The Reality of Life in the Perception of Mainstream

I can't believe I am writing such a personal blog, today; but I am. An acquaintance of mine died this week. He was an interesting individual that in many ways, I admired, but in other ways, I saw myself and my own struggles. I didn't ever get very close to him, but I don't think he or I got very close to most people, and I will refer to him as a friend. We had similar backgrounds, we would both undoubtedly be labelled religious fanatics, and found ourselves business owners in the same town. Neither of us were from that city originally and I don't know if he felt the same exclusion that I did, but somehow I think he might have. I know there were views that we held that always kept us out of mainstream, yet never drew the two of us to a personal indepth discussion. When we moved, I had even sent an invitation for him to visit. Funny, he was the one individual from that town that my husband and I genuinely extended a specific invitation to our new place. It wasn't the usual exchange amongst our friends when we shared our new address and the general "keeping in touch plans." I have called him a friend and I have cried several times since hearing of his death, but he never responded to our invitation. This man was a high achiever, intensely motivated, but I felt he never allowed himself to enjoy the "rewards" of his effort. I'm not going to analyze or become philosophical, because I believe that would disrespect his memory. I'll leave the philosphy to the lazy pseudo-intellectuals, because he certainly was not that. I think analysis is best left with those involved in the pseudo-science cult of psychiatry and psychology, as that seems to be a special codependent combination of "supplanters" and "seekers." My friend never seemed to find solace in the "wisdom of man." I do know my friend wanted to know G~d and wanted to please G~d; and like me, had been introduced to condemning religious teachings that dog people for a lifetime. My friend jumped off a bridge into the river, but I really do not believe he died of suicide, I believe he died of exhaustion. The circumstances in which his body was recovered do not align with the usual findings in these situations. It is my heartfelt belief, rather than to die, he merely wanted to leave behind, the life that was silently towing him under. I know in my heart, the river was symbolic of mainstream, with no easy access for many of us, and even fewer that just 'get out' while they are still alive. Now, religious views all differ, when someone completes suicide or dies by a choice they might not make in different circumstances. But who can judge as to whether depression, exhaustion, or sorrow are any less fatal than cancer or organ failure? I firmly believe my friend has truly found G~d and come to receive the comfort he couldn't find in this life, and has finally allowed himself to be embraced in the arms of G~d, who is love.
Herein is love, not that we loved G~d, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Operating on a "Need to Know" Basis

I believe I first heard this criteria in chaplain work. When I was serving as volunteer chaplain for the state hospital and the police department, the term began to be used readily. It basically meant, they appreciated my time, but I should not consider myself privy to anything, other than what was determined by them for me to "need to know." That worked very well for me, as I could not be held responsible for what I didn't know. So, "need to know basis" was the best way to offer some assistance to the people at the mercy of the system while appearing to respect the control issues of the authorities. It worked very well for the time I served, but I have a different opinion when it comes to my rights as a citizen. Now, I realize I'm just a tax payer without a major axe to grind on some tolerance topic, so my rights are limited, but . . . I think what happened last week was just odd, at best. I realize now, we must all be paying for the privilege of operating on a "need to know basis." I had to find out on the "streets" of the internet reading news from other countries. Did you know that the Washington Post reported that General Michael Hayden has been sworn in as the new CIA director, and it was reported in the news in other countries, but CNN and FOX didn't seem to find it newsworthy? Or perhaps, this news didn't meet the "need to know" criteria. I feel, it is my patriotic duty to "need to know" this stuff, or at least have access to it, here in the US. It just makes me wonder how many other matters are just being run through and not mentioned. Well, actually, I believe this takes all the wonder out of it. I would have blogged about this on my usual Friday afternoon, but in my attempt to check my information, I found my computer locked up after my searches for information regarding General Hayden. It seemed that I crossed the line of "need to know." So, will the "need to know basis" be a law of reciprocity? Why does it seem we do not need to know who the new director is, or that General Hayden has become the new director, but our government "needed to know" phone records and obtain warrantless wiretaps. And all of that is within the law. How do we know it's lawful? Because the ones obtaining the records told us it is within the law. Well, I feel the name of the person that has the authority to invade my privacy and the power to enforce all sorts of "lawful" inquests is something I "need to know."

Why Should I Pay for Your Choice that I Didn't Want?

I'm having trouble here, staying positive. So, I will make this short with just a couple of points and move on toward a better perspective, next time. I have a problem with hearing people whine and wanting money, when they are the ones that have made the choice to be where they are. I'm not talking about a crisis event, I'm talking about choices that render those that are whining in a substandard existence. Why do you want funding to stay there? Please explain this to me. I've read about the "poor" Palestinians and the Hamas government that's not meeting their humanitarian needs. Well, big surprise, Hamas is not that kind of organization. It's not on the same list as the Red Cross, United Way, and Unicef. Perhaps next time you hold "free elections" you might want to read about the party you're voting for. I don't mean to sound discompassionate, but why should I fund the deal, I didn't vote for them. I couldn't participate in the elections but I could read what they were saying. Nobody is funding those of us who didn't get what we wanted in our election.
Now, closer to home. Listen Katrina people, it's almost hurricane season again. I'm really not impressed that the only things you people can get your act together for, is Mardi Gras and electing the mayor that's blamed everybody he can think of for everything he can think of. I've been reading some questionable activities about the hurricane survivors, like we just can't provide enough for you people, but we don't need to bother with job fares and free rides to a place called work. Why should I fund next year's Mardi Gras? I'm not coming. And that snow machine with your funding was stupid. You're much farther south than we are, and our kids didn't see snow until February, and then only for a day. If I'm paying, I get to help decide. If you're not paying, you shouldn't be calling the shots.

Excuse me, I have a question???????

Do you ever just want to stand in the middle of a store, or the middle of a meeting, or perhaps the middle of a religious assembling and ask, "Does anybody really know what's going on these days? I mean, do you really think we have any idea?" I've spent most of the week just questioning every news story and every circumstance I come across. How did all this confusion become security? I read that a driver of an SUV, who was suspected to be involved in illegal immigration, was shot at the busiest border crossing, but . . . he was going to Mexico. So, why, when there is such a hullabaloo about illegal immigration are we shooting at the guys going south? Hey now, here's a surprise, the runaway bride broke up with her intended. This poor guy has already been jilted on national news, and now it's news on CNN that she has called it quits with him. Is it really that slow of a news day? I was at our local MFA store, when I read an interesting notice. Due to 9/11 and the Patriot Act, the US government needs to know who is buying grain. They need to know what I am feeding my critters? Yeah, right! Then there was a notice beneath that notice dated Dec. of 2005 stating that due to the above governmental rights and authority, they needed our name, address, and phone number if we were purchasing grain. Now, my question is; what is the real reason? Are they keeping track of the animals for the next sickness fear? Are they keeping track of the survivalists that may be going back to basics? Are they just running away with intrusive demands, because they can?
Oh, and in the middle of all this spy controversy and terrorists tracking, the FBI is spending 2 weeks of their overpriced time and who knows how many kajillion dollars of our hard earned tax dollars, digging up some farmer's field or pasture because they have a tip from a reliable convict that Jimmy Hoffa is buried there. What's the deal? Whether he's dead or living it up in the Caribbean, it's been over 30 years ago. We've got other stuff going on. And it's up north, the growing season isn't going to last that long. Let the guy have his crop or his pasture. It's been over 30 years, can't it wait another 3 or 4 months?
Okay, I promised to be positive and frankly this sounds pretty cynical. So I will end on a positive note. I am absolutely positive there are other Americans thinking these same kind of questions and beginning to see there's more than meets the eye. I am positive!
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Out to Lunch for a New Perspective

