, and over three months since, so clearly when the President gets around to keeping his promise, it also comes out of our budget!

What's Good for General Motors is Good for America?

I awoke to sad news this morning. Not that I wasn't expecting it, but the announcement made it so real and so final, it just hit me harder than I thought it would. I've read some of the debates and commentaries on the topic, but it doesn't change the fact that General Motors is now, officially, just another part of the Government Machine. The Government says GM only gets $30B more and the CEO says they won't need a second chance! Excuse me . . . all this bail out was for corporations "too big to fail" and yet bankruptcy seems to carry an element of "failed." Lehman Brothers didn't receive any bail out, filed bankruptcy, were taken off the stock exchange, and the company no longer exists. General Motors is off the exchange, received billions of dollars, already, filed bankruptcy, and yet, still exists, supposedly to make Chevrolets, Cadillacs, GMCs, and Buicks. Sounds like a second chance to me! So, if I follow the line of thinking that was proposed years ago in advertising, and used in the title of this blog, just where does this correlation leave America? Is America too big to fail? Our government can print more money . . . so bankruptcy can perhaps be avoided, unless of course other countries call in their notes. Has America already parted and sold herself out? I think, rather than remove the liabilities like GM says they have done with Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Hummer, and Saturn, America has maintained the liabilities in government programs and parted out the assets, as in businesses going overseas or bankrupted, and jobs being outsourced.
President Obama said Monday he was confident that the additional federal help was justified by the changes being made at GM.
"GM and its stakeholders have produced a viable, achievable plan that will give this iconic American company a chance to rise again," he said.
"But GM can't put this plan into effect on its own. Executing this plan will require a substantial amount of money that only a government can provide."
To be government owned doesn't seem like a good plan for General Motors, and I don't think most Americans want to be owned, either.

Memorial Day

As I've heard the radio announcers promote the meaning of Memorial Day, I've pondered the meaning, myself. I told my husband a couple of years ago, it won't be long until the only holidays that are acknowledged in school are pro-patriotism, and I guess since there is supposed to be a separation of church and state, that's okay. So since there is a separation of church and state, imagine my surprise yesterday morning when I awoke to the radio playing the "Southern Gospel hour" and everything was patriotic. Where's the separation, I ask? Now, clearly the church and synagogue have realized they have no place in government. So, why is the church singing praise to the government on church time? I've been particularly upset about a situation in Wisconsin. There are some people there that have similar beliefs to mine, especially in the area of health care. Their 11 year old daughter died and Friday a jury found the mother guilty of "reckless homocide!" I can't believe there were no believers on that jury! And since that was the case, how was that a jury of her peers? I am still in shock that this happened right here in America. The very place that today, we are memorializing all those that have died for American freedom. I just wonder how all the men and women through history that have fought and bled and died for freedom, especially religious freedom, would feel if they were alive today and heard about this? Is this the kind of freedom they fought and died for? Freedom from religion? Now, that our nation has determined that true Biblical faith is illegal, where's the freedom they fought and died for?

Now He's Gone and Done It

I didn't think it would be possible and certainly not this soon, but President Obama has caused me to do the unbelievable. He's caused me to agree with Rush Limbaugh! Not on everything, but on more than I thought. Actually I only heard Rush Limbaugh for a few minutes in an interview with Glenn Beck. Glenn Beck is a case, and I have to admit, I thought Glenn and Rush would certainly be good material for a blog. Well, instead of lambasting in his usual fashion, and I only heard a few minutes of the interview, Rush was simply questioning the value of government owned "everything." Granted he was obviously pointing a finger at President Obama without mentioning the TARP by Bush, but he said some things I've been writing about and talking about. Our government is about to control everything in our lives. Our government is already controlling a great deal of the banking industry, the mortgage and lending, and now credit, and let's not forget the automobile industry. And we're about to have national health care, and let's not forget all the new bureaucracy being introduced to food and disease concerns. Before when it was simply regulations for FAA and FCC, it seemed that our government was protecting the citizens with a few regulations, but now. Our government is well on it's way to total control, of just about everything that affects the citizens. It's always for our good, remember. I just read about people signing up for the driving to be monitored to reduce their insurance. The article had the words "Big Brother" right in the headline, like it was a good thing. We will have no free market, no free trade, and ultimately no freedom. All that, and Rush and I AGREE it's a bad plan!

