Obesity is a Threat to National Security?

According to Michelle Obama, that would be correct! Since one in four potential recruits is over weight, she didn't say how much, just not within the military guidelines, that is somehow supposed to threaten our national security in a volunteer military. Well, I might get my knickers in a knot if our public school system was in place for military preparation, but it isn't. Elementary school to military would be way to Nazi-ish Hitler youth, now, wouldn't it? I am glad that Michelle brought the subject to our attention, however. Since we now know that the government feels school meals are responsible for our nation's problem with weight, let's address a few of the issues that have been existing for decades now. Years ago, when I was in elementary school, the school lunch was obviously abundant in carbs, yet adhered to the square meal concept with the square containing four food groups. We always had fruit/vegetables, dairy, meat and grains. It was, as I said, high carb, but basically balanced for the information we had and the activities of kids for the time. I think Michelle is missing the point. Although the government has done a number of ridiculous changes to miss the real point of nutrition, the government is also missing the fact that most kids do not get the amount of exercise and activity that kids got in the 60's and 70's. Kids are so much more sedentary now and on top of that, the nutritional guidelines are no longer based upon four food groups from a square, but rather 6, from a pyramid. Clearly, the 60's and 70's produced plenty of soldiers for the Viet Nam draft, so it would seem the most logical perspective would be to eliminate the misnomer introduced through the Reagan years that ketchup is a vegetable, and rather than the government gaining more control; get back to the 4 basic food groups, no breakfast at school, certainly no
$4. something billion dollar dinners, and more activities for young people than strapped into a vehicle and sitting in a school desk all day.

A Tribute to Elizabeth Edwards

Loss of a son. Loss of trust in marriage. Stoic strength. Gracious. A woman, regardless of party lines, we can all admire and many can identify with in some way, but for most of us, not in all ways; thank G~D. She was a type of Jackie Kennedy. The more I read about her, the more I think John Edwards is a bum, a true bum, but that is irrelevant now. The best excuse he could manage with all of his smooth political, legalese was, "she was in remission when I had my affair . . ." Well, then John, the rest of us think, perhaps you should have been making good memories with your wife and family when she was feeling better, eh? I am sorry for her grief in the loss of her son and I'm terribly sorry for the loss her young children will suffer in her death. Naturally, like most of America, I didn't know her personally, but I had seen her and read about her and watched her. I truly liked her style. I admired the way she handled her life stoically without headlines until, considering her public persona, an explanation simply had to be given. I can't help but wonder if the extensive hormone treatments for her menopausal babies could have had anything to do with her developing breast cancer. I mean we really don't know enough about the long term effects of these newly developed treatments and procedures. I couldn't believe as I read the articles about her passing and her funeral, I felt a personal pang of grief. I can't explain it, other than to say, it was like the loss of a friend, either distant or from the past. Elizabeth Edwards wasn't a personal friend and I doubt seriously that I would ever meet her, but it just seems that she's departed too quickly. I'm not second guessing G-D, just noticing someone with a name that everyone recognizes, isn't usually so touchable. Elizabeth Edwards touched many lives and I'm sure many of the social issues she addressed will be affected in a positive way for years to come. Although I'm sure she was concerned about leaving her two young children, I know there had to be a certain anticipation in the hope of seeing the son she had lost, once again.

See Something, Say Something

America, with all the agencies we have to harass us to keep us safe, we are now being advised to be on the look out, ourselves. The campaign for self preservation is officially entitled: "See Something, Say Something;" and so I shall! First, I don't understand why Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security needed Walmart in the act. Why did the super retailer get the only mention? I'm sure there are many businesses that would want their customers to report suspicious situations or persons, but Janet Napolitano singled out Walmart as being concerned about Homeland Security! So, is Walmart now cozying up with government in ways no other retailer can? I'm sure the independents can't afford the price to be mentioned by Homeland Security, not to mention, many have more integrity than to take advantage of Americans in such a way. But what about the other retail chains? Is it a case of integrity, favortism, or lobby? I truly don't think it has anything to actually do with security and safety! I've believed for years that Walmart would usher us into the era of buying and selling according to the will of the beast and this is simply one step closer to confirming that for me. Won't be long til we have to be patted down to enter and leave the malls and SuperCenters. While we are being told we are still a Super Power, let me share this observation, just for what it's worth. We are the biggest consuming nation on the planet, we are over 12 trillion dollars in debt, and that's just what TPTB are telling us, so who knows what the bottom line really is. We appear to be afraid of our own shadow. Our volunteer military is stretched beyond any possible limits of adequacy. We are either afraid to get on an airplane without being stripped of dignity or we are afraid of those that are doing the stripping, but we are clearly afraid. So what about all of this tells any of us we are a Super Power? We are quickly becoming the Continent of Containment. If we listen to Janet and Walmart and become a nation of snitches. "See Something, Say Something" is nothing more than government sanctioned 'snitchery' and 'stool pigeonry.' Who knew, some day tattling would be defined as patriotism? Are we really willing to give up every shred of integrity to have our very own government render us captive for our own safety? Just how far will we go out of fear?

Quarantined Money and Wiki Leaks

Is anyone seeing how ridiculous we are beginning to look? First, more WikiLeaks indicate Saudi is actually supporting the Taliban and al Qaeda. Now, considering that country issued 15 out of 19 Passports for 9/11 terrorists, I must say, I'm not in the least bit surprised. What surprises me, is our government did nothing to bring any justice and doesn't appear to want us to know that! I realize the list of leaks is lengthy, but this is the one that caught my eye before I move on to the next calamity our government has accomplished. The $100 Bills that have been in design for nearly 10 years and began rolling off the presses, well, hold on. About a billion of them, give or take, have errors. That's right, after 10 years of planning, we have misprints. Although that does seem par for the course for our government's money management skills, it caught my attention from another perspective. First, the bills are supposedly being quarantined. How long does anyone think it will be before there are bad bills in circulation? Next, it's a billion bills . . . is there no one watching the process that can unplug a machine? Some bureaucrat just threw the switch and what went to break or vacation? Nobody in our vast government considered running a few test sheets? Next I read that this quarantined cash amounts to about 1/10 of our circulating currency, so get ready for more chips of plastic . . . or worse. I read that is would take 10 years to hand sort all the bad bills from the few good ones, but there is a machine that can do it in about a year. Why doesn't our government use this catastrophe for good? Why not employ about a million unemployed people to sort these bills? Perfect solution, new $100s and job creation, just what our government has promised! I'm not really a conspiranoid, but it is really pretty easy to see our government is doing it's best to keep us from information and while we are in this crazy recession that isn't easing, we'll just get rid of the cash, too. I heard early this morning that the Fed doesn't think our recession will double dip because the housing market and the unemployment is already too low to fall much farther. And here, we were told the recession ended over a year ago. Just what do TPTB really expect us to believe. I will tell you exactly what I believe. WikiLeaks has revealed the incredibly obvious about Saudi and $100B in bad cash is going to have an impact on our buying and selling!

Way to Go!

All this great border patrol has finally accomplished something in Texas. A border patrol agent arrested Willie Nelson for possession of pot. Great! Border patrol can sniff out a few ounces of pot but can't manage to catch any full sized human beings running tons of drugs across the border. What makes this all the more outrageously offensive is the fact that Wille is 77 and still working. Willie Nelson is a senior citizen that is actually working and not bragging about how much he paid in. He's not whining about not getting his COLA. He's not looking for Medicare to fill in his donut hole . . . he's apparently self medicating. What a deal! And Texas wants to stick it to him. While we're in the middle of all this deficit stupidity, this country actually wants to take someone that has a steady job, and support them on tax dollars for two years in the poky. Of course, I'm sure they are already sizing up his belongings and planning to attributing his assets to drugs. Now I'm not from Texas and I can't think like they do there, but I'm guessing his assets have been bought and paid for by concerts and number one hits! Idiots, that's just all I can say! Our country goes out of it's way to look stupid these days. Drug cartels smuggling tons of drugs across our border and killing people and border patrol busts a senior citizen that really is a citizen and a working one at that . . . Why America, why?

Tis the Season

Another year of politically correct celebration! I simply cannot wait. I've already heard a few comments that simply make me say Hummm? I heard on the radio this morning a DJ read some "thought for the day" which stated we should know something about three other religions besides our own beliefs. He then proceeded to share something from his youth. He had asked his parents about a child at school that didn't have a Christmas tree and didn't talk about Santa like Christians. The child was Jewish and so this Christian child's parents were able to share with him a little about Hanukkah. I just can't help but be surprised and saddened, though, that according to Christians, the Christian holiday celebration seems to revolve around a tree and old fat guy that supposedly knows as much as G~D. But their Jesus is the reason for the season! Now most Biblical scholars claim that the Messiah was not born in winter and we can clearly see that the tree described in Jeremiah appears to look alot like a Christmas tree, which was obviously around long before any baby was born in a manger in Bethlehem. I don't understand why Christians would embrace the way of the heathen to celebrate a birthday that didn't really happen at that time and then call it persecution when the rest of us question it. I celebrate Messiah, but I'm uncertain when his actual day of birth was. I'm pretty much with most of the Bible scholars, though, in that I believe it was through the fall holy days. Since his death aligns with Passover, I'm guessing His birth aligns with Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur or a day through Sukkot. At any rate, as the season unfolds, I'm really sure that whenever His birthday was, He's not thrilled that it's being celebrated with materialism, heathen customs and some old fat guy in red whose name contains the same letters as the enemy Messiah came to defeat. Meanwhile, I'm going to celebrate a feast that Messiah celebrated and I would invite all those that follow Him to do the same.

