First of all, referring to debt as raising a ceiling misses the point that debt is actually digging a hole. When I was a kid we used to dig with silverware and talk about digging to China. Well, we're all grown up now and the politicians are using our grandchildren's spoons to do that very thing! I would like to include an interesting oration, I happened upon today. It is amongst the wisest of sayings to come out of Washington in this past decade.
>From Sen. Obama’s Floor Speech, March 20, 2006:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
Yes we certainly do, Mr. President . . .
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. New Testament