Bumper Stickers Say Alot

I saw a Bumper Sticker that simply spoke volumes today. We had a crazy day all over the place and ended up still in town around 3 this afternoon, so we stopped at the little Chinese Restaurant to have lunch. Surprising for the time of day it was, the parking lot was fairly full. As we crossed the parking lot to enter the establishment, I noticed one of the old campaign bumper stickers from last fall on a vehicle. It was the one that mentioned "pitbull & lipstick," McCain-Palin. I told my husband that I'd be able to spot the owner of that vehicle, when we got inside. I'd done some work on the other place and I wanted to wash my hands before we ate, so I headed to the ladies room and my husband sat down and ordered our drinks. It's a buffet, so I fixed our plates and sat down with him. As we were eating I couldn't help but notice the people and their styles and manners. There was one table that appeared to be "four generations." When the generation about my age started harping at the toddler, I began to take notice. The toddler's mother had gone back to the buffet and he wanted to go with her. He really wasn't being loud, just wanted "Mommy." Grandma, on the other hand was quite a scene. As I watched this, I watched the Great Grandma placing napkins on the floor over what was a horrible scattered mess under the high chair of a little girl that was about a year old. I'm not just talking about something dropped, or even something spilled, I'm talking mess, scattered mess, and the adults are walking through it and putting napkins over it. I told my husband, I thought I had the owner of the bumper sticker in sight. Then, when I didn't think it could get any more socially unacceptable, I watched as they all went to the cash register, had the owner divide the ticket according to their specifications, watched the waitress take every cleaning supply on the place, to the "area" and they hadn't even left a tip.
Sure enough, I watched them all pile into the vehicle with "the message!" Bumper stickers really do say alot!

Justice for All?

I read about the woman in Wisconsin who is facing charges in regard to the death of her daughter. The trial apparently began Saturday. She's the woman who didn't believe in doctors and was trusting G~D, and her daughter died. So this grieving mother has not only lost her daughter in death, she is now being punished for her religious beliefs. My Bible says G~D has numbered our days. What if that was simply that little girl's day to die? What if her diabetes had been diagnosed and treated she was fatally injured riding her bike or whatever? We don't get a guarantee in this world, as to how long we are staying.
Now, on the other hand, I read about a couple of young men that were out coon hunting or something at night and were being pulled over for speeding, and were apparently trying to get the loaded gun out of the front seat, because you know it's illegal to fire a weapon from a vehicle. At any rate, one of the young men accidentally shot and wounded the other, pretty badly. He didn't die, but it did result in a disability which is being financially rewarded, and handsomely, I might add. And nobody got a ticket!
I feel badly for both situations, but I don't understand the difference in the way our country handles it. The young man that was being careless, although his life has changed, has all sorts of assistance from many governmental agencies. The mother, that was standing on her beliefs and was doing everything she believed she should do, to care for her daughter has also had her life changed, and to add insult to injury, she is now being persecuted. Hard to believe, right here in America!

Laws and Ethics?

Waterboarding is back in the news. I have a few observations to make in regard to "waterboarding." First, I don't care what we are being spoon fed, there is a clear and simple fact that remains. Anyone that can sit down and think up torture techniques is clearly an individual of, shall we say, "thoughts not appropriate for polite society . . ." And apparently they are well respected in some areas of our government. I find that unsettling to begin with. Next there is the fact that if someone truly does believe their life is threatened or made uncomfortable or pained for prolong periods of time, repeatedly, they will tell you whatever they think you want to hear. Think about it on a basic human level. You're already in captivity for an undefined period of time, held without being charged, and as far as you know, the representation you will be allowed are members of the same organization that is holding you. Now, there is no immediate way out, and you can't phone home. I'm guessing the thought will at least cross your mind that those who are holding you captive will stop their intense interrogation methods if they get some sort of answer to investigate. Just a thought. Next, I read that the waterboarding was repeated numerous times on some of these detainees and it resulted in so much valuable information. If it took several times, was it really effective? Or back to my previous point, did the detainee finally come up with a story that would put an end to the torture? I still have to ask, will we truly ever know if something was prevented. If it didn't happen, will we ever know if it really was going to happen?
Next we have Nancy saying the CIA misled her regarding waterboarding. She said they said they weren't doing it. Now, they say when they briefed her on it and they told her they were doing it. If they were already doing it when they told Nancy, then the CIA was operating without Congressional approval, and now that Nancy is in the majority she wants to make an issue. They need to be careful about their definition of torture. Since waterboarding is not considered torture, what would they do if they were faced with it, to get the truth about this situation? We're choosing to blur a line that should never be blurred and never be crossed. If our government can define and redefine torture and then deny knowing anything, when will it be determined to be appropriate in other circumstances? After all, it won't be torture, if it's US doing it . . . right?