Well, it is no easy task to find a positive solution for the current news in America. I pretty much thought all of our leaders and those in power just flat sound "out to lunch." Then the idea hit me, if I could take a few of these people "out to lunch" just to chat, what I would say and perhaps it would give them a new perspective or maybe they could explain to me, in a way I could understand just what it is that they are thinking. Who knows if it would help, in either direction, but lunch, it couldn't hurt!
First, I'd have to go to lunch with Condoleezza Rice, just for some girl talk. You know, it would be one of those things of letting her know in a friendly way, just what the lowdown was. Let her know what I've been hearing . . . most of the leaders of other countries think she needs a man in her life or maybe the ticking of her biological clock is affecting her attitude. I think I'd try to introduce her to a nice guy, or encourage her to have dinner with a man and discuss something other than nuclear weapons and humanitarian funding.
I'd of course want to take the President to lunch. I'd tell him a few of us are catching on to this "fuzzy fine line" between security and captivity. And this security policy with the usual mantra about "nothing to hide," seems a bit hypocritical to have "sealed archives" for public officials like your dad, when I; a private American citizen discover my calls are accessible to the "party line."
I'd also like to take General Hayden out to lunch. I realize with this new spy club of shared information, it's just a wonderful opportunity for you, but so far all of this spy work seems to just enable the Washington powers to keep track of the American citizens. I thought you guys were playing "I Spy" to catch the bad guys. If Bin Laden can send videos and his second in command has been captured and released [by mistake?] in Iraq, are you sure this spy business is working? All the possible attacks that have been averted are a bit intangible, kind of like the fisherman that tells us about the "one that got away." There were no attacks on America between 1941 and 2001, before all these agencies were "in business." Oh, and just for the record, Hawaii wasn't one of the United States in 1941.
Then, I would have to take Patrick Kennedy to lunch. I would tell him, "listen Patrick, may I call you Patrick . . ." this taking responsibility for something dumb doesn't work for democrats. I know you've seen it done and the republicans do make it look easy and even heroic, but it isn't. You come from a long line of people in public service with weaknesses that some of the public just loves to feed off of, so get dried out and sobered up or get out of the limelight, because they are just going to be waiting. I've already read a report comparing "the differences" in your situation to Rush L. You don't really want to sound like him, do you?
Before we can do lunch, I have to make sure they can accept if I pick up the check, which I am willing to do, to have my say. It used to be we could just vote to have a voice in decision making policy, but the lobbyists have sure changed that, so I don't want to start a new Abramoff situation for any of us. Wonder if these lunches would be 100% deductible on my taxes? Oh well, even if they aren't, I'd sure like our leaders to get a new perspective, so that we, as Americans, can enjoy our lives as we work hard trying to live and be free.
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of G~d.

A Week in America, A Day without Immigrants

It's been a full week, here in the US, now hasn't it? We began the week with a Day Without Immigrants and finalized the week with another "superb job and mutually determined resignation" in the Bush administration and my granddaughter telling me Happy Cinco de Mayo! First let me suggest we might consider a revolving door in government agencies these days. Between the leaks and the transition time and the continual decline of popularity, I'm guessing change will also be continual. With change aren't we looking at perpetual transition and greater increase of leaks just by the mere fact more people are gaining access to the information? Now back to a Day without Immigrants. My husband asked me Monday, what I thought we should do about the declared day. I said, I had considered going buffalo hunting without a license or permit. Then maybe I'd exchange a few beads for some corn, without worrying about sales and use tax. Why I might even consider putting up a teepee without checking the zoning laws, if there were no immigrants on American soil. Instead, we decided to go shopping and dine out, but we would patronize an ethnic restaurant. Actually there were very few businesses closed in our area, or that appeared to be operating differently. We went to a Chinese restaurant and I must say at that establishment, they have assimilated to the American culture very well. The service was lousy, the food was left over lunch buffet at the dinner price, and they had no problem looking us in the eye as we paid our check and left quite dissatisfied.
We need to face something about immigration and cultural pride. Truth is, if life is good, people don't usually leave where they are. And have you ever noticed, the people that need the change are the very ones that insist upon everyone being accepting of their ways of doing things. Well, ok then, but if it didn't work there, why bring the idea here to implement? We need to keep in mind, the descendants of European immigrants who do make up the majority of American citizens, already know how immigrants change the lives of the already established culture. That's exactly what their ancestors did between three and four hundred years ago. They know about this insistance of learning the language. America already has a history of immigrants changing every aspect of the way of life, including the language of the original citizens of the land. And I am guessing they don't want what happened to the American Indian to happen to them. Has America ever had a Native American President? We already know, unregulated immigration, much less illegal immigration; brings with it, dramatic change, rendering a society or culture far beyond recongition and well past the point of "no return."
And He said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto G~d the things which be G~d's.

If Low is Negative, is High Positive?

I have vowed to myself and to my readers to have a positive perspective in these posts, and so I intend to keep my word, regardless of the news. I read this week, that the approval ratings of President Bush is at an "all time low," again. I believe for the past few months, each rating has a lower percentage and for several months now, he's been beating his own record. Say, he really does know how to "stay the course" and keep moving in the same direction! Not to belabor the low ratings, as that seems negative, let's discuss some of the "high numbers" in his presidency. Hey, gasoline prices have never been this high! Never, in the history of the United States and the United Nations, has one administration suggested and declared so much. We are now in 3 wars, Afghanistan, Iraq, and global terrorism, and maintaining this while military recruitment is beneath regularly expected quotas. I get the "forward" e-mails all the time about supporting troups and thanking soldiers, and I do pray for the troups, and I'd like to bring them home. In all the population that is in support of the wars, I only know one person that has a son or grandson serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. So, it would seem most of our populace are for supporting the war effort, but not directly and not personally.
Back to high numbers. Our current president has signed into law, more executive orders than any other president and he's only in the second year of his second term. There has never been an American President that has informed so many other world leaders as to how to do their job. I'll wrap this "high" blog up with the two topics of highest numbers in recent discussion . . . Never have we had a president that is so ready to increase our financially struggling, war-fearing, job outsourced population by some 11 or more million, an addition of nearly 5%?
If approval and budgeting were on the same continuum, I don't believe his low approval ratings begin to compare with the huge deficit our next president will be forced to face.
While his approval ratings may be at a new all time low, his "highs" also seem to be ever moving to all time records, as well.
The simple man has faith in every word, but the man of good sense gives thought to his footsteps.

Trading Places

Well, here it is the end of the week. Thinking I was already having problems coming up with positive solutions? Oh, no, I had to do a little rearranging of my plan after Scott McClellan announced his resignation, that's all. Those that are satisfied with the way things are going are dissatisfied with those that don't like the present direction. And those that are dissatisfied with the present direction seem to be aggrivated about everything. What I have noticed is, though, whether we are of the dissastified camp, or in support of the present direction and administration, there really are no solutions on the horizon. Therefore, I suggest, we set aside a day, and have some of the major key players trade places with either each other or maybe even some not so key players, like say the American citizens. First to the protesting immigrants, putting your flag above the American flag is no way to win support. It makes you look pushy and disrespectful, so, you need to trade places for a day with someone that has had to endure the ever changing cost of American living, while providing their own medical coverage and living on an actual paycheck that has the taxes withheld, rather than daily cash. And to all the Americans that do not want illegal immigrants here, you have to trade places with them. Spend a day, believing this is the land of opportunity and you don't have any rights to it. See just how many luxuries we have been led to believe are basic necessities. Now on to the leadership . . . Dick Cheney must spend a day as a reporter and a reporter must spend a day in the limelight. We'll see at the end of the day, just how low profile and low-powered Mr. Cheney really chooses to be and see just how much a reporter wants shared about their own life. I think, since I have had so many political comments, it's only fitting that I would have Mr. Bush's job for a day, and he can enjoy my life for a day. First, I guess he gets to blog about the mess he would have to walk into. It's been easy for me to say, we shouldn't have gone to Iraq, but unlike Kerry, I haven't changed my mind, I was against it before we went. I never did see the correlation between Iraq and 9/11, but now that we are there, I wouldn't just say we're done now. How could I? And I don't have an exit strategy, either, other than to say, get your government going or we are going to rule. If we are financing and protecting, then just sit back and we'll colonize the place, then maybe you can all agree on getting free and independent. You want water lines and sewer systems and TV satellite, we want to see a constitution in action! My last switch would be one that wouldn't really make any difference, because these two individuals just talk about what everyone else is doing wrong, but I think it would do both of them some good to at least have to change their style for a day to continue to raise support for their views, be it by opinion or finance. I would suggest that Rush Limbaugh be a freshman senator for the state of New York for a day and Hilary Rodham Clinton actually have to keep a listening audience for some 3 hours on talk radio.

A New Attitude - Positive Ideas !!!

When I began writing this weblog, it seemed I could raise some questions, maybe provoke a little thought, who knows, maybe even make a difference somewhere. But, the reality is, people like believing what they believe, myself included, and really don't like their perspectives questioned or shaken. Tolerant people want all others to be tolerant like them, and they don't tolerate their version of intolerant views. Open-minded people want others to be as open-minded as they are and see things as they do. Those that consider themselves illuminated continue to strive to shed light on those with "dimmer" views. So, with that in mind, I've decided to change what has become my personal vent site to a weekly "idea" place. I think it's a great idea and I have one already. Oh, I'm still going to address matters in the news, but we all know the old saying. "If you are not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." So I am going to begin my weekly focus on a solution for problems in the news. And the first one, addresses two problems in the news. I have actually dtermined a way to use two problems to solve the other. Wow! Is this not a great start?
I suggest, since nothing was decided and Congress has to come back from "spring break" and deal with this immigration problem; we take a new perspective.
Let's solve some of the immigration problem and the Katrina relocation situation, simultaneously. First, we offer instant citizenship to 500,000 illegal immigrants that will step up, be identified, registered and agree to teach the Katrina victims how to find shelter and jobs, because the illegal immigrants have managed that without the aid of FEMA or months of hotel services, and without the aid of public transportation to job fairs. Okay, I realize that doesn't completely solve the illegal immigration problem, but I'm not finished, yet . . . Reinact the Homestead Act in New Orleans. Illegal immigrants that will agree to live, rebuild, and maintain the abandoned properties will receive guest worker status and in five years receive both citizenship and property ownership. Then we take it nationwide. Every town has their undesirable abandoned properties and I am not suggesting for a moment that the illegal immigrants should be second class citizens, but as it stands right now, they aren't citizens at all, so let them have the property to make improvements and provide them a place to live and get the properties back on the tax role, with an outlined timeframe and agreement.
Next . . .
We begin a citizenship lottery. That's right, it's simple, and it's not just for participation by the illegal immigrants. It's also for their employers, that are managing to save several dollars in withholding and other benefits. This is a wonderful opportunity for them invest in their employees. And as we have already discovered with lottery and casinos, it is the perfect way to address the added financial pressure that will be facing the education system.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.