Quietly on the Alaskan Front

Joe Miller isn't graciously conceding at all! He's doing exactly what Al Gore did, only he looks even more ridiculous because it is his so called base that supposedly doesn't believe in this sort of legislative challenge. Well, except, now that it's on the other side of the aisle, there are good and proper reasons for this . . . Which side of the aisle ethics is a lot like right or wrong based upon which end of the stick one ends up holding!
At any rate, Joe's camp says Lisa's people are not presenting the truth. I'm not the legal eagle here, but it would seem, if the "write in" oval has been filled in, it's a certainty the vote does not belong to Joe Miller. Then it's a matter of all illegible handwriting, if there is an obvious "M" & "k" and name ends in "i," the intent is clear. As for the rest, I'm guessing obvious misspellings could be cast aside and Lisa Murkowski would still win. All this whining makes Joe sound like the two Als; Al Gore and Al Franken. I, personally am thankful neither of them are representing me and I put Joe Miller in the same category. I'm guessing, according to the apparent victory by Murkowski, a large number of Alaskans would agree with me about Joe.
Joe Miller needs to realize, just like the democrats taking a beating, sent a message to the White House, Alaska has used the election to send a message to their former governor. Most Alaskans who are "mad as he**" seem to be mad at the leader of the Tea Party. And we are all sick and tired of hearing about upholding the letter of the law when the truth is ridiculously obvious!
Now, clearly the only thing to do that doesn't seem like being a democrat would be to man up, concede, and wish Lisa well.

The Five Stages of Captivity

We have "known" for some time now, there are five stages of grief as depicted by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, and I guess the premise is really similar, but the terms are different.
As Kubler-Ross explained the stages of grief, we have five basic labels for the stages of the loss of a loved one or the diagnosis of a terminal illness. The stages of grief are as follows: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance

In all of this American fear mongering, war mongering, and giving up our way of life, TSA has made it official. We have been ushered into the "safety of captivity," with the USA Patriot Act and Health Care Reform, and with captivity, just like grief, there are also five stages. We watched it unfold as a nation, just this past couple of weeks. Here are the five stages of captivity as explained by another Elizabeth. First there was disbelief that our government would actually impose this and surely someone in authority would step in and rescue us from the TSA, but that didn't happen. Next there was outrage that such a thing could happen in America and Ben Franklin was quoted on blogs across this nation. Then several of us left sarcastic comments on the news articles and late night comedy stepped in and as we've seen before, laughter is quite soothing . . . so then came the compliance. Over 80% of the passengers did not have a problem with this sort of invasive loss of their civil rights. They were willing to sacrifice rights and dignity for a little reassurance, which brought us to the last step today and it will no longer be an issue. Those that have accepted it are actually voicing anger at the non-compliant. That's right, those of us that find this unacceptable have been invited to "not fly." Well, in all fairness, I gave up flying in '04, when I realized my underwires posed a threat to national security, and since the freedom to move about is not one of our Constitutional rights or amendments, I guess I'll just accept Elisabeth Kubler-Ross's last phase of grief; and accept the death of liberty as it was once proclaimed.
When I saw the pictures of airport security in the headlines, I sat sadly and realized, the terrorists really have won. The American culture of freedom is gone.

Happy **** Thanksgiving

I think most of America is anxiously awaiting their travel plans for this Thanksgiving. Frankly as a Native American, I'm not so sure about the way things turn out when you make it comfy for the immigrants, yet I digress. I can't help but wonder if the pilgrims and founding fathers were watching all this hoopti-la today, what they would be thinking. Of course we know that Ben Franklin has already said "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." I can only imagine the thoughts that would go through George Washington's mind, but I'm sure if he were here today to watch us all cowering and submitting, he'd think the bitter cold, endured at Valley Forge was wasted on us. I can't imagine Thomas Jefferson even giving us the time of day. And as we look to this travel nightmare that everyone that has bought a plane ticket must endure, I can't help but wonder just what the Puritans would have to say. Can you imagine those guys with the big hats and big muskets letting some dimwit that is "just following orders" grope about? And what about the "working girls of TSA" feeling up under all those Quaker skirts. Yes, America has certainly progressed . . . I'm proud to say I decided I was finished flying when my underwires posed a "national threat" to air travel safety, several years ago. I remember fondly, receiving real silver ware on European flights and simply walking through and speaking with security in Israel. Israel knows a lot about security and dignity. America appears to know little about either. I'm happy to not be in the fearful throngs this holiday and I truly am sorry for those that are. I'm simply shocked at the number of comments I've made on this blog through the years about TSA, and how many of them are just no longer tongue in cheek. Our American society is starting to seem like a really bad Tech-no Sci-Fi movie. I've concluded that if we are willing to give up this much freedom, Osama bin Laden is probably watching all this in his cave, laughing his butt off and declaring victory. If he is actually the one responsible for 9/11 . . . If bin Laden is responsible for 9/11, then we have him to thank for TSA.
TSA is now Terrorizing Sensible Americans. To be honest, there is a part of me that would like to buy a ticket to somewhere close and just do my part as an American to OPT OUT on Wednesday. And by the way, since TSA and the powers that be have stated they are working on changing some policy, do not, I repeat DO NOT expect it to get better or reclaim any dignity in the mess.

According to TPTB, We Apparently Cannot Have Dignity and Safety

Let's talk airport security. I've been k'vetching and complaining about this for years, and it now looks like several folks have just had enough! So many ideas have run through my mind as I read the comments made by TSA and Homeland Security. And for those Republicans that still insist the USA Patriot Act hasn't infringed upon our freedoms or robbed us of freedom, let me tell them, not only has it infringed upon our freedom, it's also robbed us of our dignity and apparently all sense of logic. Here are a few ideas for those that are traveling through the holidays. First, for those with perfect bodies, put on your best bikini instead of underwear, then a regular ensemble for the day's travel, suit, jeans, whatever. I've even thought of doing it myself, considering my imperfect body, for the shock and awe impact! When you get to the airport an hour early like a good sheep, plan your strategy well. As the move toward embarking takes place, determine just what you will say pleasantly, that will allow you to opt out. Then, once you are in the line that has opted out and you know your sexual groping is imminent, begin disrobing and folding your clothes very carefully and apparently oblivious. Remember, underneath it all, you are acceptable for a day at the beach. It may be chilly, but it is not indecent . . . Then when airport security asks you about private screening, refuse. You will want witnesses. For the sake of sane humanity, do not opt for a private pat-down, a.k.a.: sexual groping in a skimpy bikini. No one will see the ludicrousness if you allow airport security their privacy without accountability.
In reading the commentary on the articles about technical strip searching, one man hoped under all the stress and duress, when the time came for the full body scan or the pat down, he would be able to "rise" to the occasion. Others hoped to make some sort of innuendo that would return or deflect the intimidation presented by airport security. Remember for those of us that saw "When Harry Met Sally," we can always embrace the opportunity . . . to "have what she's having!" The bottom line is this: we have given up our liberty for the presumption of safety and now we have neither. The definitive verdict for me was when the man, Mr. Tyner, could not opt out without incurring invasive intimidation, and then could not opt out without civil suit or federal fine. Clearly our government has run away with authority when a person can face a fine which is criminal and a suit which is civil. The TSA officer that dealt with Mr. Tyner is quoted to have said something about losing some rights when he bought his ticket! It's really over, for all practical purposes; there is no going back. I don't even believe there was an underwear bomb and who knows how many US citizens share my opinion about that. Even if they don't share my opinion about the alleged bomb which just happened to "appear" the day after a suit was filed against the invasiveness of body imaging scanners. That's right! Our freedom, our dignity, and our safety are no longer secure in the hands of our government or our Federal Agency of Transportation & Airport Safety & Security, that's F.A.T.A.S.S. Oh, that those initials would be emblazoned upon their shirts and badges. I wondered what I could come up with for D. U. M. B. Airport Safety & Security, but I'll have to get back to you on that one. Off the top of my head: Dominant & Unaccoutable Militaristic Bureaucrats for . . . Meanwhile, I hope each of us does what we can to express and demonstrate that this security business has simply gone too far and we the people will not stand for it, nor will we be virtually strip searched for it!