A Bit of a Rant Yesterday

Okay, I'm a little calmer and will try to just stay on a topic, rather than rant about half a dozen tangents. I see that GM is playing this a little closer to the vest than Chrysler did. I'm guessing that may be because they don't intend to take back the inventory, so the names are not being released. I'm glad we bought what could very well be our last vehicle made by GM. In my last book, Threshold of Technocracy, I mentioned we were looking at GM being the initials for food, rather than cars, as in "genetic modification." I gave up Cadillac driving for something a bit more practical, for farm life. We bought a Chevy Uplander and we really do like it. My daughter calls it our FUV (Farm Utility Vehicle.) So far it's hauled everything from "the whole bunch of us for an outing" to goats, feed, fruit trees, and fish for the new pond. With things going the way they are, the vehicles may be cheaper in the next few months, or maybe just maybe our purchase will make the difference between the dealership being closed or remaining a vital part of our community's economy. I pray the dealership gets to choose as to whether or not they want to continue doing business with the Corporation. I still have a real issue with the fact that the big guys get their big bucks and the individuals that invest their lifetime and their life savings in the product can be put out of business with the stroke of a pen, at someone else's desk. I'm sorry for Chrysler, but they had the luxury of Lee Iacocca and certainly have been at the top of the game with their Vans and big Dodge trucks for quite awhile. I think that was simply some poor management, when they came up with the PT Cruiser. It's like they were grabbing at a gimmick, and gimmicks are never sustaining. Now, it seems that the auto industry is just at the mercy of the agenda to track, contain, and control. They bought into it with cell phones and GPS, but it took on a life of it's own, to the demise of individual transportation. The elimination of all these vehicles will certainly encourage the use and enhance the value of the Super Rail that is planned.

Wrecked

The auto industry is simply, in a word, wrecked. I can't even fathom what the people that have invested their lives in their "franchise" dealerships are facing. The big guys get their bail out, but this depression is going to take the last of the independent businessmen and financially destroy them. The auto workers will get their severance, the executives will get their packages, and the dealerships get their notice, and the word is, the big company isn't even going to take back the inventory. So, it will come down to paying the overhead to give the vehicles away at the fire sale price, or bankruptcy. Where is the economy strengthened in this maneuver? I remember, "what is good for GM is good for America." I remember, "see the USA in a Chevrolet."
I remember, "Chevy, the heartbeat of America . . ." and I also remember Tucker! So, is this a case of "what goes around, comes around?"
Back to Henry Ford. According to everything I've read, Henry Ford had a hatred for farming . . . the very purpose for which G~D created man.
Looks like Ford will be the last auto-maker standing . . . Henry Ford was recognized, early on, as a globalist, yet wrote such as the "International Jew" which was anti-Semitic.

GM and Gasoline

I filled up our new Chevy Uplander today and gasoline has taken a jump, again. We paid $2.09 a gallon. Well, with the 9/10 of a cent that is always added, I guess we paid closer to $2.10. I checked GM today at the end of the day and discovered at about 10:00 this morning, I could have bought two shares of GM for what I paid for a gallon of gasoline today. Seems an odd reality, wouldn't you say? I've been watching this General Motors calamity for months now and there is just something inevitable and final on the horizon. I don't like it, but I'm afraid it's a fact. GM has been my favorite through the years. Oh, I liked AMC, also, but they've not been around for what, now, 25 years! I did a search about AMC and I found out they are the ones building military vehicles, so maybe the government has other plans for General Motors. At any rate, it seems so coincidental that here at the end of May, the gasoline prices will soar for the summer travel and GM is facing total restructuring under the government or collapse, called "bankruptcy protection." I, personally, don't see where the term "protection" applies. Oh, I know, it's so the stock holders and creditors can't go after their money, but if there isn't any, there simply isn't any.
I know automobile manufacturers have come and gone through the years in the US, but I really thought about buying some GM stock, just for a memento. I know GM won't survive a bankruptcy and come out stronger . . . and I just cringe to think about what GM will become if the government becomes a major stockholder.
Considering the cost of my gasoline purchase and the fact that it is contributing to the economy of another country, I just couldn't help but think about how much GM stock I could buy for that same amount of money.