Coincidence

This is still pertaining to the subject of the last blog, because I am shocked at the coincidental events that have accompanied this trial and I am truly horrified as to where this might lead. First, let me say, I am in no way defending Zacarias Moussaoui, he very clearly stated how he feels about the United States. So, other than the fact, he just happens to be the one on trial, and by that I am acknowledging the large number of people that are not fans of the American way of life, and happen to have access into our country. I have other issues with this situation. I still have a problem with the fact that he had already been arrested nearly a month before 9/11. There were supposedly many threats through the past several years that apparently came to nothing. After 9/11, there have been scores of new laws and departments and committees made and organized. Are there really a large number of policy making Americans that would have enacted all these new measures based upon the word of one lone al Qaida reject, and accomplished it in less than a month, in our government? But, we must still now face, we, America; are seeking the death of someone that hates us, but has technically done nothing. As a matter of fact, that is the charge, he did nothing, when he now claims to have known about it. Now the next thing that concerns me is about this is the "would be" fifth plane. I thought everyone was all up in arms and all ready to declare war because the fourth plan that crashed in Pennsylvania was supposed to be headed for the White House. If he was supposed to be on a fifth plane, what happened to the other four terrorists that would have been "required?" And if he was just then, in August, a student in flight school, he would be ready by September 11th? I'm having difficulty, here. This is scary, because he is a scary individual with what appears to be a great deal of hate and very little stability, but it is also scary, because so far that is exactly all that has been proven about this individual. Now, on to my next concern. If he does get the death penalty, who and how many are going to consider him a martyr or a death that requires vindication? Not that I am suggesting we should be afraid, I've been against the fear propaganda all along, but if we execute someone for a death or 3000 deaths that occurred when this person was already detained, aren't we headed for a slippery slope? Remember, we weren't at war, when he was arrested. Are we really ready, as a nation; to exact capital punishment for thoughts? I believe this man is a danger to our society, but I think the timing is playing on emotions and fear and interesting political headlines. What do we do with this man? I don't have any idea, but since the charge started with an immigration problem and has escalated, we need to realize this has international consequences. I found it sad that the 9/11 emergency tapes were released to the survivors the same day the jury went to deliberation to determine his elegibility for the death sentence. And, I find it very sad, but familiar that the tapes have blank spots as to what the people are really saying. Wow! Blank spots in tape recordings, who would have ever thought of such a thing? So the survivors have new salt in this really not so healed wound and many of them will be able to make peace and find closure if there is another death? I just don't what to say to that, but it saddens me greatly. There is no way the death of a hateful man will bring back any of the people that died that day. Will there truly ever be closure to this matter?

The Big Trial

It's really almost scary to blog about this subject, so here I go. It's about the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui and other things. I was shocked this morning when I discovered the date of his arrest. He's the man that is on trial, the only one ever to be tried for the attack of 9/11. He was arrested the 16th of August 2001. I'm not for a moment suggesting, he's not a dangerous character, but how can he be on trial for something that had not occurred before he was arrested? I think this is what is so scary about all of this. We are so bent upon exacting vengeance for something that happened, the actual reality and chronology is irrelevant. I find it ironic that while the trial of Moussaoui is underway, our legislators are debating new immigration laws, because you see, the original reason Moussauoi was arrested and detained was due to a concern regarding immigration. How is it, with millions of people unaccounted for, we can be so sure that a guest work status will not result in granting guest status to those that have ideas other than work? I remember the morning of 9/11, vividly and I remember the weeks that followed. I remember that we declared war on Afghanistan because of the Taliban that harboured Bin Laden. Then I remember, we went to war in Iraq, because there was a determination to go to war in Iraq, the reasons would be varying and forthcoming after the fact. And we sit here under the statement, "if you're not for us, you're against us." It is so polarized, yet without direction. And right before I began this blog, I read the headline that President Bush says Saddam Hussein is responsible for the insurgents in Iraq three years after Hussein was removed. Where is the order? What is the order? I made a casual remark in reference to Lee Harvey Oswald and the fact that at least they waited until after the President was shot to arrest him. Our governing plan seems a bit like the "magic bullet theory" inverted and mushroomed. There are so many things going on and nothing is getting accomplished; with the exception that we are continuously being told how much we don't know is getting done. That, I do believe. I am quite sure that I have no idea how much is going on, but will be told or realize long after the fact.

How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

Couldn't You Just Hug The President?????

I don't usually have a great deal of enthusiasm for what our President is doing, but this is truly "blog-worthy." When I mention something here in a negative context, then hear something positive about the situation, I must mention it also. I awoke this morning to the news that the convert in Afghanistan may not be facing the death penalty after all. There is a way "around" this charge. It would seem our president's mental health initiative was included in the democracy we exported to Afghanistan. Good news?!? This gentleman that converted over 16 years ago may be found incompetent to stand trial. Afghanistan has embraced the methods of America in dealing with someone that really believes the Bible and is willing to live and die by their beliefs. Now, you may scoff, and say what do you mean, American methods. I know first hand of more than one situation in this country in which a person has been held against their will for "observation" and considered a possible danger to themselves, due to their religious beliefs in the Bible. I know for a fact, someone that believes G~d heals without doctors is termed "grandiose." I have also heard many accounts of similar situations, by what I would consider reliable sources, but then, I believe the Bible, so I would fall in the category of "questionable" under the mental health initiative that was an Executive Order in, I believe April of 2002. That's right, while we were still in shock and the trauma of 9/11, our president signed this Executive Order. And if you think warning your family about this will help, let me tell you, just as this man in Afghanistan may discover, the Americans that called their families, only found themselves to be even more outnumbered. But, this brave soul in Afghanistan that believes his Bible and trusts G~d may actually be blessed by America's mental health initiative, and for that I applaud our president.

I Just Don't Understand It, Yet

I read something horrifying, yesterday, and I read something confusing today and I've been reading about something that just defies logic and they all three relate to the progress of America's war on terror. I read about a man in Afghanistan that is on trial for converting from Islam to Christianity, and the sentence could be death. Now, I realize some countries take their religious beliefs much more seriously than America, but the mind-boggler in this, is the man converted sixteen years ago. Did he think freedom of speech and freedom of religion came with the democracy America was supposed to be bringing? I just mentioned a couple of weeks ago in a blog, wondering the outcome of elections in Afghanistan; I guess, now I know. Are Americans fighting and dying and paying for this sort of thing? What is really going on here? I realize the Taliban was supposed to be the reason we went, but I have been reading that a spokesman for the disbanned Taliban is now attending Yale??? And he certainly doesn't meet the academic standard nor the social status that Yale requires out of American students. So, this is our progress report of a few things that pertain to democracy in Afghanistan. Now, on to our next endeavor, Iraq. Turns out the Mission isn't quite Accomplished, but just a few more years. Here's the deal . . . we can't leave Iraq with no government, because al-Qaida will move in and set up terrorist cells. Maybe that's what Saddam Hussein already knew. I am certainly not saying that I agree with Saddam Hussein, nor do I justify his methods of authority, but, now that America has been there and taken him down, we can't calm it down either. The civillian death toll is horrendous according to American statistics and we've lost over 2,000 soldiers since the Mission was supposedly Accomplished. And it's not just the Sunnis and Shiites, like it was in the eighties. Now we have to worry about al-Qaida, because the whole world knows al-Qaida is against the USA and the USA is in Iraq. So, how is the war or terror progressing? Oh, that's right, there hasn't been another 9/11. Well there wasn't a 9/11 ever, before 2001 and we weren't in perpetual war. Rather than repeat and repeat and repeat the same questions and the same mantra. What if we really looked at this situation and determined that what we need is a plan?

For which of you, desiring to put up a tower, does not first give much thought to the price, if he will have enough to make it complete? For fear that if he makes a start and is not able to go on with it to the end, all who see it will be laughing at him, And saying, This man made a start at building and is not able to make it complete.Or what king, going to war with another king, will not first take thought if he will be strong enough . . . Pre-Emptive Strike or Turn the Other Cheek?