Love the Spin, and Hoping for the Best

This blog is obviously not written by a die hard republican, or even a political conservative for that matter, but I have to admit, I've been following the Senate race in Alaska between the two conservative candidates. There are a number of reasons this is important to me. To be honest, I really didn't care in the beginning, except . . . I was curious as to whether or not it really was possible for a write in candidate to win the election. So, if Lisa Murkowski wins, we'll know it is possible, or a least TPTB want us to believe that! I officially entered the Murkowski camp, not when I watched Joe Miller act like Al Gore, but when I heard the Joe Miller, Sarah Palin fan club explain to me how this was so different from Al Gore in 2000. That's when I became a true supporter of the Murkowski campaign. Not that it matters, I don't live in Alaska, but it's done my heart good to watch. First the official write-in ballot counting didn't begin until November 10, and by noon Joe Miller had filed something to reject some ballots. Handwriting arguments sounded a lot like pregnant chad to me! Considering there are many Native American or Eskimos in Alaska that truly could be disenfranchised by handwriting and language issues, it seemed all the more petty that he would start the day looking for loopholes and technicalities. It was entirely too funny to hear the very same people that just loathed Al Gore and his whining, defend this guy. I was even asked if I didn't think Al Gore was wrong in what he did. I said, of course Al Gore was wrong, and so is Joe Miller. They just look, both of them, like sore losers. American politics is truly nothing but spin and right or wrong depends upon which side of the aisle your candidate sits and which end of the stick they are holding at the end of the contest! Spin . . . gotta love it. But, to my cynical delight, it looks like for now, the system is still working. It is possible to run a write in campaign. Hopefully Joe Miller will "man up" as Sara P. says, and congratulate the winner.

American Politics

Elections seem to bring out the best or worst, or I guess, the "real" in people. They stand up for what they believe and are willing to argue for their candidate or at least against "the other" guy. Running for office is stressful! I only ran for a county level office and I learned more than I ever wanted to know about politics and people. I certainly found out who my friends were, and discovered I had a few anonymous fans that I didn't know. I've been amazed at the blindness in politics, and I'm not talking about the politicians. It's just flabbergasting to see and hear people talk about a particular candidate or party and the same trait or event is viewed completely different based upon the favor of the party and person. I find it interesting that both sides of the aisle now have a favorite "quitter." Our President didn't finish his term in the Senate to become President and Sarah P. quit being governor to "be a famous tea partier." Now, to hear those Sarah P. fans, President Obama never had a real job and quit everything to move on to bigger things. Which is true. To hear the Obama fans, who of course, are no fan of Sarah P. she's just an attention starved quitter. Which from my perspective, also appears to be true. So, can both sides be right? When it comes to manipulating, maneuvering politicians, I have a terrible time telling them apart, other than the attitude of their fan clubs against the other party. So, now that we're again hoping for change, I'm guessing it will be more of the same. I have noticed that both sides seem to be increasing in their anger for the other side, though . . . not the change I was hoping for.

Excited, Angry, Proud

What great adjectives to use in referring to voters, today! Are we supposed to be excited because the aristocracy is allowing we peasants to participate in the Sock Puppet Theatre, by casting our ballot? Excited, like the circus is coming to town? Excited, because this is our way of being heard in Washington? Excited, because we are once again, hoping for change? How much change can one hope for, if we vote back in the last people that made us angry? Which brings me to the next adjective, angry. I'm not happy with the way our government runs, but I don't think angry describes it either. I'm not a die hard fan of either party and I think you'd have to be in a coma to not see that the Tea Party is nothing more than the angry, desperate fringe of the GOP. Angry fringe is just not something I want to deal with or be a part of. Now, as to proud. You'd think a nation that keeps talking about G~D would get a clue as to what HE says about being proud. So, if excited, angry, and proud are the attitude adjectives for election day, things really won't get any better!

Corrections!

Usually corrections don't appear in the same place of prominence that the error occurred, but CoP is different. A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that we have taught our young people debt is part of the process of accomplishment . . . and many American children have also learned that bankruptcy is a "new beginning," but student loans cannot be absolved in bankruptcy. Well, I mentioned a statistic that was wrong. I believe I stated that 37% of college graduates return to their parent's home after graduation. while looking for that great career their college degree affords them. I was wrong, the figure isn't 37%, it's 85%! And it isn't just for the summer while they are sending out resumes. The article I read said the average time back home was a year and a half. So, parents of college students, just when you thought Obamacare had you financially trapped for insurance until your college student is 26, fear not, you'll be able to supervise their health and habits because they'll still be living at home, anyway. On the bright side, this should alleviate any concerns you may have about experiencing empty nest syndrome. Now, the other correction is sort of startling. I didn't realize in all the years of Halloween horror, that the only two documented cases of children being poisoned by candy were actually done by family members. One was a horrible deal involving a little girl's father and the other was a little boy that got into a family member's drug stash and the family member, then to avoid prosecution for the drug, sprinkled it on the already deceased child's candy. So, has the media simply hyped this up to raise the fear factor in Halloween? I don't know, but the article was thought provoking if not compelling. Do we just feel like better people if we fear the imagined and protect our children, while casting them out in darkness to celebrate demons and witches? Now that whole idea could use some correction!

What Our Kids are Learning

I'm amazed at how unprepared our young people are to deal with the real world. It wasn't so very long ago that when someone graduated from high school, they were not only anxious to be independent, they were ready to be independent. And if some sort of event took place before graduation, they could roll up their sleeves, dig in their heels and grow up quickly. We've all read about young teenage boys whose father died when they were in school and these young teens became the bread winner. Young women that became mothers before they got out of high school not only cleaned their own room, but learned to clean a house and take care of a baby. So, with more education, especially in regard to more "family oriented" classes, why are they so unprepared. As a baby boomer, I'm thinking the parenting as something to do with it. It seems the boomers never did attain their right of passage as a generation, and I think we just kept our kids younger than us, which has turned out to be not so beneficial for anyone under 65. Now that I think about it, only those over 65 have been adults since they graduated high school, got married, had a baby, or went in the service, which ever came first. I've watched a generation of boys that grew up so unmotivated, they didn't care if they got a driver's license, but they expect their freedom. And I've watched a generation of girls grow up that really think their parents will provide for life, but they will make their own decisions. And the latest stats I've read, now that the President says everyone is a child on their parents health insurance plans til they are 26, these same young people are going to college, of course, on student loans, and I read that 37% will move back home after college to pay the debt down,because the concept of living at home or an aunt's or grandparents and attending community college is unthinkable. Wow! In two generations, we've gone from people being independent adults at 18 to dependent kids in their cluttered rooms, telling their parents what new toy they want next at 25+. Our kids seem to have learned debt and responsibility do not go hand in hand. And apparently, higher learning serves to cement that concept. I guess, if we boomers couldn't do any better that this, we have it coming.

Doctors and Lawyers

I truly don't have much respect for either profession, but I guess when it comes down to it, more people trust doctors than lawyers. I'm not really sure why that is, as both professions charge a fortune when a person is really grasping for answers and usually not in their best place of decision making or income security. So with that being said, I tripped over a bit of interesting information the other day in my work. I answer questions at AllExperts and offer ministerial counseling through my website, as well as participate in various forums which cover a vast number of topics and threads, so there is information out there for all of us. The one situation I just had to mention is in regard to custody rights and child support. I absolutely support men's rights when it comes to their children or in society in general for that matter. It's as if the hard working guys that really try; get the short end of the stick and the "loser, user, deadbeats" get the breaks. I've noticed that with women, too, though. We've all watched the "mousy damsel in distress" suck the life blood out of everybody, and we know the screeching harpy will get her way just to not have to listen to her, but the woman that is just doing the best she can and attempting to enjoy a few simple things in life along the way, usually gets the shoddiest treatment. Well, to my point, finally. I actually became aware of an attorney that will literally fight for the "loser, user, deadbeat" and arrogantly ask that the "loser, user, deadbeat" be awarded for his lack of contribution by the very woman that supported his worthless hind-end before their divorce. This attorney will actually fight to take the food out of the mouths of children just to walk out of the courtroom a winner for his loser, client. This attorney actually asked for his fee to be paid by the other party, which only makes sense, since it must have been obvious his client wouldn't pay. If I had not seen the decision myself, I would have never thought such a thing could happen. I know I wouldn't trust a doctor or lawyer any farther than I could thrown one, but I had no idea the depth of low for which someone would strive.

Don't Confuse Me With the Facts . . .

