If this young man had given credit to say a sports star or particular author, even a a politician, would he have then been free to speak? What if he'd had a "coming out" statement to make through his speech?
I can't help but wonder, every time I read something about a good Christian accepting the mandate of silence on behalf of their integrity. Wouldn't the apostles have survived if they had just stopped "teaching in the Name?" Rome was the government at the time, not to mention the crafters of crucifixion. What if Y'hshuwah had been so submissive? I've got a problem with religion being politically quieted and politically correct agendas being promoted!
I don't usually use the term "Jesus," I use Y'hshuwah, but it really draws the story and the Scripture together. It's as if that young man were dealing with the same group of guys the apostles dealt with . . .
And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. the book of Acts in the New Testament