I heard this morning that our leader has the legal right to declare war on anyone that scares him. Now, of course, this is not a direct quote, but the meaning was clear. The political voice of America really does proclaim the right and the duty to keep the world in line, according to the political voice in America. That is the standard. Now, I don't know how all this has come about, suddenly; it probably hasn't . . . it's just needed in the forefront right now, since approval ratings are so very low. As a minister that also happens to be human, I have great difficulty concealing my utter disdain as the religious right blathers about their godly leaders. I thought it was Islam extremists that declared war on anyone and everyone as they saw fit or unfit and disagreeable. How did a Christian nation get to be so war-mongering, and how did so many Christians get so excited about bloodshed? I guess if you can pay $5.00 or more to watch a simulation of the Crucifixion; blood, violence, and death just aren't a problem. Actually, I got "just pretty creeped out" by anyone that could go and watch that. I realize my beliefs really don't match theirs, and I am truly not interested in theirs, at all; and here they are running the country I live in. Since, I am painfully aware that most people living in this Christian nation don't know what the Bible has to say about judgment and death, I will share with you now. First there are several Scriptural passages that clearly state G~d will protect His people from their enemies, but will use their enemies to bring calamity when they dishonor Him. So, this terrorist attack . . . is America not G~d's people, or have we dishonored Him? or both? And, before the heathen get blamed, there is a Scripture that says G~d's people do not pay for the sins of the heathens, His Son did that. Back to the results of the 2004 election, and the fear factor, and political capital. I have heard so many people say they voted for a godly candidate. And I cannot argue that, Scripture says, people bow down to many gods. I do know, the Son of the G~d I serve, told His followers to turn the other cheek. So, it's not a matter of someone being godly or not, it's just a matter of recognizing the difference between the gods and G~d.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

What if People Actually Lived by The Standard They Talk About?

It's been awhile since I've posted. And, like every American, I have a good reason. Well, maybe it's not such a good reason, but it is my reason and it has worked for two weeks now. But, I'm back on track, again . . . I've been listening and reading to a variety of comments on a variety of topics, yet there appears to be a theme. People have opinions and standards, yet if it comes to discomfort or inconvenience for their beliefs, they find a way to justify and rationalize. Oh, it's everywhere, but rather than get personal, I do my best to comment on the socially recognized taboos. Let's talk about politics and religion and the standards set forth by the so-called conservatives. First, did you know that Social Security was never designed to be received by the one paying in? It was established to be more of a financial exchange system. Through the industrial revolution and farm failure, there were an average of 12-15 workers for every one person collecting, and only those that were in need were collecting. Then, came the "m" generation, who determined that they were paying in for their own retirement. I call it the "m" generation, because they have been instrumental in leading the nation toward materialism and taking care of themselves - "me." President Roosevelt was now dead and President Eisenhower was the leader of our nation as materialistism boomed. Then, this same generation swallowed the story of the century about President Kennedy's death and watched the next president give America, medicare. Now, you would think as everyone discusses our founding fathers and their magnificent convictions, someone would be questioning by now, the price for living in America. Oh, that's right, the price is never too high, if someone else is paying. Why would such staunch conservatives as we have now, all over this nation, be settling and accepting the "socialism" introduced by democrats, years ago? And what about evangelicals and the religious right? Do they believe G~d provides or does the government? And, for those that are thinking G~d uses the government, then my question would be: Then why is there a deficit? Do they really believe G~d operates in debt? Not according to the mega-church! And why would a nation that trusts G~d need medicare? Why would a nation that trusts G~d, live in so much fear of flu and war and weather, etc.? What if just half the people that are wanting to make the rules actually lived by the ones they say they believe? What if, the Christian leaders of our country actually lived by Scripture? What if American Christianity was actually based on the Bible? What if the people doing the talking were actually living by what they claimed to believe?
For the kingdom of G~d is not in word, but in power.

Giving Up Whine for Lent

Did you notice the change in the news reports concerning New Orleans the last four days of February? Well, I certainly did. Once the last four days of Mardi Gras were under way, the reports were just one good time after another. I particularly loved getting to read how those in attendance "needed the release." Well, and so did the rest of the country. It was really nice to not hear the griping about how much more was needed, at least for a few days. I read that 80% of New Orleans is not back up and running, but 2/3 of the federal relief funding is already gone. I also got to hear the official declaration that Tuesday, all work and productivity was prohibitied and revelry would reign. Well, wouldn't it be nice for those of us who are funding this "right to revel" to the tune of $3 billion in our hard earned tax dollars to at least have gotten to keep all of our wages for that same day. Let everyone enjoy Fat Tuesday in their own way. Those that went to work, keep all they made that day, and those that want to revel, fund it yourself! But, somehow the real meaning of what Fat Tuesday is supposed to be about, seemed to be even more lost than usual. It is supposed to be leading up to the observance of Lent. So, now that the party is over, and the attendees have "given up" something they don't like or want anyway; you know, there are people who live through horrendous disasters, all alone, and don't get any funding, national support or anything else. They just have to keep on trudging and survive to the best of their ability. There are people who do not have thousands of others that can relate to their tragedy, nor have millions of people sending them help. We sent a financial gift toward hurricane aid in Biloxi, and we got a precious letter of appreciation, not a demand for more! or a question of what took us so long? Now, I am not Catholic, nor do I reside in the Big Easy, but I do have a couple of thoughts on this topic. Why couldn't the town have given up Mardi Gras for Lent? And since they didn't, could they at least give up whining for Lent?
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Have You Heard the Good News?

Well, it is official, I have read it, even on the fair and balanced news page. Our President said, "People don't need to worry about security." Will Congress consider this latest revelation from the White House, as they address and assess the Patriot Act? For 5 years, now; we have been told to fear everything that may have once been associated with any of the 9/11 terrorists and now we have nothing to worry about.?! You know, as all the republicans have told us, President Clinton could have done something about Bin Laden when he was president, because they knew where he was or of his association. That's right, according to what I read on FOXNews, he had ties with the UAE. And just for the record, there is no record of any of the 19 terrorists of 9/11 with a passport from Iraq, we cannot however; say the same about the UAE. I hope the same people aren't investigating the port deal, that were sure of the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. And while we are discussing the "informed" members of our society, I also read Rush L. and he was bantoring about; now the democrats have admitted we have an enemy. I remember John Kerry discussing that very fact in 2004 and he said, under no conditions would he outsource our security. This of course brings me to the next insufferable commentary I have endured. As the Bush followers continue to question this "political capital" spending extravaganza, they mutter their mantra, "it would have been so much worse." And to that, my response is a quote from my Grandma "WHATEVER!" I shouldn't be sarcastic, these people are truly to be pittied. They actually believe they know what is best, made the best decision in the election, and now will continue to follow blindly, yet with their best attempt at unquestioning loyalty. I am just waiting for the true Good News. I actually believe that some day, we will live under a ruler that doesn't incite fear, and truly does have our best interest at heart. I long and pray for the return of Messiah, for then we will have peace. Peace is not won in battle, it is a gift from G~d.
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Why is CONFUSION the Direction of Choice?

Please don't get me wrong here. If I had owned a computer and knew what a blog was, through the Clinton years, I'd have been typing like crazy then, too. But I didn't, so now that I do own a computer and do know what a blog is, I am going to utilize my free speech to at least ask a few questions. Is anybody in power listening to their constituents or to the words coming out of their own mouths? I have a real problem "outsourcing" some of our ports, well any of our ports, and especially to a nation that we do know has been linked with at least one of the very terrorists that was involved in 9/11. I've always known it was odd that we had to attack Iraq and somehow over half of the population swallowed that rationale, hook, line, and sinker, all the while considering themselves to be among the intellectually astute or at least the informed elite. Now that our President has absolute power and unquestioned authority, why have we accepted so many new meanings to words and concepts? Why do we call ourselves an ally to one nation, while funding their enemy? Why did we attack a country for possible weapons and terrorist ties, when we know the home country or at least the national passports held by most of the 9/11 terrorists? Why have so many soldiers died in Iraq after the MISSION was accomplished? Why did our President recommend to PM Sharon to negotiate with terrorists, when America has stated we refuse to do so? Why does America allow an ally to be subject to the attacks and whims of terrorists, while our leader says we are hunting down terrorists all over the globe? Why are we negotiating with Hamas? Why did we refuse to accept the UN decision to wait, concerning Iraq? How does Iraq not compare to Viet Nam when it continues to quagmire and already proposed through 2009? Why are we doing what we are? Why does this make sense only, to our leader's loyal subjects? Why are we allowing our national ports to be manned and operated by a country with known terrorist ties?
Why is confusion so acceptable?
For G~d is not the author of confusion . . .