Used to be a statement I made in referring to the enthusiastic mind set of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck fanatics, but things seem to have shifted and now the President is encouraging his followers to not allow themselves to be burdened with the facts that say his administration is failing, or is essentially: a bust! I've noticed once we Americans make up our minds about something or get sucked into a particular ideology, we simply shut down on taking in any more information. I got into a discussion with a die hard tea partier not long ago and before it was all said and done, I simply stated, "My mind is closed on the subject." It was amazing, the person simply stopped their political tirade. Something about the human brain shuts down when we know, nobody is listening. I do not consider many of today's political discussions to actually be an exchange of ideas or facts, just opposite opinions in denunciation of those on the "other side" of the aisle. I asked another person recently, if Glenn Beck was going to replace Billy Graham as America's pastor. As someone that has a talk radio show, I just think bantering on and on about the other side being wrong only incites those that choose to be incited. It's not a matter of informing, and then hoping people will make an informed decision. Some of these talk radio hosts repeat the same sound byte, with their own commentary and literally get their listeners up in some sort of lathered political frenzy. I used to try to talk reason, but there just is none. And if you offer facts, they will simply say, "Well, I don't know." That's right if their particular voices of influence haven't said it, it's as if it has no meaning or existence. You know, it really hasn't required hours of political talk radio to see that our economy is still tanked and President Obama is flailing. It's a shame the concept of logic and facts have gone that way.

The Lighter Side of Politics

I call it the lighter side, because I simply cannot take Christine O'Donnell seriously. She does have a look of being a "Sarahbot" which is playing well, but I remember her back in the late 90's on Bill Maher's "Politically Incorrect." She just seemed like an attention starved dim-wit, although she and Bill had a sort of "sizzling rivalry" that seemed rather lusty. The reason for addressing her campaign in the blog, however; isn't about her antics of yesteryear, it's about her would be straightforwardness. Okay, she's not a witch, but she dabbled in witchcraft, so as Bible believer, I'd like to hear her testimony regarding her deliverance . . . rather than her anti-sex and anti-abortion sound bytes. Next, if I lived in Delaware, I would not want her anywhere near any budgetary considerations, the woman can't add! I included the quote that I will address below.

Those are usually not the first words spoken by a political candidate in their first general election campaign commercial.

"I haven't been embarrassed. And I'm not saying that I'm proud," O'Donnell told CNN's Jim Acosta last week. "I've matured in my faith. I've matured in my policies. Today you have a forty something woman running for office. Not a 20 year old. So that's a big difference."


I personally saw her on the panel talking with Bill Maher in the late 90's and I checked every source I could find. I could not find any of his shows that featured Christine O'Donnell before 1997, which was only 13 years ago. Many of her comments regarding years of accomplishment or whatever seem to later be amiss. Well, she now says she is 41. For the record 41-13 = 28. There is a huge difference between 28 and the age 20, which she claimed. There has not been 20+ years of maturity. And most of the appearances I saw were later on the show, making her 30 or more, so the time frame would be closer to 10 years or half of what she's saying in this interview. I think we've had enough politicians on every level that blur the difference with numbers. It's time to have some politicians that stand up and own their lives and learn to count. Someone that has virtually made her fame by claiming religious activism needs to be forthight with the truth, with time and of sharing their own deliverance testimony, not running to make decisions for others.

I'm quite sure that the Senate sees to their own needs ahead of we the people. I'm quite sure most politicians do, but in the wake of financial crisis and health care reform, I was less than impressed with the event. As I Googled the event, I happened upon some more interesting information. All of the other sources in the list were simply posting and commenting about this one single article. I couldn't find a thing on the subject on any other national news source. That got me thinking even more about not just our politics, but questioning what we really do know and what it being embellished or filtered. Obviously, I don't have a real good answer to that one yet . . .
But I will say this. If the Senate, which already has wonderful health care and great salaries is spending our tax dollars this way, it's reprehensible. If this has gone on and only one news source reported it, also reprehensible. If the report has any embellishment to it, again, reprehensible.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to actually know the news is the news, just the news, nothing but the news, and wouldn't it be wonderful to know our Senate wasn't spending the taxpayer's money, foolishly?

I Hope this Makes it All Over the Country

I don't really know how to start a grass roots movement and I'm not the most proficient in organizing groups, but yesterday's Supreme Court case has me on a mission. I'm torn between being sick and tired of people that use religion or politics to be mean and I don't want our government to take away or amend the 1st Amendment for our own protection. As most everyone in the country is aware, Fred Phelps and his family claim to be a church with a message. Well, it's certainly a message of hate, but it's a bit trickier than that. By people trying to quiet Fred Phelps and his family, we are really at a point of realizing our own right to assemble, speak freely and keep Congress from making laws regarding religion could be in jeopardy with this one person. It is my humble opinion that the very force of hell could use Fred to cause laws to change that would quiet the rest of us, as well. As much as my heart hurts for these grieving families, we can't let this happen. Here is what I propose.
In order to truly honor our troops, when there is a fallen soldier in your community even if you never met the person, and don't know the family, go stand in the gap between this group and the grieving family. The Patriot Riders have done this in many places throughout the country, as a group and my husband and I have done it, simply as concerned citizens. The protesters have to remain at a certain distance and the rest of the general public can attend the service, or as we have opted, simply stand on the sidewalk between the funeral home and the protesters. Granted, we may not overshadow Fred and company, but it does let the fallen soldier's family know somebody cares. Considering the price the soldier paid and the burden of grief their family will bear, a few hours out of a single day is not that great of price, to honor our troops and defend our freedom.

A Funny Thing About Power

I farm organically, as I'm sure I've mentioned on many occasions. I made a point of stopping by our Electric Co-op a few months ago to let them know that we had moved and I still wanted the same arrangements we'd had before. No spraying. If a tree is gaining height toward the power lines, they could top it, but no spraying, please. It worked great at the old place, but this time I wanted to make sure they understood the boundaries as I have fruit trees and fruit vines growing, not to mention spraying wild cherry trees and leaving the dying leaves will kill my livestock if they eat it. I was told they always sent letters before spraying and I could contact them then. It wasn't two months, we got a letter, so I called. They told me they would put me on their list. Then one afternoon a couple of young men showed up on the place and informed me they would be coming around spraying and understood that I didn't want the place sprayed. Then they proceeded to ask me why. Well, my first thought was, because that's what I said I wanted and I own the land, not to mention I'm the tax payer, that's why I want it. But instead I explained to them about my organic herd and all the lovely things growing along the lane. I immediately missed the other guy that I had dealt with. Oh, that's not to say these guys were rude or anything, they were friendly enough, but . . . I discerned that in their case common sense would take a back seat to power and authority. Immediately I knew I should have made one more phone call. My husband noticed that all the foliage was turning brown through the timber. Sure enough, they'd sprayed. When I called to complain, the same guy showed up later that day to explain to me, that they had been very careful to spray on the other side of the fence. I reminded him that the poles were on our side, so why spray. He then proceeded to tell me that I'd eventually have to deal with the fact that they would have to spray my blackberries, because they didn't want them getting up in the power lines. Exasperated, I exclaimed, "Really . . . I've never seen a blackberry plant get that tall!" With that he was finished. I told him and I mentioned the name of the conversation I had had with the previous gentleman and I would be having another with him. It then dawned on me, the power company will operate in full power and at the rate they are going, we will be losing much of our natural providers of anti-oxidants. The power company has already killed three of the elderberry patches I've gone to for 5 years. To provide our conveniences, they will kill everything on the ground, they have the authority to exercise their power. Besides, after they spray, what can be done?

Why Do Pro-Lifers Focus on Death?

I am beginning to find the pro-life movement disgusting. Not that I am changing my views about life in the womb, I am just wearied by the so called pro-life methods. First, G~D didn't separate life and choice, politics has done that. G~D's Word says, "Choose Life that you and your children may life." See, choice and life in the same sentence . . . Who knew that was even possible? But what is really disgusting me is all the death talk in the name of pro-life. I watched a youtube video that was heart wrenchingly disgusting after it began with a sweet little message to "all women that have had an abortion." I was just mortified with what followed. I remember last year at the County Fair, the "abortion museum" presented on behalf of the pro-life movement. I, personally, know of a young lady that was attending religious college and she was literally expelled for tearing down a poster of a dismembered fetus. She said it was just horrible to look at day after day in the class room. So, she got in trouble for destroying the poster and kicked out of class. What's with pro-life people and their obsession to be deathly offensive? I realize the most vocal pro-lifers are really nothing more than anti-choice in all of life. I would never encourage anyone to think abortion is an option, but then what does society do with unwanted children? Adoption is scary, too, because enough money to hire an attorney doesn't insure good parents. I've seen cases of adoption, where the "new" simply wore off. And adopted kids are reminded their entire life that they are adopted. I've heard people talk about so and so and they are 40 years old while still referring to their parents adopting them. Our society just can't seem to take hold of choosing life and enjoying it. But I'm real tired of hearing the same old horror stories about abortion through every campaign season.