Ponzi, Madoff, and Social Security

I've been thinking there is a real correlation here and now I'd like to present my evidence. In following the headlines, we were told that Madoff had a Ponzi scheme, and so I read about Ponzi himself and this is what I basically understand to be the plan. Solicit investors for a promised return that is better than what they are receiving now, or even better; a payoff down the road for a product or investment that they are never personally involved in, just paper work. Then solicit more investors and use their money to pay the first investors what was promised. Next, you have to have paperwork, lots and lots of paperwork to be able to show [overwhelm] someone that asks any questions. Make it so economically high brow that anyone that would dare ask would only feel that they are making themselves look ignorant. And always keep your original investors satisfied. They are the ones that think they own the plan! You can always change the promised return and extend the date of delivery for the later investors or as Ponzi and Madoff discovered, you can simply run out of new investors and leave everyone holding the bag. Now, I mentioned a correlation with these two gents and social security. There are similarities to a Ponzi scheme and Social Security, no doubt, but there are also differences. In a Ponzi scheme, he couldn't print more money or bonds, the government can. In a Ponzi scheme, the contribution and investment was voluntary, in social security, it is mandatory. In a Ponzi scheme, when the truth is discovered, the "idea guy" goes to jail, as Mr. Madoff just discovered, whereas in regard to Social Security, the "idea guy" FDR died a beloved hero. In a Ponzi scheme the initial investors don't know the secondary investors are paying their return, but in Social Security the first investors are collecting with full knowledge of the loss that the secondary investors will suffer and without conscience of what the later investors are contributing with no hope of ever seeing a cent of their investment while it remains mandatory. Without a doubt, Ponzi and Madoff were greedy and dishonest, but they were just individuals, and their investors were, for the most part, strangers. How can an entire country of "leadership" and elders knowingly do this Ponzi scheme to their grandchildren?

Finally . . . Change I Could Take Note Of

I read about the annual White House Correspondent's Dinner. That was the one event that I just thought George W. Bush always shined. That single event always made me want to throw a big barbecue and invite him. No matter how much I disagreed with the majority of his decisions, and just couldn't see his politics, I enjoyed the humorous, human side of him, as I read the press coverage and heard the radio reports after this dinner. Upon reading about the Obama White House Correspondent's Dinner, I realize now I see the change. I don't agree with a number of Obama's decisions and can't really embrace his politics, but his so called attempt at humor was sad and his apparent appreciation of beneath "common" entertainment, I find inappropriate for society in general, much less the White House. Not only is President Obama out of touch with the common folk, I find him to support a great deal of racism,, and he's simply not funny. George W. Bush would actually make sport of certain things going on his own life; his approval ratings, his speech pattern, etc. President Obama came across completely arrogant and aloof. I never heard President Bush turn the White House Correspondent's Dinner into a "roast" of politicians and pundits that were not in attendance. Maybe I'm not getting a clear picture or accurate report, but from what I've read from the media that supposedly promotes him, I'm less than impressed. At this point in his administration, after reading his so called humor and enjoyment of the event, the only thing that came to mind was "The Gong Show." Rather than some of the comments that I read that were made that evening, I think the sound of the gong would have been an improvement.

Books and Bullets

I don't particularly think these two subjects are connected, but these are two topics I want to address today, and we'll just see where this blog goes.
President Obama wants to make education more available to those that are on unemployment, as in going to school, not looking for work, and not losing their unemployment checks. What the article told me in reading about his plan is this: the jobs from which many have become "unemployed" are not coming back, so it's time for retraining. This plan would interconnect compensation with education, and divert the attention from the fact that employment opportunities are simply not available, so our President is ready to pay people to go to school.
Now, that's one issue.
The next one is slightly frightening and also an indication of the lack of hope. I thought "hope" was what we the people voted FOR! I've been following the availability of ammunition for certain guns. I don't think there will be tighter gun laws or prohibition of the 2nd amendment. Have all the guns you want, there just won't be any bullets . . . I have also noticed as people are speaking of guns and firearms, there is no lack of 30-30 ammo or 30-06, and for the most part shotgun shells remain available. The lack is in .380 and 38 Special ammo, which are hand guns and revolvers. It seems while everyone is talking about living off the land and surviving off of nature, if it "comes down to that," the ammo to hunt is not being stockpiled and remains readily available on the store shelves, while the ammo to "stop people" is what is in short supply.
So, in all this hope, why is there a shortage of ammo for guns that don't kill dinner, but rather, guns that kill people?