Drugs Bridge the Generation Gap

Upon seeing a news heading with the words President's Drug Program, I immediately thought of President Reagan's "would-be" solution for the anti-establishment drug culture that existed when he became president. Now, we all knew that the government really couldn't afford to win the war on drugs for so many reasons, but all these years later, we see an all new definition for "drug program." The same generation is once again being catered to, and I guess it will continue to be, until the baby boomers can simply give no more under the control of the previous generation. While the boomers were experimenting with drugs, the previous generation was the establishment that was amassing all the stuff. Now, that they have all the stuff, and the money to influence, they want drugs, too. And there is a president in power that is willing to give them all they want, and the baby boomers and the boomer's babies will provide it. I've always been fascinated by the previous generation. They deserved respect, they deserved the good jobs and good incomes, and they deserved their material possessions, all because they said so. And, they also told us how much they gave us that we really didn't deserve, or work for, or earn. I've met few individuals from the generation ahead of the boomers that didn't start working the day after they got out of diapers, or walked uphill both ways every place they went. All, I learned in watching this generation push us around and treat everyone like idiots, was that was what grown-ups did; but I was wrong. After I grew up, they still treated our generation that way, and all the stuff was still theirs, and we just weren't taking responsibility like they did. Ok, we did, and sadly many boomers sold out to the establishment that is on a collision course headed for disaster. But some of us didn't sell out, or ever believe money, to be more important than people. I have a real problem with so many aging Americans that truly feel it is their entitlement to keep all their stuff and all their money and get a check every month that is funded by their children and grandchildren. But, in order to not have to listen to 'what a disaster' the younger generation brought upon our nation, I say let's give the old folks their drugs. We all know what they sound like when we don't do things, their way. And let's face it, they have discovered what the boomers were experimenting with in the 60's and 70's. They want their drugs and will do just about anything to get them. Guess it just took a few years to bridge the generation gap!

Oh, It's Classic, Alright!

I think most Americans awoke to the same news I did, Monday morning. Vice-President Cheney had accidentally shot a hunting companion. And I am sorry for the gentleman and pray he is not in pain. Now the man was in good condition in a Corpus Christi hospital, and oh by the way, it happened the day before yesterday. Then Tuesday morning, I read the gentleman had suffered an asymptomatic heart attack due to the bird shot being lodged in his heart, but not in an unsafe place, and the shot is round, so it cannot do any piercing damage. I also discovered that Mr. Cheney was not answering questions and had determined the night of the accident, the steps that all involved should take in revealing this unfortunate situation to the American public. And oh by the way, he sent the $7.00 check Monday, for a bird stamp to hunt in Texas, and the victim of the accident received the same warning, Mr. Cheney did about out of state hunting requirements. So, we can certainly see there is no favortism. Now, Wednesday morning, I understand that Mr. Cheney doesn't want to discuss it, but is going to speak with someone. The radio newscaster gave interesting insight to this situation, first quoting someone that stated this is simply "Classic Cheney," and his next comment was to the effect that Cheney prefers to be private and low profile. Okay, that's it! I've been quiet as long as I can.
If a person wants to be private and low profile, stay out of American politics! (duh!) I rarely use that expression, but it's the only one that fits here. And as far as "classic Cheney," no his behavior is "classic humanity." It isn't really fair to individaully assign that behavior and call it "Cheney." All humans want to react in the way that Mr. Cheney has been able to. What a privileged position to have authority without accountability. Oh yes, that is truly "classic humanity." We have all heard and probably most of us have said after being confronted about something we did that was wrong or bad or dumb. "Does the whole world have to know?" Well according to the Patriot Act, and the National Surveillance Agency, that answer would be yes; to the mere tax paying drones. Classic Human behavior and attitute are, in fact the same as; "Classic Cheney." It just isn't fair to single him out with that title. Although, there are few human beings that know that they will be found innocent of any wrong doing before the investigation, everyone would like to. And there are few human beings that know how to bring a crisis they have caused under control so quickly; but that would be our preference. The reality is, there are few human beings that want their worst moments broadcasted. There are few human beings that want all eyes on them, for a really bad move. And I truly believe every human being would like to "call their own shots" (pardon the pun) and create their own "spin" when it comes to answerability. But most of us just don't get away with behavior that is "Classic Humanity," nor have the luxury of what it is to be "Classic Cheney."

Politicians Say the "Darnedest" Things

Years ago, when the baby boomers were kids, Art Linkletter had a show in which he interviewed children, and the catch phrase was always, "Kids Say the Darnedest Things." Now, that the kids in that age group are the ones giving interviews and speeches, I just correlate the two. The latest one that has really been an outstanding concept is the one that has been stated by President Bush and former President Clinton, the first of the baby boomers. Actually, the two of them sound similar a great deal of the time, but this latest is just priceless. As soon as Hamas was elected, of course to the shock of our President(?), politicians all over our country began spouting. And former politicians have now joined in, to this firm stand and observation. The collective concensus being, "elections are not all there is to democracy." What do American politicians know about running a democracy, anyway? The republicans told me a few years ago, "America is a republic and there is quite a difference." So, perhaps that is why it has been so difficult to inspire the rest of the world to organize a democracy properly. Have you noticed all the politicians are now saying it is time for Hamas to change their policies? Is that the part of democracy we forgot to teach the rest of the world? You know, the part about a campaign platform has nothing to do with actual policy after the election . . . It's called Campaign Promises 101 and is very basic to our political process, here in America. Apparently, elected officials in other countries plan to take their campaign promises and party platforms right on into the office with them after the elections. I'm guessing now that Hamas actually has attained the power of the people, this organization isn't going to be listening to American politicians any more than they were before the election. And what about the elections in Afganistan? What did their form of democracy produce? Have we even heard?
It's very clear, our last four elections have produced leaders that proudly proclaim a change of platform promises is in order right after the election.

Democracy - The Majority Has Spoken

As the alarm came on this morning and I heard the Palestinian election results, I was aghast. When I heard what our president said about the election results, I was mortified and ashamed. Now, I know, from reading the news that our President doesn't like to be disagreed with publicly, but I'm not on his Christmas card list, so I'll just speak my mind in a blog, while we still have free speech. Just a few months ago, our president assured the entire world that Palestinian mothers didn't want terrorists leading their children, that the Palestinian people wanted peaceful leaders. All the while, the polls and interviews were telling us, the Palestinians really were not interested in a peaceful 2 state co-existence with Israel. Now, I am not saying our leader was misleading us, after all, he penned the Roadmap to Peace. I personally have a letter on White House stationery, outlining the plan. And any and all of his followers will just tell you "what is what" and "that's that." So, I am not going to waste the blog space to debate with Bush followers, not that I expect very many at this site. My first concern is the fact that the leader of the United States of America authored the Roadmap to Peace, which is in absolutely direct opposition to the Word of G~d, spoken to Abraham, recorded by Moses, and retained historically in the very Book, our leaders lay their hands upon while taking their oath of office. My second concern is the fact that I am legally bound to render unto Caesar my taxes in a couple of months, and they help fund this plan and many more. I wonder if all of my tax dollars only go to ludicrous ideas. Doesn't Washington D. C. know that some of us realize we are going to give an account to G~d for what we're doing and supporting? That same Book with the real estate contract between G~d and Abraham also contains information about what we are to support and what we are to have nothing to do with. Now on to my third concern. Our President now claims utter shock at the results of the Palestinian elections, which brings reality just too close to home. Don't you wonder how many other decisions have had surprising results for him? Or the flip side to that worn out song . . . is he really surprised at all? My next concern is regarding his response to Hamas at the helm, which was basically to say, [we're through playing now.] Which sends the message to the rest of the world, Israel included; [wow, Israel, your neighbors aren't interested in being neighborly.] Aren't you glad nobody suggested democracy for the Taliban and Bin Laden. It really makes me wonder how many decisions are being made for my "best interests," my "safety and security," and my children and grandchildren so some blue blood politician can feel powerful . No, I don't wonder that, Revelation 13 explains that one. And I am not suggesting that the current President of the United States is the anti-Christ. My last concern has really made me sick since yesterday afternoon as I was trying to find the news concerning the Palestinian elections and the State of Israel and her leader. Yesterday we watched a democratic election, place some very scary people in power. Now, Palestine is the only place on the globe that this has occurred, right?

Aren't We Getting A Little Close to Playing God?