Burning and Banning Books

The Pentagon and military, our Pentagon and military seem to not see the irony in their duty to protect freedom and their determination to spend our tax money to destroy books. They actually bought them to destroy them. I've already mentioned earlier about the Bible burning situation in Afghanistan last year and now we read about another situation. Ironically, this is "banned book week." I believe it's supposed to inspire us to read books that have been banned for one reason or another. There are books on that list that was required reading when I was in school, but that's an issue for another blog. I did appreciate the perfect irony in one title on the list. "Fahrenheit 451" has made the list. That's the book that was written about burning books. Wonder if the Pentagon has a copy of that . . . If our military has openly destroyed two different books on two different occasions, for, of course, very good reasons, what else is being destroyed that isn't making headlines?
I think we better take note of things. Book burning is not all that is going on in our presumptuously superior civilization.
"Just following orders" has become pretty ordinary in our freedom loving republic . . . and nobody seemed to notice. We have an entire military that just follows orders, we have law enforcement that operates all together in a whole new way, that claims to just follow orders. Nurses that just follow the doctor's orders or the facility's regulations. Patients that really just come across as undignified boobs in following doctor's orders. Teachers that supposedly have their hands tied from higher up. Churches, entire congregations that "will just follow orders" from their celebrity mega pastor.
We have teachers that do not want to be tested, nurses that do not want to follow a doctor's orders for their own health, cops that do not want to be taped or recorded, yet all these same people want the authority that goes with their position. What's wrong with this picture? It seems the one common thread in all of this, is we the people just keep accepting the decisions that are made for us, for our own good.

School Daze

While the heat intensifies between the parties, we need to take note of what our President mentions casually, because it will be law in a matter of months, if he has his way, and so far, he seems to be getting his way. Remember, in his own words a quote, "I won!" He's talking about lengthening the school year for those attending public school and firing the bad teachers, because we are globally behind. Then I read some of the comments regarding this suggestion, and basically many people already agree that this is needed. I see a different handwriting on the wall. I see parents that are having difficulties making ends meet in this economy will see less expense for child care, more structure for their kids, and certainly the issue of "we're too old for a babysitter" will become a non-issue. And although at the surface, this may appear to be a viable solution, I see a real loss of family. A definite distinction in social classes in that those in private school will still be able to have their summers. A statement our President made early in his presidency regarding our society would also be officially confirmed, in that we will no longer be an agrarian society, at least the legal citizens. I also see a great deal of programming time for the kids rather than actually learning. The teachers now say that two months off means two months of review time when the new school year begins. Well, I noticed the statement that said "two months off" so the summer vacation has already been officially shortened without much fanfare, and now we are looking at school year round. Well, Mr. President, I think kids need a certain amount of time to simply be kids. They need to have summer time fun and if the things being taught are so easily forgotten, maybe an overhaul of content and curriculum is what is needed, not an expanse of time to learn it. When summer vacation and the beginning of every new school year with a report entitled, "What I did this summer," is replaced with year round programming, what will the benefit truly be? When this is enacted what happens to the things that are learned through life's experience? What happens to little boy's little league? What happens to scout camp? What happens to Vacation Bible School? What happens to afternoons at the swimming pool or swimming hole? What happens to family vacations? What happens to summer at grandma's? What happens to County Fairs? What happens to the opportunity to get some Vitamin D, naturally? What happens when you've programmed an entire new generation of worker bees that are taught to walk in lockstep, year round? What happens when our youth are programmed day in and day out year round, to simply follow orders? What happens when there is no time to climb trees and contemplate life from the perspective of summertime in the great outdoors?

In Regard to Burning Holy Books

I have to be honest. When I first read about the preacher in Florida, I figured, "another Fred Phelps," but I've since rethought my first impression. I do believe Dr. Jones has lost what should be a true focus of ministry. He, like so many in this country are all about what they are against. I also have been burdened under the cares of the world and know it's easy to begin focusing on the evil, but Messiah said to proclaim the good news. He didn't tell anyone to preach against the bad news, although repentance was always recommended. Those that claim to follow him, must sound a warning if given that task, but to oppress an oppressor or declare war on warmongers, is not in the job description of those that adhere to the teachings of Messiah Y'hshuah, a.k.a. the Son of G~D. Oh, I do think Dr. Jones needs to get back to the good news rather than proclaiming the evil of bad news, but I'm not his judge. What I did learn from the attention that went his way was this. Anyone that is outside mainstream American Christianity pretty much gets labelled a nut or a cult by mainstream America, Christianity included. I also noticed the bill by the Police Department and the cancellation of his insurance, to me, borders on persecution. I have no idea where he stands on eternal issues, but I do know he ruffled the wrong political feathers and they will make sure he pays. Thank G~D, it didn't turn into the FLDS situation a couple of years ago or Waco or Ruby Ridge. Right or wrong, these people do stand up for their beliefs which is why I think mainstream and certainly the government gets so aggressive. Now, I did do a bit more research and I happened on to something pretty unnerving. While our politicians are "preaching" against burning a holy book, and our nation's "tolerant" are lambasting the idea of book burning, the US Military burned Bibles in Afghanistan, because young soldier's church sent them to him in the native language to pass out. Seems our military has rules of engagement that are basically as follows. In war, we can kill 'em, but we can't share the good news. I don't know why the military refused to send them back with explanation or why they didn't think the young soldier would refrain from handing them out, when told not to. I mean doesn't a soldier "just follow orders?" At any rate, it would appear that our government finds it acceptable to burn some holy books under some circumstances. I, personally, believe this is why the war ramped up in Afghanistan last year and now appears to be impossible to win or withdraw.

"A" for Effort

I remember in school when we were taught there was no "A" for Effort, because in the work force there is no "A" for Effort so we needed to learn what was needed for the real world. Well, now that we have technology, that has changed. All someone has to do is tweet about doing something on the internet, and it influences events, supposedly around the world. Right or wrong, the effort can get maximum returns without actually doing whatever . . . Another "A" for Effort involves cell phones. I actually know people that are so popular, their voice mail gets full, or so techno challenged, they don't know how to delete their messages. And we all know people that don't return calls. I think the one truly great thing about a cell phone is the call record. You know, the list of calls: missed, received, and dialed. I love it. Now, I can call someone and if they don't answer, no problem, they know I called. If they don't call me back, no problem, we both know they know I called. When I had a land line, I never bothered with caller ID, but everyone I knew had it, but without truly understanding it, I wasn't sure . . . but now that cell phones do everything but pop your pop corn, I can simply call someone, not worry about a message, and if I hear back or not, I know they know I called. I call that an "A" for Effort!

The Show Must Go On

As the mid-term election campaigns ramp up and gain momentum, there are other things going on that just might be of interest. Yesterday, that's right, Sunday, a decision was made supposedly in regard to a safety net for a "world economy." Something about more power to the world bank. I heard this as the alarm was coming on this morning and only once, then mention of it on some financial show, and then I searched the online news sites and came up with zilch. So, are TPTB meeting on Sunday and making decision toward world domination? I would guess, yes. I've mentioned how different this blogging is now that the administrations have changed and I read an article that stated a 17 year old sent an inappropriate e-mail to the White House, not threatening, just inappropriate. The results. He's been invited to leave the country and forbidden to ever visit again. I mean really. The kid used a word that was certainly less than fit for polite society, but to be kicked out of this country for something so outlandishly minor, I find to be just one more reflection of the administration's seriousness to control it all! I'm not sure what's next on the world stage for those that are presently making all these decisions, but I do so wish we actually had a choice to make at election time and could institute our own term limits. I don't yet know what the deal is with our money, on a world wide basis to be controlled, but then we don't yet know what's coming down the pike in regard to the "fullness" of our health care bill, either. Between the world bank, the world health organization, and G8 or G20 or whatever, I'm thinking the next decade is going to redefine the word CHANGE.

It is not abortion that will bring judgment on this nation, nor is it homosexuality. Although G~D is very clear in Scripture where HE stands on many of our moral debates, it is not the sin of unbelievers that will bring this nation down. It is the mixing of holy with profane by those professing to know and serve HIM, that will destroy America. It is not Muslims that will bring judgment on this country, it is G~D. Politicizing Rosh Hashanah to “make” it coincide with 9/11 is not pleasing to our G~D. Taking specific commands in Scripture and performing them at will and at whim is mockery. G~D is very specific as to when the shofar is to be blown in regard to HIS days, times and purpose. When our own military can burn Bibles in another land, but a minister is admonished by the government in America, we have missed the mark of the High calling. I, personally, do not believe abortion is a tool for birth control and I never met a gay person that was truly happy in their lifestyle, and I don’t condone the burning of books, but this is America and by every headline I read, there is still supposed to be the freedom to choose to live according to our own beliefs or according to the Word of G~D. If Sabbath is disregarded to “observe” 9/11 and Rosh Hashanah is arbitrarily celebrated to coincide, then it is the religious patriots that are bringing the judgment to America. G~D may in fact, as HE has throughout Scripture with Israel, use the enemies of America to execute the judgment.