Simple Advice Through This Depressing Recession

We're all reading so many headlines that give conflicting information about our economy. One day it's better because it's not dropping so fast, the next week it's worse in other areas than first expected. What we know is this. We are Americans and our leadership operates completely in debt and we've accepted this as our way of life. I know so many people that are "one payment away" from getting on the right path. This is going to sound like a sermon or parental advice, and maybe it's a little of both! You know, we just have to drop it all and get on the right path, then pick up the pieces and pay for the broken mess, one piece at a time. Don't borrow any more, don't spend anything on anything unnecessary, and first and foremost we need to get back to giving G~D what HE expects, which is the first portion of our income. And here's the good news, HE doesn't even expect anywhere close to the percentage we pay in taxes! I heard more about this economy looking up later in the year, and that projection is based upon more spending!!! They don't get it yet, and "they" will continue to encourage the people to spend and borrow and borrow and spend, because it's really pretty simple. As the government begins to be a major shareholder in banks and big business, like say GM and Freddie and Fannie, the people that are indebted will literally be in bondage. This is getting closer to reality than we think. While we're arguing over credit cards and political parties, we're entering slavery to our own materialism and instant gratification.
We've got to just stop spending what we don't have, as individuals and as a nation.

So, Now it Appears to Just Depend Upon One's Perspective

Well this economic crisis certainly is "spell binding" now isn't it! One week, everything is bleak and unexpectedly worse, and the next week, it's leveling off, or at least not plummeting so drastically. I find it particularly ironic that Ben Bernanke now says the economic horizon is looking up, because it's not declining as rapidly as it was. I've been thinking about all this and all these "latest and most insightful perspectives" and I've arrived at this conclusion, which is a question. What if the hay day is simply over and the economic decline is slowing because "we the people" realize this is the reality of the new millennium and the results of years of "blame and diversion" administrations. What if the economic decline is a result of the fact that the boomers were right early on, and the materialistic establishment is the road to destruction? Remember the ad "Chevy, the heartbeat of America?" So with Chevy being our heartbeat, does that mean with the potential government take over or forced bankruptcy, that America is about to go flat-line? Oh, but that can't be, because TPTB say it's going to get better after it gets worse. Isn't that kind of like saying, "It will feel so good when it quits hurting?"
I'm not buying into it and I'm not investing in these promises. I really think it just depends upon where you are standing as you view the situation, and if I were in a government position, I think I'd be wanting "the people" to believe it was going to get better. As an itinerant minister and blogger, I don't think "a better economy" is on it's way, but I'm guessing the reference: "a better economy," is about to be redefined!

A New Supreme Court Justice to be Appointed

Well, the debate should heat up over the next couple of months. I can hear it now! So many in America will be thrilled that President Obama will be appointing a new justice, all ready, in his presidency. But there is a group that would rather President Obama did not have that power just now. I, think, as usual, the timing is just really interesting. Justice Souter isn't even 70 years old. I didn't know Supreme Court Justices retired at all, except for extreme health issues. The rest of us will have to work long after 70 . . . I did a bit of research about his fame for the decision regarding Eminent Domain and I didn't realize how that vote went down. Seems Sandra Day O'Connor agreed with Justices Thomas, Rehnquist, and Scalia, but were outnumbered by the others. All I remember hearing at the time, though was Souter's vote and of course the usual gripes about Ruth Bader Ginsburg's politics. We need to remember, fellow Americans. Each Justice is allowed only one decision per case. Until now, seven justices have been appointed by Republican presidents. So, the reality is, if the Supreme Court was going to change the laws about abortion, or reduce federal government in our lives, or protect small business, we'd have seen the evidence long before now. It simply isn't going to happen. Now, when President Obama appoints someone to replace Justice Souter, who by the way has been a disappointment to the expectations of republicans, the Supreme Court really will not change that drastically. Once the President makes a choice, which we know will have no problems for approval by Congress; of the nine Justices, there will be only 3 appointed by a democrat president. And even if this individual, probably a woman, were to be the most far left leaning person on the planet. Even if this person made a communist socialist seem conservative, they will offer only one opinion out of 9. Now, if two or three more "retire" that may appear suspect, but no one has ever known what to expect out of Souter, and we'll have a pretty good idea going in, as to the perspective of Obama's choice.
