A six year old boy has been suspended for bringing a "weapon" to school. This school is one of the many that has a "zero tolerance" policy. I'm so sick of the word tolerance being thrown around in all the many ways it is used for and against freedom. This little six year old is so proud of going to school and likes it so well, he often wears a suit and tie just to express his enthusiasm and respect. Now, for his big "weapons" charge. He's also proud to be in the Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts, I would say, by his age. He was so excited about that, that he brought the knife, spoon, fork, gadget to eat lunch and that's where the insanity begins. The teacher took it from him, gave it to the principal and the rest is simply ridiculous. The school officials have ruled that he must be suspended and attend 45 days in Reform school. This little boy reads above his level, his math skills are accelerated. He has never been a discipline problem in school. He's active in sports and church, and was clearly looking forward to Cub Scouts. His mom is Co-President of the PTA, his step-father is a good role model and his dad is active in his life. This just makes me cringe. How can anyone be so stupid and get a teaching certificate? And now that we see it is, in fact, possible; where do we go from here? I, for one, would not want someone that appears to lack the ability to actually think, walking my dog, much less teaching my child. And a principal that has this sort of reaction and a School Board that stands behind such outlandish decisions? Knowing this will scar the child for life, either way it goes, just what has our public school system saved the children from? The little boy was going to eat lunch with his camping tool. Big deal!
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. New Testament