Revelation Knowledge

Remember back in time when an American could disagree or even make fun of our president without being considered, racist, intolerant, or closed minded. As a matter of fact, it used to be considered open minded to challenge the "establishment!" Well that was a different America, and with that, I'm finding my blogging to be a bit more difficult. I don't like what's going on now, any more than I did in 2003 or 2006, but G.W. was a better sport about life or his supporters appreciated being persecuted or something. Something has changed and this wasn't the change I thought was promised. The transparency has turned into "in your face." The concept of listening to the people was apparently discontinued after Nov. 2008. It's just not the same to even try to challenge a good discussion, it's so partisanly divided. At least there used to be a few of us independents in the middle, but now the so called independents are clear out on the fringes of the wings and I just can't get that wingy about our politics. I think there are basically four groups of Americans, well, maybe five, but since Torah says there are four kinds of people and G~D calls HIS people sheep, I guess we have four kinds of sheep. There are the dedicated partisan sheep which make up two flocks and they pretty much always flock along party lines. These two flocks are basically defined and divided by their money. There are the hard working, but not usually highest earning group that tends to vote democratic. Then there are the higher earning, usually less community minded flock that tends to vote republican. These two groups usually flock amongst their own kind. Then there is the 3rd type of sheep which tends to be so extreme in their views that they sound exclusive and uninviting to those of us that aren't bright enough to see things the way they tell us it is, and although they do not want their rights tampered with by "the other" side, they are willing to give up rights to take them away from others! Interestingly they can get along for their purpose. Then there are the small flock that really think the solution is beyond politics and basically beyond the aspirations of humanity, and not looking for a leader or a savior for their group. There's our four kinds of sheep, but I almost considered referring to five, but that wouldn't have aligned with Scripture. Now I know why . . . the so called leaders themselves of any of these groups are not sheep, but rather wolves in sheep's clothing.

Let's Just Recall Apple Pie and Be Done With It

Roger Clemens facing charges for lying to Congress. Considering that our Congress is a collection of politicians, that's sort of the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it? Who in the world do these people think they are, to tell someone else, they can't lie? Isn't lying what Martha Stewart went to jail for? Sending liars to jail? What will become of our political campaign season? Besides, with a bad economy and uproar in the Middle East, not to mention the Gulf and BP, doesn't Congress have anything else to do? All this hou-ha over baseball always makes me think of the big cocaine mess in the 80's, Pete Rose, the strike, and Barry Bonds . . . With the overpaid athletes and tanking economy, the average dad can't afford to take his son to a ball game, anyway. I'm at the point of just coming out and asking, when it comes to baseball, "Who cares?" It hasn't been the sport of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Hank Aaron for years. So, here's what I recommend to Congress. In all the food mess, let's rethink our baseball and apple pie image of ourselves and get real about representing "we the people." We'll worry about our own entertainment and dessert and these men that cheat with physical enhancement, will pay a greater price than Congress can set forth, anyway. Meanwhile, it's election season, Congress, do something besides make promises you don't intend to keep. Even though you may call it campaigning, we the people call it lying!

Dumb and Pretty . . . Pretty Dumb

It seems in our society that looks and lack of brains tend to be associated and usually with females. I could present a current list, but that would take away from my point. The point is, looks and lack of intelligence is not just a trait of the female gender. I was absolutely underwhelmed when I read of Brad Pitt's latest political comment. As a staunch progressive, he's been vocal against the death penalty and although I do not consider myself to be a progressive, but for religious reasons, I oppose the death penalty also. Brad has now apparently changed his view. Due to the long term potential damage, the mess of BP in the Gulf should be dealt with with the death penalty. Brad, please! You're not cute enough to be that dumb! Nobody is! But I do appreciate knowing it's not exclusively reserved for the feminine gender.

Dumbest Article Ever

A year's worth of research: http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/08/25/nielsen.phone.use/index.html?hpt=T2 . . . really? Women more than men? Blacks and Hispanic more than whites? Teens do the most texting? What indepth info! It took a year for them to arrive at this information? I'd love to know how many staff members they had on this project and what the total funding amounted to. I'm not a scientist, nor am I an investigative journalist, but I truly think I could have come up with this same information in much less time than a year. Now, I wouldn't have had the racial differences down to the minutes, but is there anyone that doesn't know women are on the phone more than men? Is there anyone that hasn't watched a woman with a cell phone in one hand, a cigarette in the other, and wondered how she was driving her SUV? Men don't multi-task when it involves the phone, so if they are going to be participating in anything else, they have to get off the phone. This took research, really? Now, as to teens doing the most texting. Are you not simply dazzled by the brilliance of this research? Who has the audacity to print this like it's actually news! Apparently that answer would be www.cnn.com. Well, what a lovely piece of journalism. I know we can all rest, knowing, the research has been done and is now stated, fact.

Let Them Have it Their Way

Racial issues in nursing homes. Nurses determining who can decide for themselves and who deserves to have their choices made for them . . . And now to read that certain people can actually have it in their records that they do not want care provided by those of a specific ethnicity. The article I read was about a white woman that didn't want care from any black care givers. Is that not crazy or what? So, if she falls and a person of color walks by, I'm sure that's unacceptable, yet if they attempt to help her, then what . . . Do they have to listen to her racial epithets while they put their own health at risk trying to help her? I guess it's good to know how someone feels, but do they really have the right to impose their views on others? I, personally, wouldn't want to be cared for by anyone in the health care profession, and since I have that prejudice, it would be best if I not go and expect care, right! Now, I didn't delve further to see if the preferences were allowed to self-providers, as opposed to those receiving financial aid, but I still find the premise, offensive. These old people have already had how many years, their way, with their attitudes, and their money? I say, if you don't want the care that's offered, go home and have your family cater to you. See how long that lasts.

Words of Wisdom Two Years Late . . .

"The truth is, it's going to take a few years to fully dig ourselves out of this recession. It's going to take time to bring back 8 million jobs," the president said Tuesday while campaigning for Democratic candidates in Seattle. "Anybody who tells you otherwise is just looking for your vote."

Well, then, now that he's had the job for over a year and a half, President Obama doesn't find it quite as quick and easy as Candidate Obama promised . . . but then I think he summed that up well for us in this paragraph. I'm far from being a republican, and I'm not wearing tea bags on my head and singing the Star Spangled Banner all day, but usually when all the campaign promises have gone by the way side, the mid-term elections bring change, and after all, Candidate Obama did promise change. Maybe it's not the one he had in mind, but I do think it's probably one change that is doable quicker than a few years. And considering he's not just stumping but fund raising, I think I'm ready to see what other change may be on the horizon. So far all this change and recovery has me saving my change and glad I'm working.

It's Only Money!

We used to hear that saying quite a bit, but now it needs to be amended. I guess it's "only credit now" so we'll just keep spending. I've been a bit out of sorts over the stimulus checks and for that matter all the social security collectors. The previous generations have all held to the notion that "they paid into it." Well, no wonder they consider the math we learned to be "modern." They refuse to deal with a variable, like paying 4 or 5% into the system for 30 years doesn't equal drawing 100% out of the system for another 30 years. See, even modern math can't make that work out. Then when I heard someone with money of the younger collectors make the statement that the wealthy didn't need to collect, but he was "cashing in on social security." See he doesn't think he paid in all he plans to collect, he's cashing in. Now, it's slated to operate in the red this year with more being paid out than collected, but I think the rest of us need to take a different perspective, otherwise it's just going to make us mad. So, here's the different perspective. Our nation has been running for several years now with young women just now entering the work force that basically received higher education, child care, and health care on the government's dime, anyway, so as Americans, some of us got "ours" on the front end of their work career. Then there's always been the group that do what we want, spend what we want and file bankruptcy, so basically, another group that gets what's coming, a little early, or at least gets a break from paying piper or fiddler or whatever. Then of course, there is the fact that a huge percentage of the work force actually works for some level of government, anyway, so that group is already collecting on what is being collected. It's getting clearer and clearer that this economy just can't hold up to all the demands, but the way we operate, there isn't just one group to blame. It would seem most of us at some point are going to get "ours," it's just a different times of life. After all, it's fleeting, it's only money!

Just a Curious Idea . . .

I can't help but wonder about the economy. If it's improving, why so many articles on penny pinching? If the unemployment statistics are lower, why so many pieces written on starting your own business instead of job hunting? Actually I do know why the unemployment figures are dropping. Many people have been unemployed so long, they are no longer eligible for benefits. The reality is, "they" whoever "they" are, are putting out some propaganda that we the people are supposed to be buying! I guess if we middle class hard working consumers buy "their" propaganda, that will somehow get the economy moving. The only thing I can think of to do with the spin that "it's getting better," is fertilize my garden. I do smell a rat in this deal, I just can't decide where it is. I know we are supposed to be believing what is being said, in order for "we the people" to resolve this crisis through spending and credit and dropping our own standard of living, without disturbing the lifestyle of the politicians and pundits; i.e., the aristocrats of our society. I'm sure, once we common folks accept our new standard of living, and adjust to a lesser status in our country, "they" will tell us, the economy has recovered . . . I believe this is our opportunity to tune "them" out and replace our lavish materialism with spiritual reality! That is something "they" cannot control, legislate, or take away.