I am not an advocate of the death penalty. And I am seriously outnumbered in religious circles, but I believe that it is G~d that vindicates. Scripture is very clear about the criteria for capital punishment, and frankly America doesn't meet the qualifications for a nation to utilize that option, according to the Bible. But this particular case really just boggles my mind. I have done a bit of checking to determine the actual cost of an American execution, but to be honest, I find the subject absolutely revolting. We have read the statistics for the cost per year, of maintaining prisoners on death row. And we are all painfully aware of the rising cost of medical treatment, particularly with the elderly. Which brings me to the topic of the blog.
A 76 year old man was executed in California, just moments after his birthday, which I also find beyond odd. He was on death row for 23 years and his last meal could have birthday cake for dessert. Now, he was found guilty of a horrible crime, more than one actually, and this country has capital punishment, so the fact that much of the 23 years was due to appeals was his choice and our money . . . another issue in capital punishment with which I have a problem. The day of finality did seem a bit odd in the puzzle, hoever. And the reason that he petitioned the court, was that basically he was too old for capital punishment. . . too old to die??? His health was in a very deteriorated state, he was blind, deaf, in a wheel chair, and diabetic, and not to sound discompassionate, but once again on the taxpayers bill. The best way to perhaps sum all of this up, would be what a waste. What a waste of a human life to spend so many years on death row. What a waste of a young life that he took. What a waste of three more lives to keep them from testifying. What a waste of countless taxpayer's dollars to appeal and appeal and appeal. But when I read that he had suffered cardiac arrest last September, and was resuscitated, I could not believe what I read. Some doctor actually resuscitated a man that was in health that poor and on death row. Why? And how does that not fit the criteria of cruel and inhumane. To refuse to let a feeble old man die, so that he could be executed 4 months later? I call that cruel and inhumane on every level, and absolutely irresponsible in every aspect of law, government, and the system. Was it someone on a power trip or just no sense at all; or as is so often the case: both?
What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should prolong my life? Job 6:11

Now, Look What'cha Made Me Do !!!!!

How did we become a nation of reactionaries? That is not to say revolutionaries, which; by the way, would now be called traitors; just as they were around 1776. When life starts getting a little "crazy," I have noticed it seems to snowball, and when it does, I get my thesaurus. We have truly become a people of reaction. Who is taking action? Have you noticed, whoever is reacting is just "having to be ugly" because: whoever or whatever did whatever, whenever to "make them do what they have to do." In other words, we have an excuse to be ugly, abusive, mean, arrogant, aggressive, or whatever we deem "excusable" by accusing someone else. We are now in a war that has gone on for almost three years; that is two years, ten months, and a few days past the 40 days Mission Accomplished speech. And all because someone else made us "be aggressive???" And this is really sad, in that we reacted in aggression toward someone that did not actually "make us do this."
We are Americans, we do not have to be accountable for our actions, because we are only reacting. Someone else made us do what we are doing that cannot be maintained or contained. And so, like disgruntled first graders, we cry, " they made me do it!" or the ever popular "look what'cha made me do, now!" I was on a "thesaurus trail" when I landed on the word "ultraconservative" which said to see: reactionary. Now, I am not writing this stuff, I am merely passing on the information I have found. We didn't become a nation of reactionaries by elections. We became a nation of reactionaries by the "spirit of fear," which perhaps was welcomed by certain election results. Scripture tells us we are not given to a spirit of fear; but of power, love, and of a sound mind. We have somehow interpretted that to be lived out as: "We are not given to a spirit of reason; but of aggression, accusation, and paranoia."
How is it that we live in a country that claims we as individauls are to "turn the other cheek" while we as a nation, declare war? How is it that we can insist upon the Ten Commandments being upon the walls of the courthouse, yet nowhere to be seen on the walls of the church? How is it that we have stone throwing piety; that does not believe in abortion, but a child's life can be a "living hell?" How did we become a nation that acts against what we do not believe in? What happened to standing and seeing the salvation of the Lord? What happened to "when you have done all you know, stand?" What happened to judge not, lest you be judged? Because the next verse is pretty clear about the results . . .
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Well, One War is Over for a Time

Here it is, the second of January 2006. I am getting ready to put away the Hanukkah menorahs. I'm sure Christmas trees are coming down, all the holiday hubbub is calming down and the retailers have inventoried and life is moving on. I was truly troubled by the fact that we in America were actually choosing to find it noteworthy and a point of contention to "fight" over Happy or Merry or Apathy! Some of the complaints and arguments I read about, would make Ebenezer Scrooge sound congenial. First, to all those that do choose to celebrate Christmas. There are Christian denominations that do not celebrate, so it really isn't an evangelical issue, even though many tried to make it one. And to those of us who do not celebrate Christmas. . . Why would we take other people's celebrations as a personal affront? I know, I personally don't care how much someone wants to spend, either economically or emotionally on their festivities, as long as I do not have to fund the endeavor. I say, live and let live, but I really don't think the little babe in a manger arrived December 25. And, I have done some serious soul searching myself, regarding the Feast of Dedication [Hanukkah.] Interestingly, it is recognized as a Jewish holiday, but mentioned Scripturally, only in John's gospel. There is so very little that is spoken of, as far as how we should actally celebrate, even in the books of the Maccabees. So, we once again consider the cultural traditions that are handed down and appreciated, regardless of the holiday we choose to celebrate. Now, to those that do not have religious affiliation at all. Did the festivities really bother you? I didn't think so. Oh, I know, somebody always has to throw a fit about a nativity scene on some government property. Why? It's not like the individual having the "hissy" has to clean up behind the sheep and donkey! How has a country that "prides" itself in tolerance and diversity become so nasty about celebrations? Is there any religion or culture in America, that openly claims to not want peace?
And so, as the retailers live with another let down in holiday spending, and the rest of us are recovering from high stress and weight gain, I'd like to share something. Since none of these festivals and the methods of celebration are actually "etched in stone" what is the big hullabaloo?
Although I do not believe the Messiah was born on December 25, I just love what was said by the angels to the shepherds, on the night of His arrival. It really would be a good thing to say every day.
Glory to G~d in the highest and on earth, peace and good will to men.

Altering the Weather Doesn't Require Costly Research

I really do try to just go on about life and refrain from noticing everything with a "different perspective." My mom always told me, I just tried to be weird. For some time now, the subject of weather has bothered me. I read a very insightful article today about the possibility of altering the weather and the funding for the research, which gave the same reasons for concern that I have had. We ran out of letters for hurricane names, California was burning for half of the summer and now is flooding. The midwest has been in a drought since Y2K, and flooded in '93. There were floods in New England, and more snow than they could shovel in the Ohio valley and the Rockies. And tornadoes have just appeared in all sorts of strange places at very strange times. Texas and Oklahoma are truly in crisis and the aftermath of Katrina continues, not to mention Rita and Wilma. The midwest had a horrible harvest of grains this year, but the soybean rust didn't arrive, so those that stockpiled the antidote are all that are hurt there . . .We do need help and we do need to alter something. As I heard some reporter today make mention of "thanking the wind" for the fires calming in Oklahoma and Texas, it was then confirmed, clearly. We have literally chosen to take G~d out of the equation where weather is concerned. The next thing I heard was a comment asking the meteorologist to "look into his crystal ball" for the 5 day weather prediction??? How many years have we just accepted in the American culture and comments about "mother nature?" We have personified storms by giving them names and then attempted to depersonalize the Creator by referring to "nature." Oh, and now we are considering funding research to alter weather??? We've done such a 'whiz-bang job' of everything else on earth, we have the audacity to presume that we can help G~d out of this weather tempest?
I've done a little research on my own and discovered something without the aid of grants or federal funding and at absolutely no increase to the deficit, here are my results: Repentance is much cheaper and more effective than Research. Now I realize, many may attempt to find a point of disagreement, but with that disagreement, I would ask: So, what is your better idea?

The Artful Adjectives

I am referring to the adjectives that I think are probably copyrighted "fair and balanced" by one of the "news" providers in our nation, otherwise known as media. I make a point of reading "both sides" of the news every day, but what I am realizing is that the conservatives truly seem to have choreographed the scene that establishes their own role as victims. That, however; is a blog for another day. What I would like to make note of today is the "alarming and unnerving" headlines that are presented under the auspice of fair and balanced. I, of course, have been trying to stay current on the updates of Israel, including PM Sharon's health. When the alarm came on this morning I heard that he would be undergoing a cardiac catheterization in a couple of weeks. Then I checked the "other" news source, the one that supposedly provides a liberal slant, according to the "fair and balanced" media competitor. Their report was also that PM Sharon would be hospitalized in a couple of weeks for a cardiac cath that would correct something that he had apparently lived with his entire life, but was discovered during his recent hospitalization. Now, as I always do, I went from there to the "fair and balanced" to read in the headline pertaining to PM Sharon "Heart Surgery." I immediately thought what the conservatives promote. "The other side didn't give the accurate information." But, as I clicked on to read, I discovered the exact same information that I had heard all day. It was simply placed under a less than calming headline. And this caused me to wonder, since I hear several "fair and balanced" followers that do not listen to any other source of news, because of the so-called bias. This was not the first time, the implication and innuendo seemed more alarming than other sources, and even more alarming than the information contained in the article. Are these people hearing "fair and balanced" and then being delivered adrenaline pumping headlines to keep them stirred up? Is "fair and balanced" soon to be associated and defined by apprehension and alarm?

Is That What We Financed?

This is a question that my husband posed to me regarding a situation in which our hearts and checkbook seemed a little bigger than our brains at the time. We had it on "good authority" that we were doing a good thing that would accomplish much. As the story and explanations continue to unfold, or shall I say unravel, my husband remains consistent with his comment . . . "Is that what we financed?" And being the business-minded woman that I am, I now find myself much more sensitive to the outcome of investment and much more leary of the marketing experts and propaganda promoters, regarding charity and "good causes." So, now I find myself double checking the funding and asking, "We're not financing this, are we?" I am all about being generous and helpful, but I am becoming exhausted with funding things that I do not find to be worthy causes or providing financing for things I would not spend the money for, much less find detrimental. Charity is supposed to provide for needs, not greed and certainly not mayhem.
After President Bush promised funding to the Palestinians, America also sent Dr. Rice to confirm the promise of funding the Palestinians. Once I read this promise was supposed to be based upon their control of attacks on Israel, then I read later, they would get the money anyway. Now, I read where the Palestinian leader, M Abbas, has organized some sort of "suicide bomber pension." Obviously the "successful" suicide bomber will not collect, but his family will. Now, if American funds are being sent to Palestine, "We're not financing this, are we?"
Then there was the tragedy of Katrina and Mayor Nagin announcing the layoff of half of the city workers, due to a lack of funding, send money!!! I read and saw the picture of Mayor Nagin in the White House receiving the promise of $3.1 billion. But before lights are on in the entire town, the announcement . . . Mardi Gras 2006 is a GO and there will be plenty of police, etc., blah, blah, blah. "We're not financing this, are we?"
I even heard on the radio this week, although I have not seen in writing anything to substantiate the report, that to lift spirits in New Orleans, they manufactured "snow?" I live considerably north of New Orleans, and the children in our town haven't seen any snow yet, this winter. "We didn't finance that, did we?"
Wouldn't it be nice to hear some reports of charity and generosity, and know, "I'm so glad we contributed to that!"

All This Protection is Scaring Me!

I have purposely remained quiet after the shooting incident in Miami last week, looking for more information or evidence, but it is scarce. My sincere condolences to his widow and family. I have not read about one single passenger that was frightened by this "alleged" situation, before someone lay bloody and they were told at gunpoint to cooperate . Nor have I read that any of the witnesses heard this passenger use the word "bomb." I have yet to read how this air marshall that was sitting several rows away from this man became aware of his "alleged" potential to be uncooperative. And of course we know that air marshalls are undercover, so when they take "authority" they must just look like anybody else waving a gun and shouting. I wonder if they look "erratic" to passengers that don't have supersonic hearing and know what's going on. With all this talk of terror in the air for the past few years, I don't think I would assume that a guy waving a gun and shouting, would necessarily be a "good guy." With all the anti-terrorists talk and the endless meetings these air marshalls must attend, I'm sure they are ready to respond in a split second, but that appears to now be translated "shoot first and ask questions later." I think what bothers me more than an "allegedly erratic" passenger or a "potentially jumpy" air marshall is the American response to this tragedy. And it is a tragedy. An unarmed man that was just trying to get home was taken out, in the prime of life. Now, granted, he was only one person, as opposed to the three thousand on 9/11, but he was still unarmed and unsuspecting.
Is there any data or any statistics as to the number of "sucide bombers" that make the announcement before they detonate? Where are the logical questions in this situation? Our authorities say the air marshall acted appropriately, so that's that. They do say there will be an investigation, but who does the investigating? And no investigation is going to bring an innocent man back to life. This situation really got me thinking. My husband and I have done a bit of traveling. Since 9/11, we've been to our nation's capital and even done some international travel, and I felt no more afraid or safe than when I had traveled before 9/11, significantly more inconvenienced and dehumanized, however; but that was by American airport security. And I know, there really are droves of paranoid Americans that get fed this fear propaganda that feel safer because of all this, but . . . I find those individuals less than reassuring.
What I do know, as an American, with a few stamps in my passport both before and after 9/11; after 12/7, I don't think I want to do any more air travel.
There's an old saying something to the effect: "Dead men tell no tales." They can't tell the truth either.

A Tree by Any Other Name

I must admit, I never thought I would be posting an agreement with Dennis Hastert, but here I am doing just that. Let me qualify the rest of this blog with this statement. I do not agree with Dennis Hastert's politics, but I applaud his reference to the Christmas Tree. I have no earthly idea why our President referred to the tree at the White House as a "Holiday Tree." I can't speak for all the other religions, but I have done a few Google searches and I discovered . . .Many other religious and non religious observers do not have a tree in their holiday events. As a matter of fact, "traditional" Christianity seems to be the only one, although I think the tree huggers may include some sort of tree ritual in their beliefs, I don't think they are "big" on the idea of cutting them down. I was very cautious in using the term tree hugger until I found some very proud believers in their cause referring to themselves as such. I had thought until now, only John Hagee and Rush Limbaugh used the term, so if I have offended an ecologist, please forgive me. Now, back to this Christmas tree business. As a Bible literalist, I don't have a holiday tree. I do celebrate the Feast of Dedication (Chanukah), but there's no tree for the event. I know for a fact, there is no Chanukah tree, and I couldn't find a Bahai tree, nor a Hindu tree. I don't know what the Buddhists do this time of year, nor do I know what the Muslims festively celebrate, but I couldn't find a tree for their events, either . . . so what exactly is a Holiday Tree? If there are only two belief systems that acknowledge the use of trees in their beliefs, how does changing the terminology include the rest of us? If it's a Christmas tree that is being lit or decorated, or whatever, then call it that. If it is a tribute to ecology that is not being cut down, then call it that, but making it generic only appears to dim the value and importance to the one that changes the name. It certainly doesn't invite inclusion into the event. Dennis Hastert, good for you! You called it what it is! It's nice to see a politician stand up for his values and beliefs and since this is America, I don't have to agree with your politics to applaud!

Enough Whining and Sniveling

I am exhausted with the lame excuses, blame game, and whining of the present party of power. Get a grip! The present party of power has the majority in the House, the majority in the Senate, absolute control of the White House, and seven out of nine Supreme Court justices were appointed by the present party of power. And yet there continues to be "hand-wringing," complaints about the democrats, and accusations of conspiracy against their well-meaning goodness for our country and a good portion of the rest of the world. Every day is something new to mourn. I am sick to death of hearing about what Ted Kennedy is causing these "moral highroaders" as their followers refer to them. Don't tell me Ted Kennedy is ruining this entire country from one Senate seat in Massachusetts. I can't believe any intelligent thinking person would believe half the propaganda put out by the media mongers of this group that portray themselves to be constitutional patriots. How did the antics of rude third graders get to be politically revered and applauded in this country? Perhaps the rude precocious third grade bullies have simply grown up and still have the brazen pushiness to maintain the control. Or maybe a few boys of the American blue-bloods grew up with those silver spoons and all the backing their fathers and grandfathers could provide. I truly do not begrudge them their power. We know from history, the true price of power is the human soul, so I am not interested in competing, but what I would really like; is for them to enjoy their power without this continual whining for more. They have it all and are still unhappy. For all practical purposes, we have become a one party nation, what more is there? If there is complaining to be done, it certainly should not be from the powers that be. As a matter of fact, if the powers that be are doing a good job and taking the "moral high road," how can there be room for complaints, much less by the very people calling the shots? If there are still things to whine about after 5 years of absolute authority and power, it is time for the leaders, to pick up a mirror and take a good long look.
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked rule, the people mourn.

Statistically Speaking . . .

I have been attempting to respectfully listen to this fear propaganda regarding the bird flu. And I am trying to do it without a skeptical flippant response, but really now!
My heart and prayers go out and I mean no disrespect to the individuals and families of those that have died of this malady, but the fear and propaganda is what I am addressing.
There have been less than 200 cases diagnosed on two continents in nearly a year's time. Statistics show more people die in one week, every week; due to medication errors in American hospitals and no one is afraid of that epidemic.
And let us not forget, these powers that are proponents of fear factors have yet to see one case of this influenza that has actually been trasmitted from person to person. Unlike medication errors, which literally go from person to person. This is an epidemic that concerns me, greatly.
Let me share the statistics I have been able to locate on the web and since I found it on the internet, we know it to be factual. (sarcasm)
There have been 127 reported cases of bird flu worldwide from December 2004 to November 2005, not all resulting in death. On the other hand, there were estimated between 44,000 and 98,000 deaths due to medication errors. There have been no reports of this influenza virus being passed from human contact. Of course, we know all the reports of medication errors were a result of human contact.
We are told in the book of the Revelation; of plagues and deaths caused by animals, so is it possible that this avian flu could become a global pandemic. Absolutely!
Will fear prevent a global pandemic? Fear only prevents three things: confidence, love, and logic.

Now, what was that Quote, Again?