Crazy Solutions

The chemicals they put on the oil is no more toxic than the oil. Isn't that just great? I remember the Exxon Valdez was a mess for it seemed ever and now I read a headline that says most of the oil is gone from the Gulf. Something about some microbes that eat the oil. Wonder what these microbes do when they are fat and full of oil, not to mention nearly infinite in number. Sounds like a plague in the making to me. Health care reform is taking the control of health care away from doctors and insurance companies and giving it to our government that can't get anything done in a timely manner. Isn't it great that ultimately a government bureaucracy will be in charge of urgent life and death decisions? Not that I would trust a doctor or an insurance company, but is there anyone that trusts a politician? In this economy, people are actually being warned about credit and loans . . . because in this economy they still need a WARNING! I am absolutely amazed daily at the ridiculous things I read or hear that someone is buying into and going along with. Wow, if Daniel and his 3 buddies had been so compliant, they'd have never made the Book! The Powers that Be keep coming up with crazy solutions, because we the people keep thinking we need more and more and more! The more we think we need, the more dependent upon The Powers we will become and The Powers appear to have an endless supply of crazy solutions!

From an Industrialized to an Institutionalized Nation

Our nation is not on a slippery slope, we are basically just wallowing in the mudhole near the end of the slippery slope. The only room to fall to hit bottom, now, is just sinking to the bottom of the mudhole. As a grandma, I am disgusted with what some school districts have done to the summer! First, let me give a bit of history. I loved school, I cried the last day of school every year, which was always before Memorial Day, and I started the "going back to school countdown" in August, even though the school year did not begin until after Labor Day. Well, then by the time my daughter was in school, they had made Memorial Day the last Monday in May, rather than the 31st, so the kids sometimes had to return to school for a few days after Memorial Day, and since that went without much of an argument, the first day of school got moved up to the last week of August. I've said all that to say this! That was then and this is now . . . Now, the school year is often lasting until early June while the school year begins in mid August. The kids are doing well if they actually have more than two months summer vacation! And if that isn't intrusively regimented enough, the school registration, back to school nights, etc. begin two weeks before school actually starts. Let's not omit for their safety, picture ID tags. School has gone from educating to programming, and now it would appear 3 months break allows too much time for free thinking and physical activity. As the jobs disappear and the time in school increases, just what are our kids being prepared for? I'm not sure, but I do know they will be prepared to live life en mass and depersonalized.

Priorities

This is about the longest I've ever gone between blogs since I began blogging, I think. To be honest, the news has been about the same every day and my life has been so busy and exciting, I've had very little time for the computer, so, the blog ended up ignored for a bit. So many people spend so much time "connected" they seem rather distant and disconnected in person. I've always realized there is still a lot of life to be experienced away from the computer screen, and the past couple of weeks I realized the computer screen seemed so much the same old, same old. It's just not in me to continue serfing or find some computer game to play when my home pages lack change, and I'm just not a facebook sort of person. I'm keeping up with the latest reports on the BP oil mess and President Obama's recess appointment, and all the doctors that are shifting gears from high tech, high dollar tests, to a more natural approach at their regular fees, not to mention the push for more home health care for the elderly, the surges in the war efforts and the general mayhem, and the latest in the Palin saga; all of which really gets my panties in a bunch any way. I'm sick to death of hearing the collective decision makers pour more and more money down all these various rat holes that will be left for my grandchildren to pay. Well, the Palins don't go in that category, they are at least earning money by their willingness to publicly humiliate themselves continuously. I've had the pleasure of teaching my lifestyle to a younger generation and in that I've been delighted to hear the comments about the priorities they have observed. As our grandson was preparing for the fair, his great grandmother suggested that he come up with more entries for more prize money. His response was, "This isn't about money!" My granddaughter is learning Scripture and memorizing prayers from the prayer book and she recited a portion about G-D sending rain in it's season, the land would produce, we would eat and be satisfied. She then commented that this lifestyle was so "satisfying and peaceful." I found that quite astounding coming from an eleven year old. And my other eleven year old granddaughter is simply elated that her cosmopolitan mom referred our place as "home." It's been nice taking a break from politics as usual and reading all the religious and secular arguments. And spending time with my grandkids is a top priority!

Politics

As I recall, I realize the spin is dizzying, making the memory seem hazy, but then Candidate Obama had a clear and negative opinion of the way General Petraeus was handling the war in Iraq. Now President Obama has decided General Petraeus is the man for the job in Afghanistan? Really? Has our President become enlightened since taking his oath of office? Of course he was going to be out of Iraq in 2009 and he had a better idea than G.W.'s 3/4 trillion dollar stimulus and everyone would have handled Katrina better than Brownie. So 70 days into the BP oil mess, what gives besides the spin? Although I don't agree with those with the Tea Bag leaning, I can't help but wonder just what it is our present administration wants except more power over the people. He's given us health care we didn't want. His wife is going to tell all of us what to eat. Everything that goes wrong, he blames on the GOP. Wow! Sounds like he took notes out of the same playbook as before. Everything that went wrong for G.W. got blamed on those democrats and liberals. Frankly the spin is tiring and has ceased to be entertaining. Maybe, just maybe it's time for real leadership and that I believe would completely leave politicians out of the running. Politicians have to keep the pot stirred to keep the media and lobbyists interested, thus keeping the people agitated for the election cycle, mass control, and subservience. For the past 30 years, democracy in action has amounted to little more than maintaining the fear and anger enough to keep the people divided. So much so, they can tell us it was bad intelligence and go right on doing what they were or tell us the change isn't coming as promised, but it will be difficult; and half of the country will fall in line behind one or the other.

Economy Improving?

So, I read yet again that the economy is improving. I'd like to know where. Oh, I realize, now that all the middle class has lost their stock market investments and their nerve, the market is going back up. Well, how nice for the aristocratically elite of this country. As far as the rest of us seeing the improvement . . . I can't find anyone seeing it. I asked a clerk at the grocery store if she'd noticed anything different and she began complaining about the price of groceries and then proceeded to tell me about her son that had had the same job since right out of school was now entering his second year of unemployment. She went on to tell me that there were thousands of applicants for a single job opening in many of the places her son was sending his resume. Then I found myself in a really strange conversation in a pharmacy. Since I don't use pharmaceuticals this is one loop I am clearly out of and truthfully haven't missed. My husband went in for something, so the granddaughters and I wandered around. Since Father's Day snuck up on my by a week, this year, I thought I better grab a card for Daddy while I was there. To my shock, the card plus tax came to just under $5.00. I just stood there for a moment before offering my thoughts as to why e-cards are gaining momentum and the fact that this was not even a Hallmark! Then the conversation got strange as the clerk informed me of all the reasons the card was so expensive. I agreed that all of her details clearly indicated e-cards were the way to go. She then said, the problem with the economy is: are you ready? People have too much money. Well now, that certainly was a new perspective in this economic crisis. She then tried to engage me in some conversation about the end of free checking. I just had to get out of there before I said any more. As we were leaving we noticed several shelves of items that we had never seen in the pharmacy before. The clerk quickly informed us that all the items on those shelves were $1.00. Oh, one more place that this improved economy is affecting! I then went to mail the card. I couldn't believe it when I got to the post office and the man behind the counter informed me it would be 61 cents. That's right, a first class stamp wouldn't cover it. He just looked at me like all postal workers do . . . I was so glad I hadn't stuck a stamp on it and dropped it in a mail box somewhere. Our illustrious postal service would have either cancelled the stamp and returned it to me for insufficient postage or delivered it to my Dad, postage due. Wow! Wouldn't that have truly said, "Happy Father's Day!"
Well, I can honestly say, I think the only thing that will keep paper cards and the post office in business much longer, are the people that refuse to get computers!

First Address from Oval Office

How interesting that Candidate Obama could actually pre-empt the World Series to tell us why he should be our president and now it's taken nearly 18 months for him to address us from the Oval Office to discuss what's been going on since he's become president. How nice! Well, he said early on, "I won!" When I heard him say that, all I could think was "we the people" had lost. I'm finding his presidency to be more than just a little disappointing. I listened to some of his speech and it was what I've read throughout his administration. He didn't cause it . . . It won't be fixed overnight . . . We've got more work and rough days ahead . . . He'll find the right people to blame . . . It, as always, whatever "it" is, will be better than before . . . I was not one of the majority that voted "against Bush" in the last election, which clearly won President Obama the majority. I didn't vote for Sarah, either. Truth be told and I mentioned it at the time, with the price of gasoline, I just didn't find it worth the trip to go and write somebody's name in. And so, I didn't. Now, I know the saying. If you didn't vote you can't complain, which is fair. I'm not feeling like complaining anyway, it's more a feeling of being disengaged from the process. Unfortunately, I feel our president is as disengaged from the citizens as I am from Washington, DC.