I remember when our President said something to the effect of: If you're not with us, you're against us. This was shortly after 9/11 and appeared to be a cry to the allies, but it has really served to divide the political parties, in the post 9/11 America. When I first heard him say this, I thought he's using Scripture to rally for war? Surely not! And maybe our President was not inferring to a Scriptural reference like he did on the USS Abraham Lincoln in the famous MISSION ACCOMPLISHED speech. (another blog, another day)
But back to this quote . . . Has anyone else noticed the number of weather related problems that America has faced in the last three or four years? How many hurricanes? This year, we ran out of letters to start the names. And tornadoes in very unusual parts of the country at very unusual times of year. And the floods in the New England area? And the drought in the midwest? As soon as we had it all figured out about making ethanol out of corn to counter the high crude prices, we had a corn blight.
Since I do know Who controls the weather and the seasons, I have really wondered if G~d Himself isn't showing us where He stands regarding that quote. Would there be so much devastation from weather and storms if G~d was for us? Wouldn't it at least be worth considering?

Eminent Domain was Imminent

Ah, it's been awhile since I blogged. The cares of the world have been a burden, to say the least. Two Supreme Court positions open and nominations, appointments, wars, approval ratings, hurricanes, FEMA, and what happened to Social Security reform? The list is endless, now isn't it . . .
I personally thought the nomination of Harriet Miers was bold and strategic. It let our "fearless" leader know just how blindly loyal his followers are. I thought it was a pretty good way to see just how much "political capital" he could spend. Turns out, like with so many guys that are buying a "round for the house," he seemed to "be a little short" when it came time to pay the tab. But really, that's a blog for another day. I want to talk about Judge Souter. I guess one can do that without fear, here in the land of the "free."
How is it that Judge Souter is being "judged" to have changed from the conservative vote? This issue of eminent domain just proves he is doing exactly what was expected by the man that appointed him. Does it get anymore republican than to take from the poor and middle class and give to the rich? The so called "conservatives" may say they are up in arms about this man's vote, but really he is representing those that put him in his position. After all, he was nominated by the president that introduced the concept of the "new world order," like that was a good idea. G~d's Word is pretty clear about this world order business and "who" is behind that!
So, the way I see it, Eminent Domain has been IMMINENT since the first Bush administration, but then so has war in the middle east and crazy gas prices and . . . What is this, a family tradition? Is this simply a case of politics being the family business? Has Judge Souter really changed his stand and views or has he done exactly what was expected from his party and appointment?
insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Republican Nomination

I know I am not blogging with regularity right now, and with good reason. Don't we hear a lot of that. . . Someone isn't doing what's expected, but it's okay because they have a good reason, at least by their own standard.
Now, back to the republican nomination. We are hearing about Supreme Court nominations, looks like House Majority position will be taking on new leadership, and there is a temporary head of FEMA right now because between September 2 and September 10th or 11th. "Brownie" wasn't doing such a great job, after all! So now, he has been rehired as a consultant for FEMA, which really sounds like a better job, anyway. Independent contractor that only has to trouble shoot everyone else's job performance. But all of this is republicans nominating other republicans or appointing other co-party people to high ranking positions of authority. I am speaking of a different type of republican nomination.
I think William J. Clinton should be nominated for Republican of the Year!
I mean, after all, his presidency did more to rally republicans than anything in recent history. His presidency actually caused many to no longer call themselves democrats. If we compare the results of the 1960 presidential election to the 2000 presidential election; Mr. William J. Clinton did more for the republican party than General Dwight D. Eisenhower. And just where would Rush Limbaugh be now, were in not for William J. Clinton?
And all this work with former President Bush. We know that former President Carter has been doing charity work and helping the homeless for years. Why didn't Mr. Clinton align himself with Mr. Carter at this time of helping those that lost all in the hurricanes? What better time to help and what better cause than habitat for humanity, at a time of people needing shelter and literally finding themselves homeless in an instant.
And apparently this "bi-partisan" association is expected to continue, as I have read there is a not for profit corporation in the works that will contain the names of both men. So, do the republicans need Bill Clinton's charisma to raise money or has Bill Clinton seen the power and prestige contained within the republican party or will we see a coming together of the parties as the American population becomes more needy and dependant?
Let there be no turning to the right or to the left, keep your feet from evil.

I was invited to read this in the Convention Center in Washington D.C. three years ago. I just felt myself pondering the progress or process of our nation and the globe since, and decided to share it.


If My people which are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven forgive their sins and heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14

Having read this Scripture and knowing The Word to be true, I now find myself asking . . . If . . .

If we are His people . . . why do we have to make laws other than His?
If we are called by His Name . . . why is it politically incorrect to mention the Name of His Son?
If we are to humble ourselves . . . why, when we need Him so desperately; do we use red, white, and blue to print the word PRIDE?
Why spend time debating proper salutations and closings for prayers?
If the G~d of the Bible offers this proposal then why not just pray to Him per His instruction?
What's this "seek His face" . . . How is that even done: fasting or something?
If He would just bless our plans, we could certainly save time and move right along in our
purpose . . .
Turning from our wicked ways . . . G~d's definition of wicked is so different from ours -
"This is America, our laws are Bible based; so our founding fathers 'tweaked' and
'fine tuned' just a bit . . ."
Besides, we're living in the age of grace. When the penalty was paid at Calvary . . .

Most of us pray in troubled times, G~d is everywhere and so He hears

So now that we've "got" sin redefined, what is there to forgive?

Now What?

As I listened to the local radio announcer yesterday morning, going through his list of current events and political things for callers to rant about, he chose to address, not the high gasoline prices, but rather the lack of complaining about the high gasoline prices. That seemed simple enough before the two hours of calls that ensued. The American people realize we have no say, there is nothing we can do about what is going on, and complaining only gets new legislation . . . so we just shut up and take it. It did make me start asking some questions, though and one of them is of course, "Why are so many oil wells capped here in the US? Why are the oil men satisfied to make no money off of their oil when it is a record high, over $60.00 a barrel?" I thought those oil men liked to make money, but maybe I just watched too much "Dallas." Now then, we move on to our newest solution. We have ethanol. We are going to turn our food and food for our livestock, namely corn, into fuel. Well, that raises some interesting questions, also, but we may never get to that point anyway. Much of the midwest, where most of our corn comes from, is enduring a drought and the corn crop is failing horribly. `So, now what's the next plan?
And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

Do As I Say, Not As I Do . . .

Well, it is happening. The President of the United States has told Israel how to deal with terrorists. And amazingly, The Prime Minister of Israel has been listening long enough to this advisor, he apparently believes it is his idea and a good one, at that. It's interesting, neither leader is "negotiating" with terrorists, because "we don't negotiate with terrorists!" The United States has declared war on every terrorist organization on the globe, with the exception of the terrorist groups that have been continuously attacking Israel for the past 5+ years. Now, nobody is going to negotiate with them, either, Israel is just going to give them land and listen to their demands . . . see NO negotiation! And what I have read about President Bush's observation concerning this "land for peace" propaganda is some reference to the quiet and lack of attacks since Israel agreed to give them land. Now, I am personally glad that we didn't decide to give New York and Florida, and half of Washington D. C. to Bin Laden after 9/11, but isn't that basically, what Israel has been advised to do?
So, how is it, that we fight terrorism everywhere but Israel? How is it, we declare war on hunches and possibilities, but advise another to passively give up more and more? How is it, America gets away with this double standard in front of G~d and the whole world?

What We've Become

Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired; Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of the Lord's anger come upon you. Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger. We can now see the handiwork of the harlot of Babylon. Gaza will be abandoned at the recommendation of the US. We read in Proverbs how a harlot or adultress operates. She says one thing, all the while planning and plotting. We are watching as the US claims to have a war on terrorism and refuses to negotiate with terrorists, yet continues to advise Israel to negotiate and give more to terrorists demands. This attitude of harlotry is so out of control and obvious. While America calls Israel an ally, America is funding the very enemy of Israel. One of America’s religious denominations that has great political power as well as power in numbers, economy, and influence has actually voted to discontinue doing business with Israeli companies.
Remember the collective gasp as the Supreme Court ruled about private property just a couple of weeks ago? That is nothing more than reaping what America was founded upon and sown! Setting aside the obvious fact that the American land was settled and claimed right out from under the original occupants.
Over 30 years ago, our nation determined unborn babies could be removed from the security of the womb for convenience and it was called “choice.” The Roadmap to “peace” authored by America’s President, says the Jews that have worked and built improvements in the land G~d promised Abraham, must be removed for the “greater global good.” I saw, firsthand; property that was donated to the county for the care and custody of people with special needs, developed for the “greater economic good” and the special needs people were moved out of their home and security. With a nation that has no regard for unborn babies, G~d’s promise to Abraham recorded in Scripture, and disadvantaged individuals with special needs, what can be expected? A harlot is unconcerned with the consequences of her actions and she continues to look for ways to convince others that she means well.
The harlot of Babylon is getting quite bold. G~d’s judgment and wrath will be severe.

How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord G~d who judgeth her. And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