A Nation of Authority Based upon Our Own Issues

An odd thought occurred to me last night that I hadn't considered in years. I discovered a couple of interesting facts a few years ago and just sort of remembered them for some reason, and last night I saw the picture gain a few more pieces. I realized that Hitler and Freud were from the same basic region in Europe, while I was living in a town that you could literally see the demonic haze over it, from several miles down the high way. And through the course of facebook and videos passed around, I've come to understand there are many religious folks now studying demons and demonic influence over areas. Well, I'm not into studying demons or giving the enemy of G~D any attention, but what I've come to understand is; just like Freud and Hitler, we are a nation of claimed authority based upon our own unresolved issues. Social workers have their issues. Some well known preachers were pretty infamous sinners. I never met a mental health worker that had their own life in order. AA attendees become AA sponsors, and same with NA. Former prisoners are all over the map with jail ministries. We are a nation of people that find a way to have authority over people that struggle with our own issues or with people that make us feel challenged or out of step. History has revealed that Freud was one sick dude, psychologically speaking and Hitler had definite issues with having some question about a possible Jewish heritage, or at least his grandmother's Jewish employer. So, where does it end here? Could we be heading toward a society in which the one with the most unresolved issues will ultimately claim the most authority?

It's Not Been Blogger's Block

I've not been ignoring this site, either. It's so much bigger than any lame excuse I could even think about coming up with. My problem in this past week and a half is this: it's all just too serious to make fun of and it's all too overwhelming to be dismissed, so something has to be said or written that screams, "WAKE UP!" Feeling that I still don't have that, I decided I had to come on and at least put in an appearance. This Gulf deal is a mess and there is no earthly reason it's political, but since it's washing ashore here in America, of course it's political! And the mess in Gaza is huge, and it's not political, either, but from what I'm reading it's going to just divide along religious political lines as usual. I'm thinking as long as there is division, we are still a a step or two from fulfilling Zechariah 14. I'm amazed at the number of Christians that are passing around articles and videos stating the Rabbis are looking at the fulfillment of Gog and Magog. I haven't seen any Rabbis making that statement, as a matter of fact, they seem to be juggling their own congregants in regard to the entire situation in Palestine. I do believe we are looking at some prophecy coming to pass, but I don't believe the ones that think they are in the know, know what they are seeing. First, anyone that is talking "pre-tribulation rapture" with this Gog and Magog prophecy is going to be disappointed and rethinking their theology as the last days continue to unfold. Next the political secularists which is also a religion of it's own is only going to disagree with the religious right that are awaiting the rapture while beating the drums of war. To politicize these calamities is nothing but pure arrogance and strong delusion. The closer all this gets, the more convinced I am that America truly does appear in Scripture, and it isn't good. Our greed is contaminating the water. Our heavy handedness in the Middle East has brought even more turmoil. And our religion and politics are as intertwined as the Judean Sanhedrin and Constantine's Rome!

Finally, Something Our Government isn't Taking Over

I was so relieved to hear some spokesman for the White House tell the press that the government would not be taking the oil mess away from BP. Of course, I am cynical enough to believe the White House doesn't want any more mess on it's hands that it cannot fully blame on the last administration and it was just a couple of weeks after President Obama went against so many in his party to promote this drilling deal, that the mess occurred, so clearly he won't be wanting a turn to hold this hot potato. I did like the reasons that were given, however. The government lacks the expertise and equipment that BP has. I love it. Not being knowledgeable or equipped doesn't usually stop politicians in power. I can't help but wonder if this were an American company what would have been legislated already to answer to the government. Since BP doesn't answer to the White House, if the government did take over, BP could simply pack up and go home.
Now as to the blame game., because it's for sure coming. Cheney, of course, will be linked to Haliburton, apparently forever and some democrats are already bringing that up. And of all things, some so-called conservatives are claiming Obama is too cozy with Big Oil. Funny, big oil is always associated with both parties to an extent to cover their bases and hedge their bets, but the big money goes to the republicans. So as the blame unfolds, I think we need to remember, regardless of who ultimately ends up holding the hot potato, the oil is in the water that affects nature and affects us all.

Powerful People without Elected Office

I just can't help but take notice of some very powerful people that are not politicians or business people that actually provide a product. As a matter of fact, most of them are entertainers . . . and yet they have a devout following that believes they are sharing insight and wisdom of the ages. I read and listen to opinions from both sides and frankly, I think many people are getting played. If we could just get a hold of the some logic in these various situations, we might be able to regain our collective composure. Fact one, Oprah is an entertainer. Many of her viewing audience believe she is enlightened and sharing with them her enlightenment, but basically she's enjoying her wealth, fame, and I would think her power to even tell people what books to read. Now moving right along to more entertainers, we have Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, who state they are entertainers. Just because their listening audience thinks they are reporters doesn't change the fact that they are entertainers. Maintaining a large enough audience to sell their sponsor's products is their job. As for Sarah Palin, isn't good for her that her ticket lost the 2008 election? Joe Biden doesn't get to comment on every little thing that goes on and he's spending time with his family on a regular basis. If she were the vice president, she'd have to take care of her kids instead of twitter and she'd have to hold a few opinions to herself. She would probably have to just write her memoirs after her term, like everyone else that passes through or by 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
We give a lot of power to people in this country that really haven't earned it and are truthfully and openly making millions off of entertaining the gullible.

Enough Already!

In preparation for Sabbath and for Shavu'ot next week, I'm taking a week off from this blog. When I'm trying to seek G~D and focus on HIM, I find politics to be very distracting. So, I'll be back to this blog the 24th of May. I do believe there will be UPDATES posted soon, though, and I may post a thought or two on Rhapsody Road.

Our President doesn't seem to be enjoying his promise of transparency, after all. Although in his campaign he promised openness, for awhile he seemed to be skirting the press at several opportunities. Now, he's down right dissing the press. We've been told knowledge is power and this president more than any other has utilized the 24/7 information internet. He raised how many million dollars in his campaign by promising change and transparency and didn't he insist upon and get his way to keep his personal blackberry for personal e-mails, while all other presidents have had every piece of correspondence available to someone else for accountability? And now, of all things, this man who has done nothing but benefit from being the star of the media for more than three years, the hope of political blogs for more than three years and actually pre-empted the World Series, doesn't think blogs, cableTV, and constant access to news information is good for us. Well, I saw this one coming with the digital TV signals last year. Don't be surprised when we discover our information is filtered. But then, if we keep getting all these news item crumbs and enough negative press about someone we don't like, will we know if our information is filtered? What have we already missed while then Candidate Obama was making us promises and collecting donations? What do we not hear while Glenn Beck is telling us TPTB want to silence him? It's easy to see Sarah Palin playing the media both ways, but what about the rest of them? What does happen and when do we find out when our President of the FCC decides we have TMI [Too Much Information] and ramp up the filter?

Answer to National Day of Prayer

I was not impressed with the way our nation handled National Day of Prayer, but I did think Franklin Graham was quite gracious. I did love the answer I got for a specific prayer I spoke and requested throughout the day, including on air through "Choosing Life." I was so grateful late last evening when I left clicked to a news site and that was the lead story! Granted, our Pentagon has missed more than one opportunity of late. These three young men should have been given medals, not courts martial, and uninviting someone, anyone to a day of prayer is beyond rude. Our nation really has its nerve, collectively to continue to ask G~D for favors, blessings and mercy, but clearly HE answered this prayer.

When we moved to the country, we decided some sort of mini tractor was in order. A mini tractor is really just a bulky riding mower. Anyway, we looked at mowers, garden tractors, and yard tractors. We looked at Swisher, Husqvarna, and Poulan brands. We finally went with Poulan, as it was American made and Swisher is a bit more of a contraption than I want to deal with. Well, now here we are beginning our 5th mowing season since the big purchase and I believe my husband has replaced the head gasket more times than we've filled the mower with gasoline. It's been so consistent, I actually called the company to see if there was some sort of recall on it. They said no, and something about a warranty. I have my own feelings about warranties, for the most part and my husband has come around to my way of thinking. If it's a fairly new trendy item, I go for a low end warranty, thinking it may still have a few bugs that need to be worked out, but if it's something that has been on the market for awhile, I don't think I need more than the warranty that comes with the purchase. Our common response when they ask if we want an additional warranty is, "How long is built to last?" Then we get some sort of limited blah blah blah answer and ultimately it goes full circle to the question again. It is at that point that I tell them. "If I'm disappointed in the performance and endurance of the product, and have to buy a new one sooner than expected, I'll simply change brands." I mean really, at the price of the extended warranties, you could just about have another new one paid for. So, our Poulan came with a year warranty, I think. And having had to replace the first head gasket within that time, we figured it was just a fluke. Well, we were wrong. It's an annual event. Let me clarify since it's been 5 years and this is only our 4th head gasket. Of course one, came in the original assembly. We moved last year so I only mowed once at the old place and tethered the goats here at the new one. Officially, we didn't replace it last year, but we've only taken two swaths this year and here we are again. I just hope our Poulan will "pull on" through this entire summer! By the way, I've heard nothing but good things about Husqvarna.
